11th Region Week 7 Review

Recommended Posts

Another week has come and gone and just when you think you kind of got it figured out in this region, district matchups come around and shake things up. The #1 spot is a no brainer and has been all season, but spots 2-11, Im not sure anyone knows whats going to happen next! Lets get to it!

TEAM RANKINGS

1. Scott County (18-1) - The Cardinals continued their winning ways this past week going 3-0 against Madison Central, Sayre, and Ashland Blazer. The game at Madison Central was no easy task as the Cardinals trailed by as much as 17 in the second half but as all good teams do they found a way to win and pulled out a close one 73-70. The Toyota Classic begins this week in Georgetown and the host Cardinals take on Myrtle Beach Christian Academy out of South Carolina to open the tournament.

2. Henry Clay (16-4) - The Blue Devils jump up a spot to #2 this week after going 3-0 and picking up wins over Bryan Station, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Frederick Douglass. As I always seem to mention in these weekly articles, Junior Marques Warrick continues to pace the Blue Devils but big man Harris Hawkins has really started to come into his own lately and becoming a defensive force down low for Henry Clay. Only one game on the schedule for the Blue Devils this week as they host Tates Creek.

3. Frankfort (14-3) - The Panthers fall one spot to #3 this week after an early week loss to rival Franklin County by 1 point on the road. However the Panthers responded well picking up two wins over Western Hills and a HUGE neutral court victory over South Laurel on Saturday. A big week coming up for Frankfort as the 11th Region All A begins and the Panthers are the host. They open up with Frankfort Christian Academy and a date with LCA awaits the winner. The Panthers havent won the All A Region in over a decade and this year could be their best chance yet.

4. Woodford County (14-4) - The Yellow Jackets jump up to #4 this week in the rankings due to going 2-0 and because no other teams behind them can figure out who they really are. After a couple weeks of inconsistency the Yellow Jackets seem to have righted the ship some. Woodford picked up 2 big district wins over Western Hills and Franklin County this past week. Up next for Woodford County, they head to the Toyota Classic where they face off with Lafayette in the opening round.

5. Lafayette (11-7) -The Generals started the week off with a HUGE district win over rival Lexington Catholic which set them up nice to take control of the district standings but then gave all that back with a loss to Lexington Christian to end the week. The 43rd District is as wide open as Ive ever seen it but the Generals have played the best lately of all the teams so thats why they are here. This week Lafayette heads to the Toyota Classic where they face off with Woodford County in the opening round.

6. Lexington Catholic (8-11) - The Knights finish the week 1-1 with a loss to Lafayette and a win over Tates Creek. Always important to win the district seeding games in the 43rd and even with a loss to Lafayette, Lexington Catholic is still in a great position to get the 1 seed if they take care of business from here on out. This week the Knights host East Jessamine and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Another shot for a district win for Lexington Catholic.

7. Madison Central (8-9) -The Indians dropped their only game this past week in a close one to Scott County in which they led most of the game. Isaiah Cozart had a monster game pouring in 33 points and grabbing 18 rebounds! Up next the Indians head to West Jessamine before hosting Lincoln County and Hopkinsville to end the week.

8. Lexington Christian Academy (13-6) -The Eagles finished the week 2-0 with wins over Lafayette and North Hardin. With the win over North Hardin coach Nate Valentine picked up his 100th career win. Congrats to Coach Valentine. This week is a big week for LCA as the 11th Region All A tournament begins in Frankfort. The Eagles received a bye but will most likely face off with Frankfort in the semi finals in what should be a great game.

9. Tates Creek (10-5) - For the first time since December of 2014 the Commodores won a 43rd District game with their win over Paul Laurence Dunbar this past week. Unfortunately, for Tates Creek they dropped their next game to Lexington Catholic and fall to 1-4 in the district standings. The Commodores continue to show steady improvement this season. Up next they travel to Henry Clay in their only game this week.

10. Frederick Douglass (7-8) - The Broncos dropped their only game this week at home to Henry Clay. An up and down season for the Broncos continues, they really need to find some consistency if they have any chance of getting out of the district this season. This week the Broncos travel to Paul Laurence Dunbar before heading to Georgetown to take on Wayne County in the opening round of the Toyota Classic.

11. Madison Southern (11-8) -The Eagles continue to play great basketball and won 2 games this week over Model and Berea. Chad Fugate and Trent Moberly are both averaging around 15 points a game and pace the Eagles so far this season. Up next Madison Southern heads to Sayre and then host Southwestern.

12. Franklin County (9-9) - The Flyers picked up their biggest win of the season this past week beating Frankfort 77-76 then fell on the road at Woodford County. The loss at Woodford locks up FC as being in the 2/3 game in the district tournament. Up for FC this week are trips to Shelby County and Western Hills.

13. Paul Laurence Dunbar (6-10) -The Bulldogs had a rough week dropping 2 games to Tates Creek and Henry Clay. Maybe the biggest loss is that of senior guard Jared Gadd who is out for an undisclosed amount of time with some back issues. The Bulldogs really need him back to give them a chance the rest of the season. Up next PLD hosts Frederick Douglass, travels to Lexington Catholic, and then takes on Lincoln County in a neutral site game.

14. Bryan Station (3-14) - The Defenders had a nice week going 1-1 losing a close one to Henry Clay and picking up a HUGE road win over 10th region power GRC. Steady improvement for the young Defenders in the new year. Bryan Station takes a 10 day break and has no games on the schedule this week.

15. Model (10-7) -The Patriots dropped both games this week to Madison Southern and Washington County. Up this week for the Patriots is the 11th Region All A tournament where they drew a bye and will face the winner of Berea and Sayre.

16. Western Hills (4-11) - The Wolverines doubled their season win total this past week picking up 2 wins over Bluegrass United and East Jessamine but fell to Frankfort as well. Two district games this week both at home against Woodford County and Franklin County.

17. Sayre (3-13) -The Spartans continue to struggle taking 2 on the chin this past week to Scott County and Woodford County. Up next is the 11th Region All A tournament where Sayre plays Berea in the first round.

18. Berea (10-7) - The Pirates finished the week 1-1 with a win over Burgin and a loss to Madison Southern. 10 wins is nice but the level of competition is not. Up next Berea takes on Sayre in the opening round of the 11th Region All A tournament.
