  1. You are absolutely correct the game was alot closer than the final score. Just a couple of observations on the game. Fortman is real gamer congratulations on a fine game. Okoro big body but her knee must still be bothering her because she did not move real well the whole game. From my understanding she is better than what I saw. Boone sped the game up in the first half and it looked like Russell was a little tired. 2nd half was a foul fest and it slowed the game down for Russell which is very detrimental to Boone's strength which is their bench. Russell shot 42 free throws to Boone's 16 a little disparity there. 17 of Fortmans points were from the charity stipe. I commend her on her shooting 17/20 pretty darn good. Are all 16 region refs so thin skinned. The Rebel faithful (that is us parents) yelled at what we thought was a bad call and the ref actually stopped reffing and came over to us and told us not to yell at them anymore. Now I have screamed at many refs, nothing derogative, or degrading, or cursing and never have they stopped and came over to tell the crowd to knock it off. The only one was the grey haired ref after that he was not going to give us a break the rest of the game. The other two seemed not to care just the one. Tough venues and games like this will only make Boone better in the end. Good luck Russell and Good luck Boone the rest of the season.
  2. I don't think either team is annointing themselves 9th region champs. They understand that overconfidence will beat them just as easily as a bad night. Coach Fookes will not let complacency ever set in on her teams. Fookes has 1 golden rule there are no set starters each player has to earn her spot each week in practice. I think there are 2 or 3 9th region teams that could beat either team on any given night, but on the same note I will take my chances with the team we have this year. Conner has posted a couple of good wins recently and are quietly compliling an excellent record right now, also you can never count out Holmes who has one of the best coaches in the region along with Fookes. Last you have New Cath with some very solid talent inside and out and a gamer in Klei who will not quit till the end. Should be interesting the rest of the year which makes for good basketball. Tomorrow we are off to Russell who is ranked in the top 20 in the state. We will see how the Lady Rebels react to a tough loss and then go right back on the road to another tough team and venue. Hopefully I will post a winning score tomorrow for the Rebels.
  3. You are absolutely right it was a shame one team had to lose. Nicole put the team on her back and carried them past the finish line. We played with Nicole and Emily over the summer at Washington in the Junior Nationals. Class acts with very nice partents. Jackie was the first to congratulate them on their win she is one drained worn out girl right now. Cya in the Regionals Old Guy.
  4. Nell is already utilizing a 9 person rotation right now. Sam is starting at JV and is doing very well down there hitting the 3's. She will get her chance to show her stuff at the varsity level next year at the gaurd position. Boone is loaded at that position so it is hard for everyone to get minutes. This year you have JC, Switzer, Sparrow, and Sandlin garnering most of the playing time. She has gotten in this year and scored some points. Her time will come she just has to be ready.
  5. excellent insight webgems you hit the nail right on the head. I concur with your whole post. Boone has the depth that most coaches dream of. I give credit to these girls even when the bench was in the game the starters that were sitting were rooting them on as if they were the starters. You can't teach that team chemistry. Hats off to the seniors for treating the younger players as equals in all aspects.
  6. We just played Hart County and they had to play 3 7th garaders not one time did I hear we lost because our 7th graders could not keep up. You play with the hand you are dealt and do the best you can. When I say hundreds I am talking across the country not just Ky. As far as ranking RH came in 2nd in the state and had 3 returning players I would say the rankings were correct for the start of the season. Now as far as here on out it is a different situation. How do you think those 6th and 7th graders feel when all they read is "we would be better if we didn't have to play them and had older better players". If I was RH I would be thanking them for comming out and giving their best every game.
  7. Just a note to all the teams that played in our Exposure Tournament. My wife and I worked the hospitality room all 4 days and without exception every player coach and family member were as polite and congenial as I have met even after a loss. Parents you can be proud of your children they do listen to you and are fine young men and women even when you are not around. It was a pleasure to meet and talk to some of them. Hart County Shelby County Rockcastle County Presentation Simon Kenton Holmes Notre Dame Thanks for a fine tournament and look forward to seeing you all down the road.
  8. We all know the situation at RH why do we have to hear the same thing after every game. It gets to be old. EVERYONE knows that RH has 2 of the best girls in the State on their team but no bench. There are hundreds of High Scools who have NO Superstars and NO bench and they fight the same fight as you all. Be thankful for what you have and make the best of it. Please no more our best 3 can play with the best 3 from any other High School it is a 5 person sport still.
  9. I think I will keep our coach. You validated my point exactly. When you have bench players that can step up when asked it makes the coach look like a superstar that she made that decision. I think JC will be Boone's point for the remaining 3 yrs, but Heather will get as much playing time as she can handle (that is #34) She still sees the game at warp speed like all Freshman do so she makes Frshman mistakes. Fookes will mold her if she wants to be teached. I take my hat off to all our bench players they won the game for us last night. Sparrow hitting clutch 3's. Findley giving us good minutes in the post rebounding and scoring, and Reed the most athletic of all our girls banging away at Dickman and Drees and scoring to boot. Not to mention Sandlin at the point to give JC a breather. YOU GIRLS ARE THE BOMB.:ylsuper: Good luck to ND at Atlanta and good luck to the Rebels in Tennessee over the Holidays.
  10. I think you put to much blame on Notre Dames coach and give to much credit to Fookes. Not taking anything away from Coach Fookes I think she is one of the best High School coaches in the State. She had more weapons at her disposal than Darpel did that was the difference in the game. Knowing what rotation to put in at what time is a luxury most coaches do not have. I don't have the stats but bench scoring will show a very lopsided match. My hats off to Tierney pobably one of the best games I have seen her play ever. She hounded my daughter all night and had one of the best offensive outputs I have seen her have. She went in for one rebound and I swear it took 5 seconds for her to come down. Everyone who was there got there moneys worth on this game. Good luck to both teams the rest of the year.
  11. I agree with Coach K.....imagine that....teams will try to slow down against us but I think with our press and trap we will keep the tempo pretty upbeat. I think a lot of teams will also try to zone us and pack their players down in the paint but this might not be the answer either if our girls are hitting from the outside like I know they can. But by the same token anyone can have a good night as well as a bad night as seen on Wednesday when Boone came away with a very hard fought and extremely close victory.
  12. Boone had to fight to the last to get this win. Mcauley played a gritty game and almost pulled off the upset.
  13. Have a great season and Good Luck Shannon Turner
  14. I think that would technically be the tri-county rebels. But like 3ptshooter said this was discussed in another thread. I would have to put Boone in the top 10 in the state just don't know where.I don't know enough yet about the other teams. Maybe someone with more knowledge about the entire State could chime in. The easy picks would be Lexington Catholic and Scott County.
  15. yes. JV and Varsity tryout together Freshman by themselves. Nell keeps 17 to 18 JV and Varsity each year. INDAZONE was correct about the girl quitting this year in tryouts.
  16. well since your daughter is blessed with her hard work ethic and great grades and college letters I am sure she doesn't have to worry about being number 18. There are girls though that love to be part of the team that don't have that talent and are happy to be 18 and have a chance to play with their friends. 8 through 18 are underclassmen and mostly JV that get the benifit of playing for Coach Fookes and learning the game of basketball so that when they are older have a chance to play varsity at Boone. Every team has these players that are vital for practice and some do mature or grow and turn into very good varsity players so they are very thankful they are kept. What girls on any other team go in not trying to beat Boone. That is rediculous, everybody wants to beat Boone so they do more than just show up they go in with the attitude this is our chance to show what we have and we get their 110%. Last year I think we were picked 3rd in the 9th region and a question mark to how the young players would be able to step in. I don't know what you were watching last year but there were no blow outs that I saw and most games came down to the wire. Lastly I have said numerous times if the transfer is done legally I have no problem if they went to Ryle or anywhere else for that matter. At Boone we play with what we have and don't worry about the rest.
  17. doesn't matter to me if you know who I am. By reading most of my posts most know who I am anyway. Nothing to hide. Also like I said I have nothing against these girls as a matter of fact Rachel is a friend of the family and Casey played on the same AAU organization as my daughter. So if you are trying to stir something up you are looking in the wrong direction.
  18. Casey Jackson and Rachel Franks. Franks used to be her last name but it has changed since and I do not recall what it is. One from Villa the other from Bishop Brossart. Don't get me wrong though doesn't bother me in the least that they transfered. I hope they are happy with their choices.
  19. I would agree talent wise she is the best in the 9th but that sometimes does not equate to being the best player. She does get frustrated and it seems she takes some plays off, but like you said most of these other girls have help on their team. None of them get double and triple teamed every game like "T" does. She is still a young lady and I know personally it does frustrate her for her team not to do well.
  20. Bowling is a Junior this year and has been playing since she was a freshman. Bradley is a Sophomore and has been playing since her Freshman year, and now there is Behrens who is a Junior. That makes 2 maybes if you want to get technical and 1 for sure in the last 3 years. About displacing a player on the bubble no one was cut to make room for these players. As it turned out last year Boone finished with only 14 players for Varsity and JV. Nell normally keeps 17 or 18
  21. I don't know where you are getting 5 transfers from. Our Sophomore guard came in her Freshman year if you call that a transfer. Then you have Behrens who did transfer this year. As of right now the starting 5 from last year minus one graduate will be the starters this year.
  22. Yes it would come down to how she did against those caliber of teams. I think they are alittle nervous after putting Haslock in the top 10 with all her great stats. Now she is no where to be found. But like I said I think she is an excellent ball player and a quaility person who gives her all every game.
  23. Amen brother. As far as shopping their kids around I think AAU is the worst of all. How many times will a girl switch from one team to another after a disappointing year, or they did not get as much playing time as they like, or they just did not get along with the coach. In most cases, and maybe not on your team CoachK, all it takes is the 350.00 to 450.00 the team requires each year. I have seen it to often they take the money from these kids wether they plan on playing them or not. Before everyone jumps on this let me say there are alot of good AAU coaches and teams that will turn down the money because they know that girl has no chance of playing. My daughter has played for some very fine AAU coaches and organizations for the last 6 years so I do have some expierience in this.
  24. I got mine at Krogers on Mt. Zion. Tabitha is a good player she played middle school with my daughter and they were and are still good friends. She just does not get the recognition because of the strength of schedule LLoyd has.
  25. I agree 100%. Nell, on several occasions, said she does not worry about who transfers and who does not. She coaches the girls that show up and want to play, and if a girl is inelligible she would not be allowed on her floor. So if the transfer bashers want to gripe E-mail the parents of the students who transfer and ask them if it bothers you that much or better yet E-mail the coach they are transfering from and find out why they are leaving, that would be a good place to start.
