Local talent, by that I mean the greater Cincinnati area, is what the most sucessful Thomas More teams were loaded with. Congratulations and good luck to these three fine football players!

Pomp will be OK. I made the same mistakes in handling players when I first started. You learn so much after your first year and you only become a better coach every year after. I would not mind my son playing for any of these gentleman anytime. I know he will be both well coached and treated fairly:thumb:

I attended the Newport practice Thursday and found that the kids were pretty focused and the coaches were not wasting a bunch of time on useless X's and O's but rather on fundamentals. The O-line was practicing fundamentals and getting after each other in drills, the wideouts were working on get offs and the first step, the RB's were working on ball protection and hitting the hole. This is definately the plus I see of Newport of how they are wisely using spring ball

Eric Lanthorne works in the Drywall business, has a wife and a newborn daughter living in Mason, Ohio. This information was as of 2003, the last time I had personally talked to him. He was very good friends with my brother in high school and they still talk. His father passed away this past summer but I was unable to go to the funeral. His father was a key man in the Newport Fire Fighters Pee-Wee Football Organization.

You could say that, but I beleive there is more to it. Maybe Coach Turner wants to be closer to his family again. His son Lee is the Principal at Latonia Elementary and has two kids (making Coach Turner a Grand Pa obviously) and his daughter is the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Newport, not sure if she is a teacher though or if she is a mother, but she is here, so that is all that would matter to Coach Turner. Maybe Scott is a new challenge that he wants. He has done a good job everywhere he has been, so why not another one, along with being closer to his family again, maybe this is exactley what Coach wants. A new Football challenge with his family to support him every Friday without having to drive two hours. But this is just my guess!

Ken Turner. He was the Head Coach at Holmes in the early-mid nineties (before John Vandermeer took over). He is a classy individual that needs to be back in NKY. It would be great to see him in action locally again.

Newport has had their share of good football coaches. Sometimes the well runs dry and the best coaches take nothing and make it into something. When Newport has talent, watch out, it can get a little ugly.

He is speaking of Mark Goetz, who also was a good football coach.

He will NHS Big Daddy. Jim Hyder had a hard road to overcome as a first year head coach, it will get better. Teaching and Coaching is not an easy profession.
