No, I wouldn't think that Title 9 would have anything to do with it. It's up to the schools and coaches to decide if they want 2 or 3 officials. Some schools are willing to pay for the 3rd and some cannot pay for the 3rd. Some coaches like 2 man crews while others like 3. The officials' associations and assigning secretaries are pressing schools to always use 3 officials for varsity contests. Most schools use 3 officials during district contests now but hopefully in the future everyone will use 3 officials for everything.

I have a good one for you all........ See if you know this one....... Possession arrow points toward Team A. Team A #1 has possession of the ball when Team B #2 ties him up and the official indicates a "jumpball". After the official's call Team A #1 shoves Team B #2 and is assessed a technical foul for his actions. Ok, Team A is rewarded 2 FT's and a throw-in, BUT...... Who will have the possession arrow? The jumpball was called before the technical was issued. Will the arrow stay with Team A or be switched to Team B? Why?

That is a LEGAL play. Once the ball hits the ground anyone can grab it. Team A has the ball with a live possession and the possession arrow is set towards Team B. (NFHS Rule 4-28-3)

I also agree! With this situation, the regular season meant so little that they didn't even take the time to play! The regular season should mean something and the top district teams should be rewarded by seeding games.

As an official, I would never get the police involved to remove a coach and only in the most extreme situation ever use the police to escort a fan. Now game management may use the police to escort a fan out if he/she refuses to leave but I would leave that decision up to game management. If I have an fan who I feel needs to be removed from the gym then I inform game management(usually the AD) that I need the fan removed and then they are responsible for removing the fan. But as for coaches, if he/she refused to leave the court then I would forfeit the game.

Cubster is right, you could say that about most regions. I'm not saying that the region is strong but I think Elliott, Rose Hill, and East are very quality teams in this region or any other region. I'm not saying they would win every region but they are quality teams that can play, especially Elliott. The 16th region will only improve over the next few years with Elliott, Rose Hill, East, and Fairview all having bright futures. I don't think Boyd has too much coming up but I bet Zornes will find the talent somewhere. Ashland has some good young players coming up soon and will be a force in the region again as usual. Greenup also has young very talented kids who will be very good if they get the coaching to develope them. I hope things stabilize soon in the Greenhouse for their sake. I'm not sure what Bath has coming up but I'll bet that Hicks did his homework before heading to Owensville. He has the Lions' community excited again for the team and that will bring the kids out to play. So, if you think that the 16th region is weak now....stay tuned because teams are on the rise!!

That's all fine and dandy if you have enough officials to cover the games. Many places in this state do not have enough officials to cover the games. You are right, some officials are being brought up the ranks too soon but I don't thinks it's by choice. I don't think we have the problem in my area but many areas do. It's a big problem not only to get officials but to keep officials, especially quality officials. Why would anyone want to officiate? A rookie comes in and maybe has a bad game or misses a call and now his name is mud and plastered all over websites saying what an idiot he is and you wonder why there isn't enough good officials. Would you like that? I doubt it! New officials will one day be veteran officials but if they are ran off when they start then you'll never know. There are many problems for the shortage of officials but the main reason is fans. Fans gripe about the officials but it's their fault for the recruiting problem the associations face. Until people realize this, it will continue in many places. I officiate and I'll tell ya this, I don't do it for the money....I do it for the kids and my love of the sport. That's it! Fans love to gripe and complain about the food but they don't want to help cook it!

Great post! Even if you think that the official is horrible, if you respect them for the job that they do(and the official can tell) you will get alot further with that official than a coach who doesn't respect them.

A different capacity? That's not running up and down the floor or going to camps and clinics in order to train officials, I'd say. Assigning secretaries wouldn't talk like that, so what other capacity is there? Just wondering?

Perry Yates is the freshman coach at Russell, Todd Parsley is the JV coach. Are you sure it wasn't a freshman game you saw Kenny Clark call? Whether it was a JV game or freshman is irrelevant, the timing of the "T" is irrelevant. Are freshman and JV players immune from recieving a technical? Can a technical not be called at any point in the game? I'm sure that it was warranted if called by Kenny Clark, whether it was the in the 1st minute or last minute. A "T" can be called at any time and at any level.

Great win for the Royals!! Looks like Elliott had an off night from the field(28%). I'd say the Royal's defense had a bit to do with that but I'd also say that Elliott had an off night as well. I still think Elliott is the clear favorite when it comes regional time with all the experience they have in the regional tourney but I guess you now have to say that the armour has been pierced. I feel sorry for the next few teams that have to play Elliott! This region is still Elliott's to loose. The question I ask is can Rose Hill's supporting cast step up consistently game after game? They played a very tough schedule thus far and I think it will play off with the supporters the most. I definately think Rose Hill is the only one that can defeat Elliott come tourney time, if they're clicking on all cylinders like it looks at though they were tonight. Congrats to Rose Hill on a HUGE win!! Tonight, I do a little :dancingpa in your honor, I didn't think Elliott would loose a game in th 16th. Kudos!

Well, you can think what you want but it wasn't him. His son played at Russell that year. If you knew me you might not be arguing about this with me. But, you think what you want....you do anyway. I'm done arguing with you. This thread was meant to give some officials a bit of credit for the very difficult job they do but some people can't resist but to bash the officials. Try coming out and doing their job for one week or even one game, I think you would have different feelings about bashing the officials.

You may have a much more informed opinion about alot of things in this world, I don't argue that but I can bet that it's not officiating. I don't claim to known everything in this world and some would say I know little:D:D but I do know a bit about officiating.

I seriously doubt Bobby Hall is doing any JV games this year. He's the #1 rated official in the 16th and I haven't seen him do a JV in a very long time. Maybe it was another case of mistaken identity! :thumb:

I'm sorry but I disagree with you here. I think it's huge conflict of interest, even if it's done in secret. Your last statement, while I wish that were the case I really don't think it would. On the court the officials are working as a team but when you're competeing with someone for a certain position or playoff assignment, I think it then becomes a conflict of interest.

Are you sure about that? That is a pretty bold statement and somehow I doubt it very seriously. Unless you are pretty old, I'd say that there are quite a few people on here who have forgotten more ball than you've watched. Well, let me inform you on SOMETHING since you already know every thing ......... Watching basketball does not make you an expert on officiating.

Yeah, you're right about the bias system. That's the way that Ohio officials get their games as well. Instead of having the games assigned, you have to get your own games. I really don't see how that system could work. Now, I'd say that some or most school or coaches would want and have fair officials but there are always that small few who want every egde they can get and being able to pick and choose your officials is definately an advantage.

That's news to me about the not allowed to do games in the county in which he/she resides. I know that's not the case in most association and in fact I've nevered heard that before anywhere.
