#1 Lee opens against Owsley. I don't think anyone here is making excuses as to why they cant win a regional - only a few PCC fans are still in denial that they may not.

When Estill or Lee wins the region - I hope it is over your team.

Good win for the Owls. I thought Breathitt played a great game the time I got to see them....maybe I just seen a fluke. Though Smith and Neeley are great. Congrats to the Owls.

The final in a very entertaining matchup in Berea. Estill played smart all night long - and Berea just would never go away. Berryman lit it up and was just too much for the Pirates down the stretch. I have to say I'm a little disappointed with how the game ended. With Estill leading 68-58 with a couple of seconds to go - Berea threw in a short inbounds pass. An Estill player brushed by and the ref called a blocking foul setting up two free throws which would have gave me a perfect prediction. ....but on the last play of the game - Berea picked off the inbounds pass and got a last second lay up to give the final score of 68-62. Ah, so close.

I dont know who could consider these two teams the two worset in the 14th when you have teams like Riverside and Jenkins. They may not look good on paper - but I have seen Breathitt play tramendous basketball in the home gym - and Owsley has Neeley back who has already proved he can put up big numbers against about anyone. This could turn out to be an exciting game if both teams show up ready.

Yeah - there are such things as a good loss. Like Three Lions pointed out - when a team that isnt expected to give a big team a run for thier money - and just fall short...that could be considered a good loss. When a team has a tough loss and uses it to rechannel their energy and enthusiam ...and come out in the next game focused and ready - that could be considered a good loss.

So is there now a distinction on true All A schools? What's the number for true all A schools? :jump:

I would say that figure isnt that far off. If a freshmen class represents 35% of the school - that leaves about 21-22% to be scattered each among the three other grades. I happen to know that is there is around 150 (give or take 10) seniors at the school so that would mean the other two classes would have about the same number. Given that there is drop outs, movings in and out, withdrawls, etc, etc - I could see this number being correct. I'd have to talk to someone from the school to verify this though.

City may be down after blowing such a huge lead to Estill so late in a game. This could cause them to play badly at PCC or give them plenty of reason to play their hearts out. And they are going to need a lot to keep up with PCC.

That will lead to a very crowded field if everyone decides on joining. It could also be a very good precursor as to who the favorites to take region will be (more so than now.)

In my humble defense - I had this one posted a mere 4 seconds before the other one. I am not to blame. :banana:

....in a game won by a 1 of 2 free throw situation.

1. GRC - The same 4 or 5 ranked team that just beat Lafayett in Lexington. 2. Paul Dunbar - 10 of Dunbar's losses have came to ther 11th region powerhouses such as Lafayette, Bryan Station, and Henry Clay, etc with 2 more losses coming to Covington Catholic and Pendelton. 3. Lee County - hardly an impressive loss? Were have you been? Lee is 20-7 with a 14-3 region record...oh, and they beat 19-6 Lexington Christian by 20+ tonight. 4. Johnson Central is 8-3 at home this season and that game was a 2 point heartbreaker. 5. Florida Columbia was ranked 6th in Florida at the time Estill played them. The team from Tennesee was a Memphis Prep School - I'm sure they the teams that have beaten them were far above most schools in Kentucky basketball. 6. Montgomery County is always a tough win when they are playing at the barn. The only four games theyve lost at home was GRC, Mason, Pendelton, and Bourbon. 7. The loss was Madison Southern - not Southern. Madison Southern is a much more respectable 16-10. 8. Hazard - took them to OT. Came up short. Enough said. 9. Breathitt - Beaten up Dixon couldnt carry his team in this one. Lost it without focus.

Ahh - I was just posting as you would see in a line score. There's another thread that was posted around the time I posted this one - that may be more to your liking. :laugh:

I respect anyone who does the job - as I would not do it. The thing is - you just can rarely find a good one. I'm not dogging or digging at any specific refs - but highschool officiating is just...terrible for the most part. I wouldnt do it because of that reason. My awareness isnt what it used to be - so I would not try to ref a game when I wasnt capable. If it's possible we could compare it to brain surgery. You respect anyone who gives it a shot - but when it comes down to it - if it's your brain on the line - youre going to want the most qualified doing your operation. It's the same way in officiating. You want the most qualified to officate yours/your schools/ your kid's games and typically youre not going to get the most qualified - so it's easy to use that person as a nice fill in in the blame game. Again though - all that said...anyone who gives it a shot should be comended. They all got better gaul than I....and obviously better skills at blocking people out.

Well I really got to hand it to the players and coaches. The fans were pretty much dead for most of the game (except to let the officials know how horribly they called the game --- and this was justified). Estill played with the lack of energy and focus I seen in Jackson when the team lost handedly to Breathitt - and it was very interesting to see how they came back. The only starter who played a large chunk of minutes was Sophmore point guard Blake Christopher who is a good player - but not Estill's best scorer. We, in the crowd were wondering why Dixon didnt play more than he did. At first, we wondered if the back had given up on him - but he was getting up and being a great coach from the bench during the ralley brought on by the reserves....and then came in and played great the last few minutes of the game. I'm not sure if Tiller put the reserves in as a learning expierence or as a sign to his starting 5 - but they pulled off a miracle that seemed to shock everyone in the building (especially Jackson's fans and bench.) With Estill still down by 12 or 14 with about 3 minutes to go - the fans slowly made their way back into the game and when Reagan sunk a three from the baseline corner that pulled the team within 6 or 7 - the place really errupted. The rest of the game - the parent and student sections were both on their feet while Jackson's side seemed to slide further and further into their seats. It just really hit Jackson right in the gut - and they played with wrecked nerves to close out the game - and Estill just couldnt miss down the stretch. What an exciting game.

You want me to tell you what the difference is - LCC only beat Owsley 102 -55 which is only 47 points. This was only the first time all season LCC had scored 90 or more in a game. And Owsley has beaten June Buchanan this year as well....so this game wasnt a sure fire blow out like the 5 sure fire blow out games that JBS scheduled this season.....which by the way were win margins of 73, 80, 77, and wins of 97-63, and 98-49.

Very impressive win for Lee County. I chose Lee to pull out the win - but I sure wouldnt have guessed it would be a 21 point blowout. Just goes to show how tough Lee is - especially in Beatyville. Hats off to the Bobcats and Coach Wright!

I'll see if I can break this amazing game down. Estill come out, as Einstien said, and sucked it up for three quarters. They were missing everything they threw up, not blocking out, and really let Jackson City run at will - getting down by 20 several times. Going into the 4th quarter Estill was down by 20. Here's the real kicker. From about half way through the 2nd quarter until about 3 mins to go in the game - Clinton Dixon didnt play. That's right folks - Clinton Dixon wasnt involved in the inital come back - only the closing the game out. The come back was sparked by once again - freshmen Chris Hoover and Tristian Kacklan along with a huge lay up and three from senior reserve Zack Reagan. With the game tied with 40 some odd seconds to go Jackson threw an inbounds pass into the hands of senior reserve Austin Moore who delivered a big lay up that sent the Irvine fans into a frenzy. After that - Jackson played with obvious wrecked nerves. They had a few chances in the closing seconds to tie or take the lead but couldnt get a shot to fall and had 2 or 3 costly turnovers. Dixon came in off the bench and hit clutch free throws to give Estill the 5 point lead they would not reliquinch - and on the way back down the court came up with the steal which would allow Estill to hold onto the ball to finish the game. I noticed that #3 from Jackson city kept mouthing to Estill fans saying "scoreboard" and clapping at them everytime a call (good or bad) was made for Jackson....maybe bad karma played a role in Jackson's loss.

Final in a thriller from Irvine. (not 100% on the score - know it was in the 70's by 5 for Estill)

Best of luck to Lee tonight. I'm sure the Bobcats will have their paws full (*rimshot*) with LCA tonight - but I would not count them out by any stretch of the imagination. If one thing has been consistant in the 14th region this year - it has been Lee's ability to win in Beatyville. I will take Lee by 4.
