Funny guy! I would love to see a FTJFL team play South Kenton.

 

I will go ahead and say it. South Kenton would probably beat any of the teams from the FTJFL. Games would be competitive but as it's been stated numerous times over and over, the FTJFL is a "developmental" league. Check out the web site and look at rules in place to show how each and every player gets their fair share of "playing/developmental" time. I bet you would be hard pressed to find someone from the league that would say FTJFL would beat any team in the NKYFBL. If so, they are missing the mission of the league.

 

Now, when it comes to the next level of play, high school level, not even close. Sorry fella, but records speak for themselves. Before you hang your hat on that one year they won at the Frosh level, make sure you check out the overall record. Don't embarrass yourself with a bunch of non sense.

 

To this years team and question before about replacing defensive players, as in past, lots of kids graduate every year that had their own huge role. It's called a "team" for a reason and the coaches design the schemes so that all parts are moving and working together to form a great defense. A couple of the big names this year will be Seth Hope, Blake Shutte, and Quinten Murray. I bet you see a couple soph that even emerge as key cogs by years end. Can't wait till Friday. Hopefully the Birds can keep it close against Trintiy with the Shamrocks reloading from last years National Championship season. Go Birds! Blitz for Six!!!

Why is there so much angst about SK not scheduling Highlands? I don't recall anybody in our district playing Highlands at all, except of coarse Ryle. Ryle was fortunate to schedule Highlands in a year where they had arguably their best team ever. Only about once every 10 years is one of the 6A schools going to have the depth and skill players to even compete , let alone beat Highlands.

 

I think calling the sentiment angst is way, way overstating it. Really, it is humerous.

 

Evidently some Bulldog fellow got on a radio program calling out Highlands for ducking the Pioneers a few years back, so the whole "who's ducking who" conversation began there.

I bet 5 cents that Highlands has a lot of influence over the direction of FTJFL and would consider them a feeder program. My understanding from previous interaction is that NKYFL, despite receiving support from some of their host schools, consider themselves independent of them. Both the NKYFL teams and the middle school play to win and play the best players. The Boone leagues are the same way.

 

If HHS is able to influence the direction of FTJFL to keep it developmental, then that is a huge advantage. The folks running the youth leagues, in my experience , have no investment at all in the success of the High School hosts (but that does not stop them from having huge support expectations of their host school).

Sounds like FTJFL is ducking South Kenton? I am just playing I hope all the FTJFL have a great season. Far as South Kenton goes we have 2 starter teams first year players and second year players. We make sure every kid gets to play also. Now back to the thread Highlands 2012. Thank god it is football season!

Why is there always talk abt HHS playing SK? The 2 teams have not played each other in a long time. I'm pretty sure there has been no contract offer from either school, but I think HHS makes it clear that they are willing to play any team. If I remember correctly Coach Marksberry & one of the HHS coaches were room mates at Hanover or at least teammates, so I would think a possible game has been discussed at some point. So whomever "bulldog" is, he is wrong. I am sure SK will have a good team this season & both programs will survive not playing one another again this year...

A lot of time I have seen kids develop quickly and get a lot of PT, but then peek shortly thereafter and not end up being impact players in High School. I have also seen kids not even be interested in Football untill 8th grade, then excel in High School.

Because it is the rules..If it's not broke don't fix it. I think HHS and NCC do quite well when the kids are older. I do agree that you can start late in football and still do very well if you have the talent. Not the same in baseball or basketball..

You are correct. It is against the competitive nature of people. From players, coaches and parents. But the way the league is ran, very successful that I might add, is to break the kids from Ft Thomas into zones as to where they live. Then they add the surrounding communities players into the mix as evenly as possible and go from there. There are adjustments that the league makes to make sure each and every team is as even as possible. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But the teams are not all star teams, so for them to compete in the NKYFBL is not an option with they way they do it. Ukfan is just stirring it up again and really doesn't understand the process. A little over his head I guess.

 

Oh I'm pretty sure at one point, the league ventured into the NKYJFL for a few years, and were very successful at it. But those were all star teams form Ft Thomas. So yeah, whatever, it has been beaten to death, mostly because people from the outside just don't get it.

FTJFL and Highlands wants to do everything completely opposite then what teams are doing outside of Ft. Thomas.

Why does FTJFL have any interest in what is going on in South Korea...................Just sayn.............

FTJFL preps boys and builds depth by sheer numbers as they play everybody and come frosh year they have some fundamentally sound football players. They are then anxious to drop a color and go from 4 teams to one. It is not strictly a ft Thomas feeder as some boys have become tigers, blue boys, and breds. It is strictly developmental and no all star team. The only Olympic medal is a bobble head participation trophy. Sure coaches love to win but at the end of the day they know it is much more about the next level. I did not know SK south Kenton or south Korea had a team lol.

Who will be handling the kicking duties for the Birds this yr.

Seems to be always a concern at this time of yr after graduation but somebody always comes through and gets the job done.
