No, I didn't attend, but I predicted this game to be close, and it was. With a healthy Dixon Estill County probably wins this game. The 56th district might have the best two teams in the region in Lee and Estill. Hey.....Perry Central only beat a young Powell County team by 2, and that was after Powell had Perry down by 24.

How can Estill be considered a top 2 team when they just lost to Breathitt by 12? The strength of the region is still in the 54th with Leslie, Hazard, and Perry. Neither Lee nor Estill has a win over a top team in the region.

Estill took Hazard to OT tonight without a healthy Dixon who is - when healthy the best all around player in the region. They have a slew of experienced scorers and play great D - and are excellently coached.

Looks like Estill led most of the way opening up a double digit lead early....and were said to be playing very smart basketball. Something they lacked in their unfocused loss to Breathitt.

 

Hazard chipped away at the lead and tied it late in the game when a Hazard player smacked an inbounce pass into Dixons hands which was rulled a double dribble by the refs - which apparently got a disagreeing fan thrown out. So Hazard got an inbounds pass which was broken up by Berryman and stolen...but he could not get a shot off before the buzzer sounded sending this one into OT.

 

Then in OT - with Dixon on the mend - Estill just couldnt come up with decent shots and Hazard took control and pulled away in the end with the 8 point victory.

He was said to be confident to be about 90% tonight - but feeling sore on the ride back to Irvine. He has a scheduled visit with the Cumberland school and basketball program in the morning.

 

He will have a busy week this week with a second last home game with Jackson City and then a date with the pirates of Berea Friday - so we'll see if he can work his way to 100%.

2. Paul Dunbar - a lexington powerhouse who Estill lost to by 3.'

 

3. Lee County - missed a three to tie.

 

4. A series of losses at the Johnson Central tournament to hometown Johnston and Lee again.

 

5. Florida powerhouse Columbia

 

6. Tennesee Powerhouse Memphis Sheffield

I know nothing about this team but Im guessing they dont like LEE.

Estill may not be the favorite to win the 14th but I would sure hate to have to play them in the first round of the tourney. They can be dangerous. The first time I saw them they looked great and the next 3 times I have seen them they all seem to be a little selfish. Almost like there is some struggling within the team. Any Estill fans see this or know anything of this. It might just be me! If Estill played every contender in the 14th 10 times on a neutral floor I believe they win 65 to 70 percent of their games.

Well let's look at the wins. Owsley twice, Powell twice, Menifee Co., Bracken Co., Jackson Co., Cordia, Magoffin, Wolfe. Hardly any quality wins to speak of. Memphis Sheffield, the powerhouse from Tennessee is also only 11-13.

 

I'm sorry, but that is not one of the toughest schedules outside of the 11th region.

 

That being said I think that Estill County has a very good team and if they get by the Pirates I know that everyone in the region would hope not to draw them.

Estill does a have a solid team and a good team. But in my opinion they wont pull no shockers in the 14th because I dont see them getting past Powell in the 56th.
