If I'm a campaign strategist (and I'm most certainly not), I play up the disconnect between the candidate and the masses. I don't think it's dirty pool at all to point out the fact that the candidate's family lives in the lap of luxury, particularly if I'm trying to woo the middle class.

 

I obviously disagree with the "stay-at-home-moms don't work" angle, however.

 

I honestly don't understand how Obama is suddenly Mr. Common Man. Didn't he go to one of the most expensive schools in America? Don't his girls go to a very prestigious private school in DC? When exactly has Obama held down a 9 to 5? It's also funny (and bordering on outright hypocrisy) that being rich wasn't something to be ashamed of when Kerry was running.

I will tell you what I took from it. I took that Anne Romney's experience as a wealthy stay at home mom is in no way the experience of my mother's as the wife of a blue collar worker nor of ny friend Erin's ad the wife of a Starbuck's store manager. That's all.

It's how it reads. The rich stay at home mom vs the blue collar stay at home mom. It's the message the Obama campaign is trying to send, that the Romney's are out of touch with the middle class and the lower class.
