Sorry....but your one game observation is wrong. Newports good defense pushed us to the edges more than normal, but we still scored on them right over RT and with a big pass play. While you are correct in that we are smaller across the line than last year(we were unusually big)...the obsession for Titans is perfect line play along with backs who block for each other. Combine that with backs that need only a glimpse and the smallest crease open for only a second, and you get three pretty quick guys in the defensive backfield quite a few times each night. They also have the luxury of a couple of guys who enjoy making a hole where there is none. The perception is all speed, but in reality Mercer is multi-faceted in their approach.

Well, Mercer Co. met Larry Vaughts expectations. Still will be crushed not to make it to Papa Johns, even with a perfect regular season.

This subject came up during lunch the other day.... Dad (Harrodsburg early 80's) vs. Son (Mercer Co. 2006) Why we'd of murdered these punks...... :D O.K. O.K. just joking, sons team would have called up the middle school squad by halftime. We wouldn't have handled them... especially with all the brown forearm pads and clunky Spot-Bilt cleats we were all wearing.:confused: sorry junior only dads know what I'm talking about. If you can remember that far back, how do you think your old team would have done against your sons current team?

The "next game" will be the most important and challenging game. No bulletin board material here...:sssh: Besides, with the new playoff format, IMHO the winner of the regular season game is at a disadvantage. Mercer can just overwhelm you right out of the gates. Now take a team that has experienced that, coach 'em up, mentally prepare them for what they know could happen, etc.., I honestly think every round of the playoffs will present some challenges for Mercer. But I have a hunch Jaggers is fixing to open up the playbook, open up the offense and push the pedal down. Defensively I expect no real changes.....that group is just flat out tough. Either way, IF we make it to Louisville, I hope to see :devil: waiting for us. Good luck to you all.

500 yards total offense for Mercer. Over 400 yards at the half. 10 TD's 5 rushing 2 passing 3 special teams Nasty night for football.

Thank you all for this thread and the intelligent discussion posted. :thumb: The best way I know how to describe the merge and the effect on this years football team is with these three facts. 1. Mercer Co. was 10-2 last year and lost to a superior Russell team. 2. Mercer returned a good portion of those same players and were primed to make some noise with or without the merge. 3. Mercer absorbed 200 students.....total. Anyway, I for one appreciate the posts and courtesy in these posts.

Danville will do what a perennial State power does....look ahead. Danville will win Class A State. Period, end of story. The loss to Frankfort will be a key reason they will do so.
