  1. The National Football League will film the football game between Trinity and St. Xavier on Friday, Oct. 3, at 8 p.m. at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. NFL Films will feature the contest on the CBS network as its “game of the week” on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m., providing worldwide coverage to Louisville’s “fall classic.” In addition to game footage and commentary, ancillary school activities at school during the week of the game, practice footage and interviews with coaches and players will comprise a documentary the NFL plans to produce.
  2. Posted on the update thread was a note that said starters were pulled with 5 minutes to go in the 4th. That is incorrect – starters began to sit beginning with 6 minutes to go in the 3rd, no starters played in the 4th quarter.
  3. From my vantage point, it seems that the moment a team starts making noise about an undefeated season, they suddenly find themselves ... defeated. From Trinity's POV, the coaches must be keenly aware of this, given the success they have had. I doubt they are asking such silly questions. But nice try.
  4. I had a crazy dream where there were...no more public/private debates. Let's play football.
  5. CK of course, but also Trinity's Tim Phillips.
  6. I saw some of the LO players after the game and told them to hold their heads up. Hard to say a team is the weakest ever. 14-1 is 14-1 no matter how you slice it. Just getting there is a great accomplishment.
  7. Wish I had seen the Birds this year. Congrats. Are any seniors going to play at the next level - locally or elsewhere?
  8. Obviously, this quote was preceded by a reporter's question: "Tell me, coach, I know Trinity is the state champ for the sixth time in seven years, but who do you think is the better team?" I bet he got tricked into saying it. C'mon. Why say this...ever? It just sounds sour. And it is beneath the grit the X team showed. Props to both programs, but clearly, one team was better on this night.
  9. Be careful 02. Testing companies specifically tell schools not to use these kinds of stats to measure the performance of a school..:sssh:
  10. IMVHO, those who harbor opinions that the debate between public and private schools isn't about championships have not been paying attention to the rhetoric...or the reasons given on every level of this debate in any forum at any place, anytime. Let's be clear: it is all about championships. If there were no championships, the debate would not exist. :argue: I applaud this forum, and those who post, for getting views on the table in - for the most part - an amicable, sensible way. But it is about just winning, baby.
  11. He is bluntly making the same straightforward mistake many others seem to be making...he leaps from an allegation to the presumption of fact: "This recruiting is happening..." Somewhere there is a step where allegations are verified or refuted by the gathering of facts. Easier to just skip this step, though, I suppose.
  12. At Trinity, for each of the past five the years the number of starters from Catholic grade schools and parishes has ranged from 18-20/22. This year the number is 19/22. It isn’t a secret, buy a game program and you can see the school/church from which the players enrolled. And by the way, if the total was 22/22 starters enrolling from non-Catholic schools/parishes, what is the point? Would this violate some KHSAA rule?
  13. Afternoon Underdogs on AM 790 in Louisville have been on it most days.
  14. Trinity is 0-4 against Cinn. X. It's time. Rocks by 14.
  15. This message was sent to Coach Beatty and the Rocks' staff - and forwarded to others - after Friday night's win. A good example and reminder to all of us about what is best about this game we love. Coach, My name is Jack Schwab my oldest son Joe played for you and was a manager a few years ago. I wanted to let you know of an incident that took place when the team was leaving the field tonight. I was at the game with my wife and youngest son Ryan. Ryan has Cerebral Palsy and in a wheelchair, and because of his condition he will not be able to attend Trinity. He still loves to go to the games and support the Green and White. He watches very attentively to the entire game. After the game he asked to go down to see the players. I wheeled him down to the area that the players were to come off the field. He was very excited in anticipation of the team leaving the field. When the players started coming off the field his mother helped him raise his hand so the players could slap hands with him. Coach it made his night. A good number of players slapped his hand on their way to the locker room. My wife let go of his hand and told him to hold his hand up by himself. After a few moments his hand began to drop because he is easily fatigued. It was to my surprise that as his hand started to drop the passing players would help him lift his hand so they could slap it when they filed by him; A few even shook his hand. One of the most impressive acts was by number 61. He walked by and was about 10 yards away when he turned and ran back knelt ever so briefly and shook Ryan’s hand. I know this does not sound like much, but it really made his night. It was so impressive to see these young men not shy away from him because he is different and make him feel special. This is a very professional group of men. Please thank your players for us.
  16. 17-6 Bombers with 2 min. left in the 3rd. Bombers just sailed a snap over the punter's head...Glenville 1st and goal at the 8.
  17. The mailing mentioned by ladiesbballcoach is the infamous one that has been seen on TV being waved in the air by Superintendent Sears. For those who think facts are important here are some related to that mailing. If you aren’t interested in facts then skip this post. 1. This mailing was first mentioned in a public setting when non-public schools were called to KHSAA headquarters for an unspecified meeting. Fifty plus people sat in the audience while members of the KHSAA special task force sat at a conference table. At some point in the meeting one of the committee members mentioned this mailing. Representatives from Louisville girls’ schools immediately said that they did not send it and wanted to see it. 2. Come to find out it was a direct mail piece published by the Archdiocese of Louisville that was sent to more than 3,000 households in Jefferson and surrounding counties (the Archdiocese comprises 20+ counties in central Kentucky). It was sent to several hundred households in Meade County alone. The brochure has been sent for many years and will be again this year. The Archdiocese buys a mailing list of households with school aged children. The brochure is not school-specific or program specific. Anyone interested in seeing this year’s version should contact the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office for Lifelong Formation and Education. 3. It is the same type of literature sent by JCPS to households with school-aged children. While some outside the metropolitan area may think this is all very strange (along with the billboards, radio and TV ads, and large central Open House held each year by JCPS) that is the nature of education in this community that has more than 40 high schools and nearly 200 elementary and middle schools. Schools and school systems advertise their offerings and programs. 4. This matter has been clearly explained to the KHSAA and the superintendent of Meade County schools. There is nothing illegal about the mailing. It does not violate By-law 10 in spirit or letter. The KHSAA found no violation. Even though this mailing has been explained to folks like Superintendent Sears, he and others continue to bring it up as if it is some kind of smoking gun. Call such tactics what you want. The word disingenuous comes to mind. It is exactly this type of rhetoric that clouds this entire issue.
  18. I am told it has been pushed to 8 p.m. It was originally scheduled at 7:30.
