  1. At the 3:20 mark of the video is the play where the flag is picked up. #45 is the one that the flag was dropped on. It was not a block in the back or a crack back block. I love it when there is a video posted that clears up what we all thought we saw. Birds ran 6 offensive plays in the first 18 minutes of game clock. Campbell dictated pace and controlled the ball. HHS needs to play faster. Get plays called. Get plays run. Use outside weapons. Two platoon not a big weapon when you play slow and run only a handful of plays. After 2 games, this is the most conservative offense I have ever seen in Ft Thomas. Defense got a little more aggressive in the second half and came up with a few big plays. Waiting for the offense to do the same. Camels have a solid team. Good game plan and should have won the game. Turnovers sealed the Camels fate.
  2. Rough start for the Birds. First quarter and a half consisted of 8 penalties, a fumble, and a snap over the punter's head for a safety. Score was 9-0 Jags midway through the second quarter. Once HHS stopped shooting themselves in the foot they took over the game. Highlands scored 42 unanswered to put the game away heading to the fourth quarter. Cooper scored 2 late fourth quarter TD's to finish out the scoring. Cooper took Venneman away. When HHS forced the ball his way it was a bad result. The TD to Wogan on fourth and 5 was a beautiful play. Venneman ran a short route and Wogan came across the field deep behind the defender concentrating on covering Venneman. Schoellman laid the ball out there and Wogan ran under for the TD catch and run. Schwalbach was hard to bring down. As Cooper's defense got worn down, Schwalbach took advantage and found the end zone 4 times. The Jags running game was not very successful and their passing game was not good. Four interception for Steiden and an interception return for TD by Harrison Traylor. The Birds looked a bit better than the #18 - class 5A team in the state and are probably a tad better than #9 in N Ky.
  3. Now we have resorted to starting an update thread when the scrimmage was over. The names may change but the antics remain the same.
  4. Highlands VS. Dixie CovCath is the obvious favorite in 5A District 5 The HHS / Dixie game will determine second place in the district and who gets a home playoff game. District 5 is matched up with district 3 (Bullitt Counties/Nelson/Oldhams) for the playoffs. It is important for teams like HHS that are trying to get back on top to keep playing into November. Longer season = more practice, more games, and more experience for younger kids. No more one and done in the playoffs.
  5. I have been to 2 games that this rule was applicable. Back in 2015 the team I followed had Juniors on their girls JV team. Showed up to play JV game and opponent had 8th graders. Opponent would not have enough to play if those kids not involved. Juniors were taken off game roster of our team and the JV game was played. The Juniors were added to the vasrsity roster for that day and played sparsely in the Varsity game. A few days later a same problem except this time the varsity game was played first. The Juniors were again removed from the JV roster for that game and the game played. Junior parents and players left rather upset that no one bothered to check into the make up of opponents roster. I think coaches do a pretty good job of making sure this rule is followed in games. The fact that teams that roster middle schoolers on their JV team can't practice with or against their varsity team is where the rules tend to get broken.
  6. Van Gundy must have said 20 times how much better Cleveland's defensive game plan was in game 2, even after they gave up 40 points in the first quarter. I'm no ex-NBA coach but this doesn't make much sense to me.
  7. I have a completely different take on this thread, especially as it relates to HHS basketball. I look at this as why are the kids/parents looking to leave HHS and go somewhere else. Highlands has top notch academics, excellent community and parental support, brand new facilities, an established respected coach, and a very successful middle school feeder program. In recent history, the W/L record would have looked much different with Ben Weyer in Blue and White versus Blue and Gold. Going forward the team would look much different with returning 2 year starter Posey at the PG and a young big man (that got varsity minutes last year) patrolling the paint rather than playing up on the hill at NCC. This is not an NCC problem, this is a HHS problem that the Bluebirds need to figure out or the cycle will continue in years to come.
  8. Bobby Gesenhues - Kid Galahad, all around athlete, best sport was softball post high school.
  9. I saw the video also. This is being blown out of proportion. The article and headline do not paint the correct picture.
  10. Sorry for quoting myself, but I found my own answer by using the search button. BGP All State Basketball Teams are listed with POY and the balance of the team in alphabetical order.
  11. I'm certainly not advocating a cover up. But anytime you rank people or teams it is subjective. Not all year end teams rank the individual players. Does the BGP all state team get ranked or is just a list of players?
  12. The NKBBBA should have listed player of the year and the rest of the members of the team in alphabetical order. Why the need to rank the players? A simple alphabetical listing of the balance of the team avoids all this banter. Would anyone have objected to: McNeil - POY Bertsch, Bradfield, Frederick, ..........etc...
  13. So many on here get caught up on the "D-I" tag. Bellarmine is D-II but plays at a very high level. Currently ranked #1 in the Midwest in the latest poll and #4 nationally. Their roster is full of DI type talent and a lot of it is from KY. The X factor in all of this is how well the staff at Bellarmine does in recruiting these kids. They make the kids feel special, making the kids want to be a part of a highly successful national program. Sean McNeil is an excellent basketball player and made a great choice. I'm sure he could have held out and eventually been recruited and played in the MAC or OVC - then beat his chest as a D-I signee. I gather that's not his style and he will be much happier helping the Knights build on their recent successes.
  14. Love to resurrect these threads each year. The participants from 2014 tourney are this years seniors.
  15. Big Ralph - 8-1 m/l Will be bet down. Third in his first start at TP. Lost second to a next out winner. Shipped to Laurel and was 20-1 even though he had just ran a nice 3rd at TP. Much tougher spot at Laurel. Back at TP against lesser.
  16. With the way the CovCath fan base travels, I think the gym will be full. There will be additional seating in the cafeteria and the game shown on a feed to those TV's. The HHS gym is much nicer than in the past. Renovations done 2 years ago have improved the experience. Less seating though as aisles with handrails on both sides and the seats do not infringe on the court as they did in the past. More room between row 1 and court. Get there by the JV game to get a seat in the gym.
  17. I'm confused. What was the Holmes game plan that resulted in a 37 point loss? How does it help HHS keep it close?
  18. Thanks BirdBrain In the game in question, Campbell County shot the free throws. There was then a jump ball. Not sure if it was written down for a personal foul for the Highlands player. Pretty sure it was not counted as a team foul. Coach did not sit the whole game. BTW, did I mention this was before the frosh game.
  19. Two shots for the opposing team to start the game. Is there a jump ball or does opponent get possession? Is it a bench technical assessed to the head coach or is it on the player? Does it count as a personal foul also? Saw this happen earlier in the week and wondered if it was administered properly
  20. HHS won the frosh game and Campbell won the JV game.
