In week 3 of the 6A playoffs, 8 teams become the final 4.

 

Region 1

 

Trinity hosted the Ballard bruins for a shot at the state semifinals and the regional championship. Trinity beat Ballard earlier in the year, 19-14. Many expected this one to be the same way. This game didn’t go the way of the first, as it was pretty much over from the opening kickoff. Ballard fumbled the first play, which Trinity turned into 3. Trinity got a safe a safety on the next series, then another field goal to lead 8-0. After the defense held the Shamrocks to two field goals, the wheels fell off. Trinity scored 5 touchdowns and took a 43-0 lead at halftime. Trinity was the only team to score in the second half and ended the game with a 50-0 win. Trinity held Ballard to a total of 8 yards for the game.

 

Region 2

 

Saint Xavier hosted Male for the Regional Championship. Saint Xavier won the first meeting in the regular season, 28-13. Saint Xavier received bad news before the game was even played. The back up quarterback, Douglas Bodhaine, who replaced the starter earlier in the season from injury was hurt in practice and missed the big game. Saint Xavier had to rely on freshmen Jack Sivori to quarterback the team. Male got on the board first late in the first to go up 7-0. Male added a field goal in the second after a blocked punt. Saint Xavier finally got things going and punched one in to cut the lead to 10-7 at halftime. Saint Xavier got a field goal late 3rd to tie the game at 10 all. Male would retake the lead early in the fourth, thanks to a jump ball touchdown by Junior Izayah Cummings. Male added another field goal late in the 4th to push the lead to 20-10. Saint Xavier would get no closer. Male would take a knee after an interception to seal the win.

 

Region 3

 

Madison Central hosted Conner for the Regional Championship. Madison Central jumped out to a 6-0 lead early, but Conner put up 2 scores to take the lead 14-6. Madison tied the game at 14-14 in the 3rd quarter. After no score in the forth quarter, Madison Central would get the ball first in overtime and put one in the endzone to take the lead 21-14. Conner answered the bell and tie it at 21-21 to send it to double overtime. Conner got the first shot in this one. Conner would yet again punch one in the endzone. But Conner missed the extra point, making the score 27-21. Madison Central needed a touchdown plus the extra point. Derrick Miller found Blake Muntz for the touchdown. Conner attempted to ice the kicker by calling a time out. Jordan Hatcher wouldn’t be fazed and put the kick right down the middle, giving Madison Central the win 28-27 and their first ever Regional Championship.

 

Region 4

 

Simon Kenton hosted the Scott County Cardinals for its regional championship game. Scott County jumped out early, thanks to its rushing attack and a interception for 6. Scott County also got the two point conversions on each touchdown as well, making it 16-0 early in the 1st. Simon Kenton answered with a 27 yard run of its own to cut the lead from 16-7. Scott County went right back to work and got 7 more, pushing the lead out again to 23-7. Scott added another score, going up 29-7. Simon Kenton would get another touchdown and a two point conversion to bring the lead back down to 29-15. The teams would trade scores, making the lead 36-21 Scott County at halftime. Scott County got on the board first in the 3rd, making the lead 43-21. Scott County added another to make it 49-21 before Simon Kenton would get on the board again. Scott County added the last score off the game, making it 56-28 and giving them the Regional Championship. Scott County had over 400 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns.
