This was brought up in another thread, but I thought it might get more play in it's own thread... The year Jared Lorenzen, of Highlands, won Mr Football, Derek Smith, also of Highlands, was the runner-up. Has the 1 - 2 punch ever happened at another school? It was also mentioned that Derek was runner-up for Mr Basketball the same year. Has any other individual come that close to winning both in one season?

Busy putting together The Courier-Journal All-State team. The team will be published in the newspaper on Christmas Day! But while we wait for the team to be announced. I wanted to drop the following chart into the blog. It's all-time C-J first-team All-State selections by school. In all, 175 schools have had a first-team All-State pick. Here I go again...agreeing with CF! Belfry MIGHT be able to COMPETE (not beat) with one of those teams. If LC's opponents would have played the above teams, they would have 6 additional losses. Lone Oak, Letcher and Lincoln (to name a few) had great records, but were hardly great teams.

That explains why he eventually had to have knees surgery!

Obviously neither of you have been on the golf course with him...I was just kidding about cursing on the field at innocent high school boys. I've known Roger all of my life and he is one of my favorite people. If only he had been able to have a few athletic kids!

They were only down 14-0, getting the ball to start the third. Could it have been a here we go again moment as they went to the locker room?

How much of that might have come from the TD as the half ended? Did they go into the locker room knowing it was over? I know a few years ago I talked to one of the Owensboro players that played against the Birds in the championship game. He said they were pumped, knew they could win before the game started and then Highlands returned the opening kick off for a TD. He said you could feel it on the sideline that the players knew it was over. Football is so emotional and such a game of mo, it is sometimes hard to overcome a quick or surprising blow.
