  1. That sounds good in theory and you would think that it so but you can have great stats and be a fantastic player, but if your school team is not well known or you don't go to the high profile tournaments you can get overlooked. It takes a combination of alot of things to get your name out there, especially state wide or larger. You can be the king of your district or your town, but that may not take you where you want to go.
  2. Just like last year, the ballots were not due until after the completion of the state tournament. I want to say the they were due the 20 or 21st(today). IMO, yes I think the tournament did have an effect on the outocome of Miss Basketball- Tia Gibbs will win. All year the talk was about Reid and Novosel and Gibbs was always 3rd but I think her consistient season and outstanding post-season performances will seal the deal. She had a monster state tournament despite not getting to play much in the final game - what she was able to do against Manual was very impressive. Reid was reasonably held in check by them in region but they (Manual) had no answer for Gibbs.
  3. As is football, baseball, etc. So I guess we should do away with tournament MVP's because no ONE player made the difference. There are times when you have multiple players step up equally but generally it is easy to pick out who were the key performers. As for players who score the points getting the awards, last time I checked you have to have points to win the game and that does take some skill. Now I realize that someone had to get them the ball, etc but without scoring a basket, you will lose. Offensive players who excel always get more recognition in any sport. Not everyone gets recognition in a game even though everyone contributes something in every game- except with Upward where every player gets a star. These awards are subjective no matter who you put in charge of them- someone will always feel slighted.
  4. Congrats to Simon Kenton- they have one heck of a team- so many girls stepped up for them. WOW!!!! Coach Stowers did a FANTASTIC job of coaching - he had great game plans the entire regional tournament. Awesome job!
  5. 8th region semi's not happening today - waiting to find out about plans for Sunday.
  6. Should the 8th region @ Shelby Co. cancel tonight- which they have not as of yet, Game plan is to play semi's tomorrow(sat) afternoon with the championship being played Sunday afternoon. Going to be tough for WV & SK to get there.
  7. Anderson is beatable and they may already be thinking about the finals-which plays well for Walton. They will need to play a good game which they are capable of doing- but play the entire game like they played the last two quarters and they have a strong chance. I would give the edge to Anderson.
  8. I was impressed that Carroll came back like they did in the second half. Hats off to the Lady Panthers- you could have just rolled over especially when Girdy fouled out early in the 4th but you didn't. You all played to the buzzer....good for you. Good luck next year and to your graduating seniors!
  9. I would agree with your statement -very physical for both teams. There are some real sore players out there today. At least the kids from SO have something to smile about. Another BIG game on Friday- should be another great one!
  10. Lady Dragons pull the upset tonight. Crazy finish with South hitting the winning layup with uder 5 seconds to go. Refs let them play all night - not many fouls called on either side. South was down 7 at half and by 3 to start the 4th quarter. All the South girls really stepped up defensively in the 2nd half - held Shelby to 13 points in the second half.
  11. I too have witnessed this as well. There are those officials who do carry over - and call differently against certain coaches who they have had "disagreements." Human behavior makes it difficult to separate the two and is only natural. I am sure that they do try to be ojective for the most part though. Officials are part of the game and you do need to just play and make adjustments as the game goes on. If they do switch that is not such a bad thing because they will have to face unfamiliar ones when they are at the state tournament.
  12. Well said. Still wondering about other regions though other than the 6,7,9 & 16. What about the others....anyone know about them?
  13. Thanks and very well said- the big prize is state....go Mason and Lacy!
  14. Am curious as I saw something about this in the 9th region in another thread - Conner vs. Highlands - they had 16th region officials. Did some checking and the 6th and 7th are not doing this. What does anyone know about any of the other regions and why are some and some not? Very interesting......
  15. Way to go- very impressive.:dancingpa Does anyone know where she is going to play in college?
  16. Just curious to know who you were rooting for because generally the losing team complains more about the officiating than the winners do- myself included. I have read this entire thread and was not at the game but it does seem that the amont of foul shots was quite a difference in the game. Sometimes that happens though - it is usally not a perfect balance as much as we fans want it to be. I have seen both teams this year and IMO I would have to give the nod to Conner eventhough they lost to Highlands twice- they seemed more experienced and poised which goes a long way this time of year. Sounds like a good game. What region were the officials from? Is each region assigned to another region for the entire tournament?
  17. That is great- fine player going to a tremendous school. Great game against Oldham last night to boot!
  18. I think it was you who said upsets happen this time of year and it was a big rival game. Sometimes things just don't go as planned. IMO Oldham played their best game(2nd half) of the year against South- their shots fell and key turnovers were capitalized on. I am not at all surprised that Oldham lost to Walton- they did not have the motivation that they did in district play and I think they thought they would walk over them and were looking to play Anderson in the next game. Cannot overlook any team this time of year- there is no tomorrow! Perhaps it is fate that has stepped in so that South can have a first round match-up against Shelby. They are very motivated and very pumped up for the upset.
  19. Agree on all points and it should make for an exciting regional tournament - Shelby vs South will be a great game on Tuesday. South has been knocked out of region the last two years by Shelby so you might as well start there - will it be three? Good luck to everyone at Region- should be some interesting games all around.
  20. Anyone know anything about: Megan Issacs- Hart Co Sara Rowe- Rockcastle Lacy Cline - Mason County Whitney Cundiff- NCC Casey Smith - Notre Dame Where they are looking, offers, etc?
  21. Congrats Katie- very well desreved and will have a great career. Good college program and coaching staff.
