The year Jared Lorenzen, of Highlands, won Mr Football, Derek Smith, also of Highlands, was the runner-up. Has the 1 - 2 punch ever happened at another school?

 

It was also mentioned that Derek was runner-up for Mr Basketball the same year. Has any other individual come that close to winning both in one season?

That article is wrong...The only Mr/Ms Basketball to ever come out of Leslie County is Jody Sizemore/1999.

He was runner-up for Mr. Basketball. Dameon Fishback from Greenwood won it in '96.

Actually, I think Dan Langhi (Marshall County, Vanderbilt, NBA) was the runner-up ... seems like it was reported that way at the time. Couch was a finalist, as I recall.

Couch scored a lot of points but I doubt he was in the top two or three in the state year.

 

They used to didn't announce the runner-up in the Mr. Football. All the finalists could say they were runner-up that way.

Nah, Lofton was an excellent basketball player, but a little above average football player.
