  1. From an elevated vantage point in the stands, you can see things much clearly than an official on the floor that is a few feet away... not to mention getting straight lined by players that are moving in / out of your vision. It is not as easy as some make it appear to be. Even the best officials will miss / pass this call occasionally.
  2. You might be surprised to learn of the number of high school referees that actually DO work some level of NCAA, NAIA, or IBB basketball. I know I was when I got to know a few of these guys recently.
  3. "but students have experienced something pushing them and seen glowing red eyes. There are also stories of students hearing voices in the gym and experiencing cold spots during the day." excerpted from the article.... Sounds like an average day at school back in the day!
  4. Threads like this are very subjective and not based upon fact... just like the claim that 90% of current referees have not played the game in high school. What makes a good official or a bad official? I guess the answer depends on who watched the game and upon which team won. Based purely upon spectator opinion, I have been called terrible and good in the same game... Not sure I agreed with either, but really don't let it bother me much what folks think of my work on the floor.
  5. I saw that mentioned earlier today on Fox News, so it must be true.
  6. Wow, who scheduled this? Is this a makeup game for a previously canceled one that should have been played earlier?
  7. From what I have seen in person, and from what my fellow BGP'rs have been posting in other threads, WV's McNeil seems like he is a pretty good player.
  8. Nope, not for / from Williamstown, and not for / from Trimble neither. In fact, I was not at the ball game at all. Just asking questions is all. In my experience, basketball officials call a game tight when there is reason to do so. Having not been there I can only go on your obviously very biased opinion, but I doubt ANY referee comes into a game thinking they are going to blow a whistle on everything they see. After all, didn't yall pay your money to watch them officiate the game?
  9. What lesson in life did they learn? Could it also be possible the refs 'had' to call all of those fouls for player safety and to manage a game that would have gotten out of hand?
  10. I say good riddance. So long Marvin, have a good life.
  11. Prayers to your family coming from mine. From reading this thread, it seems as though both of you have been through a lot lately and I pray that you will find rest, comfort, and peace in the coming days. Health to you all, and God speed on the recovery for you both. God bless.
  12. I saw the remake version this past week and thought it was a good movie. However, I am an old school kind of guy and much prefer the John Wayne version to this. I did not care much for the accent Bridges was trying to use through this movie.
  13. All excellent choices I must say. I also liked the Green Berets, and The Flying Leathernecks. The Shootist was good one as well.
  14. I saw the remake of a classic John Wayne movie, True Grit, this week. It got me to reminiscing about some of the great John Wayne movies I have watched. True Grit, the original version anyway, is one of my favs. My all time favorite John Wayne movie is The Cowboys. What's yours?
  15. Freedom from the bonds of this world that continue to keep us down. Salvation to all, and to those that believe, life eternal and everlasting.
  16. Great news for BF getting to come home. So glad to hear of it. I wish you continued recovery at home and God's speed.
  17. Congratulations to all of the young men on this list. I am certain that all are deserving to be included and I wish them well.
  18. Friend you are comparing UK-UL collegiate basketball to high school football popularity, and in my opinion it is not the same. Since we are talking football here, when was the last time that either UK - UL football played for a national title? On to the debate at hand, One poster here hit it on the head with football being more of a social event on a Friday night for a community. Folks are tailgating, catching up with old friends, talking and having a good time during what is generally a pleasant environment. Basketball is played when it is darn cold outside and not many are going to tailgate, and mull about socializing out doors. I have also seen that where the basketball team has some talent many of the small town community teams will come out in droves to support them night in and night out.... comparable to football attendance on a Friday night. However, if they are average talent, not many folks come to watch.
  19. They both have bright futures in my opinion. Of course I was a lineman in my day and know little about what makes a good QB vs a Great QB. They both have the size, skills, and arm strength to play on many D1 schools. Someday, I would like to see them playing on a Saturday afternoon in the fall and say that I remember them when they were playing on the fields in northern KY demolishing the opposing defenses with ease. Good luck to both in there careers!
  20. Who are some of the schools that are offering Pike?
  21. In my prayers indeed! God speed BF, recover well.
  22. Does anyone know when the Gallatin County game tips off? I would like to see them play.
