How can Estill be considered a top 2 team when they just lost to Breathitt by 12? The strength of the region is still in the 54th with Leslie, Hazard, and Perry. Neither Lee nor Estill has a win over a top team in the region.

Its my understanding that Dixon spent much of that game bent over in pain with his back, which has been given him problems for a couple of weeks now. Estill has to have him at 100%.

He was said to be confident to be about 90% tonight - but feeling sore on the ride back to Irvine. He has a scheduled visit with the Cumberland school and basketball program in the morning.

 

He will have a busy week this week with a second last home game with Jackson City and then a date with the pirates of Berea Friday - so we'll see if he can work his way to 100%.

Dixon needs to skip the Cumberland College trip for a later date, and get to a doctor or a chiropractor.

How hurt is Dixon he played about the whole game last night, looks like a really good player.

 

Hazard also played almost the whole game (played about 2 and half min) without leading rebounder and energy guy Michael Campbell due to foul trouble.

I agree.....a ride to Cumberland and then back to Irvine before playing what is sure to be a tough game with Jackson City is going to be tough on a sore back.

Estill does a have a solid team and a good team. But in my opinion they wont pull no shockers in the 14th because I dont see them getting past Powell in the 56th.

 

That will rely heavily on that back of Dixon's...and which Engineer team shows up. When they are on their game - they can absolutely play incredible basketball...like the game with Cordia and the last quarter/OT with Powell....but when they dont come with the proper head - they play like they did in Breathitt.

I think Dixon is one of the best players in the region without a doubt. A class kid with a great winning attitude. A team player all the way. I hope him nothing but the best in the future :jump:

Well, you know he really is - which makes his untimely injury that much worse.

But if last night was any indication - the back seems to be getting better during game play (albiet the soreness afterwards.)

Adjusting to a new region? I bet that Estill is thrilled to be in the 14th as opposed to the 10th. No one in the 14th wants to play Brossart, Mason or Pendleton to get to the sweet sixteen.

I was impressed with Estill and they are a well coached team. They have a chance in the 14th but no chance in the 10th.

Well let's look at who those 12 losses came from.

 

1. Clark County who has one of the best players in the state in Preston Knowles and who would be heavily favored above any 14th region team.

 

2. Paul Dunbar - a lexington powerhouse who Estill lost to by 3.'

 

3. Lee County - missed a three to tie.

 

4. A series of losses at the Johnson Central tournament to hometown Johnston and Lee again.

 

5. Florida powerhouse Columbia

 

6. Tennesee Powerhouse Memphis Sheffield

 

7. Lee County in Beatyville

 

8. Montgomery @ Montgomery

 

9. Southern by 1

 

10. Hazard in 0T with an injured dixon

 

11. @ Breathitt with an injured Dixon.

3. Lee County - Hardly an impressive loss at home or away

5. Don't know about the Florida team but the Tennesee team is hardly a powerhouse at 11-13

6. Montgomery Co. - A decent 14-10, but no quality wins

7. Southern - They are 6-18 for goodness sakes

8. Hazard - A good showing for Estill

1. GRC - The same 4 or 5 ranked team that just beat Lafayett in Lexington.

 

2. Paul Dunbar - 10 of Dunbar's losses have came to ther 11th region powerhouses such as Lafayette, Bryan Station, and Henry Clay, etc with 2 more losses coming to Covington Catholic and Pendelton.

 

3. Lee County - hardly an impressive loss? Were have you been? Lee is 20-7 with a 14-3 region record...oh, and they beat 19-6 Lexington Christian by 20+ tonight.

 

4. Johnson Central is 8-3 at home this season and that game was a 2 point heartbreaker.

 

5. Florida Columbia was ranked 6th in Florida at the time Estill played them. The team from Tennesee was a Memphis Prep School - I'm sure they the teams that have beaten them were far above most schools in Kentucky basketball.

 

6. Montgomery County is always a tough win when they are playing at the barn. The only four games theyve lost at home was GRC, Mason, Pendelton, and Bourbon.

 

7. The loss was Madison Southern - not Southern. Madison Southern is a much more respectable 16-10.

 

8. Hazard - took them to OT. Came up short. Enough said.

 

9. Breathitt - Beaten up Dixon couldnt carry his team in this one. Lost it without focus.

Well let's look at the wins. Owsley twice, Powell twice, Menifee Co., Bracken Co., Jackson Co., Cordia, Magoffin, Wolfe. Hardly any quality wins to speak of. Memphis Sheffield, the powerhouse from Tennessee is also only 11-13.

 

I'm sorry, but that is not one of the toughest schedules outside of the 11th region.

 

That being said I think that Estill County has a very good team and if they get by the Pirates I know that everyone in the region would hope not to draw them.

 

Columbia was 9-0 and ranked 6th 4a in Florida when they played (They also have 2 wins against Gainesville High)

The Memphis School was Wooddale - not Sheffield as posted on the site - They have won over 50 games the past 2 seasons - They are also 4a
