Don't most vehicles have mirrors on each side?

 

My oldest brother's first car was an '83 Dodge Aries (much like this one) without a passenger sideview mirror.

 

After a little research I found this.

 

"A person shall not operate a motor vehicle required to be registered in the Commonwealth, upon a public highway, road, or street, on which vehicle the rear window is composed of, covered by, or treated with any material which has the effect of making the window nontransparent, unless the vehicle is equipped with side mirrors on both sides."

 

From KRS 189.110

 

I might be reading it wrong but it looks like you can't have anything on the rear window making it nontransparent unless you have mirrors on both sides.

 

h20, the statute I am thinking of may no longer be active but it specifically mentioned a 4x3 American Flag as the only item allowed on car windows.

Maybe what I posted above was added to it later, but I believe that is the same one. The American Flag part was at the very end.

 

(12) Nothing in this section shall prevent the display of a representation of the American flag on the rear window of any motor vehicle, including any vehicle owned by a local or state government, provided that the representation does not exceed a size of five (5) inches by eight (8) inches and it's placed in a lower corner of the rear window.

 

Really doesn't make sense. The other part makes it seem like you can have whatever you want in the back window, as long as you have both mirrors.

I'm not a fan of the crosses or memorials. They don't belong on public property and you wont find one on mine if I lived on a road where a death occured. I understand it helps one to grieve and it may alert others to a dangerous area though.

 

By the way, are Jewish drivers better than the rest? I've never seen a star of David at the scene of a wreck? (I forget the comedian I stole that from).

The reason both myself and H20 are foggy on this one is because its another violation that doesn't get much attention and/or enforced.

EXACTLY!!

Heard this topic come up in a conversation that involved two accredited counselors. Both of them started off by just shaking their heads. The one said, "There aren't many more overt signs that you're not properly addressing your grief". The other one agreed completely. That confirmed what I had suspected all along.

I believe there are some states that actually put up signs to mark DUI fatalities. Kind of an interesting spin on this topic.

Roadside Crosses and for that matter memorial decals in car windows seem to me that the person is trying to make up for theirr lack of love or respect for the deceased when they were alive . Too late now !!

That seems like a rather harsh view of someone that just maybe really misses a loved one.
