  1. I have noted many in the media and elsewhere who laud Trinity's sophomore class (see latest posts in this morning's C-J). And yes, they are very talented. But this TEAM is made up of more than just sophomores. There are some incredibly talented upperclassmen who lead this team in lots of ways. Weyhing, Bishop, Kopp, Steffey, Steele, Sugg, Barry, Reynolds...I could go on. The THS staff is doing a good job of putting the pieces of this puzzle in place. They appear to really enjoy playing the game and each other. Congrats to Trinity on the win and hoping that the injured X players recover and return. I'm sure they will learn and improve. But as for looking to the next two years...the future is now.
  2. I was impressed by the discipline of both teams. Little or no laundry on the field despite some incredible (but clean) hits on both sides of the ball. An extremely hard-hitting contest with several plays where helmets were dislodged, but the kids always bounced up and got back into the action. WOW, just a great atmosphere for a high school game! Trinity's prayer by the chaplain that opened the pre-game ceremonies was a really neat touch and well-received by the huge crowd. Two class programs. Hats off to the Elder faithful who came down in droves. Picture perfect weather!
  3. Not so sure they'll be the ones taking the licks these next two weeks. This time, the Ohio teams have to sit on a bus for two hours after a school day...
  4. Not sure. Corey Littrell pitched a complete game Monday and Ben Fuchs came in to relieve for maybe an inning last night.
  5. Rocks score 2 in the bottom of the seventh to advance to the regional final on June 3 at 7:30 p.m.
  6. I'd be hesitant to bet against Coach Szabo's team on senior night. Though the game means nothing in terms of post-season play (Trinity will play Seneca in District), there is still a lot of pride in this team. They just seem to take care of business every game, especially at the defensive end. I was impressed with Eastern's game against the Bruins though. Gonna be a close one either way. I hope the weather cooperates for these teams!
  7. Actually, X played a triangle and 2 for much of the game, which I haven't seen in awhile. Butcher face-guarded Sewell, not even knowing where the ball was for much of the game, and another defender chased Epley. Interesting attempt to stop them. Would have been a rout had they played them straight up. Good move by Klein to keep it close.
  8. Actually, from what I saw on the TV replay, J Town got off a wide open 3 to win then rebounded the miss and got off a decent look from 2 to tie as time expired.

  10. I have to respectfully disagree. While that team certainly had a magical run when that trio were juniors, they never developed the depth that the current team has. So when the Saxtons were both hit with regrettable injuries when they were seniors (particularly Kyle Saxton late in the season) they were unable to handle Ballard in the regional. This current team is deep at every position with very little drop-off except for Josh Sewell when he goes out. They are fun to watch and will only get better. This LIT will be a great early barometer for the wide open regional.
  11. It's a looooong horse race. Sad to say that one of these three teams will not even get out of their district: Seneca, Ballard, Trinity!!! :scared: Congrats to Trinity on this fine accomplishment.
  12. It's supposed to air on Digital Cable channel 524 in Louisville. Airs in Lex. as well but I'm not sure where. They're carrying tomorrow's final as well.
  13. Haven't seen Male play, so there's that. Trinity's greatest strength - and they have several - is their quality depth at every position. What does Male have coming off the bench? If it's just six or seven guys doing the damage for Male, I like Trinity in this one.
  14. This game played out about the way I thought it would with Trinity completely imposing their style of play on Seneca. The Redhawks had a mini-spurt where the pace picked up early in the second half but a timely timeout settled them down and they pushed the lead back to double digits. Great win and tournament for the Rocks.
  15. I watched Seneca dismantle an out-manned Knott team that played surprisingly little defense, so not much to be learned from that except the Redhawks have some very talented players. Their strength is their explosiveness on the break, and they are very unselfish. However, this game will be played in the half court where Trinity excels...I like Trinity's chances in this one.
  16. The refs decided early on to let these fine two teams play. Both have very talented teams, but Trinity was MUCH more aggressive offensively, hence the disparity in free throws. Additionally, GRC has almost NO bench, while Szabo's team goes nine or 10 deep. It's not rocket science, and no one got homered. GRC will watch tape and wonder why they let THS take it to them as much as they did. Congrats to the Rocks.
  17. I totally agree, but it sends a message to your entire team when the coach puts your BEST offensive player on the opponent's BEST player.
  18. I was really impressed with the way Josh Sewell responded to Trinity coach Mike Szabo's challenge to guard future Vol Trae Golden. Sewell clearly has the offensive skills, but it was his defensive effort that fuelled the Rocks.
  19. They have a way to go to beat Eastern IMO. Trinity has a nice team.
  20. It wasn't that many years ago that Coach Glaser started a soph. who transferred to X from T in August in the Sept. game. Were the seniors he beat out happy? Probably not. They're competitive kids. But they also want what's best for the team at BOTH schools. These coaches put the players on the field who they think give them the best chance to win. It's pretty simple. Don't make it into what it's not.
  21. That may make X fans feel better, but the record also says in the past nine years, Trinity seven titles, X two. Darn statistics!
  22. Point spread notwithstanding - is it really relevant - T has improved. And markedly so. :sssh:
  23. Correct me if I am wrong, but it was my understanding that the SOLE reason the games were moved was that UofL could not guarantee the availability of PJCS going forward.
