I dont care what anyone says about coach dean he has made it to the finals of the region more times than i can count on one hand and has a million district championships. Just because his teams havent won the big one yet does not knock him out of the running for one of the best coaches in the region. I admit maybe last year in the finals his call in the 6th and 7th innings were very questionable. But what about the year before that in the finals vs. Hazard. The team that Coach Dean had was not very talented and that hazard team was an overwhelmingly good 14th region team they could flat out HIT. Powell would have struggled to beat them on there best day, you cant hold coach dean accountable for that, sometimes the team that you play is just better than you, and as a matter of fact i applaud coach dean for taking some of those teams as far as they could possibly go. Coach Dean will do a wonderful job at Letcher Central and in a few years you will see that they will become a great team assuming he stays. Coach Dean is definitely in my top 3 of best coaches in the region. :thumb:

yea bowling and smith are good hitters for there team but i think only bowling from those two could be considered for best hitters in the region. havent never really seen bowlings ability (or lack there of) to go to the opposite field, but if you give him an inside pitch he will absolutely hammer it.

i kinda like the way things are right now but you cant argue whenever your chances of winning the state championship are now 4x greater, sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

wow...that is amazing though, im proud of steve and i hope he continues to pitch well. striking out the side against the #1 team in the nation is definitely something he can use to build his confidence regardless the outcome of the game and the L. :thumb:

well congratulations to steven on the big start hopefully it is a succesful one and i wish him the best of luck, hopefully we will be hearing more good things out of you.

Obviously powell has a quality secondbaseman that can help out at that position, but as for replacing everyone i feel like the only ones that will be tough to replace are there CF that could hit, and banjo on the mound. As for behind the plate they have a new catcher that is better defensively IMO than last years catcher. He can also hit a bit. RF will not be hard to replace, they have a boatload of outfielders which will also help replace their CF.

i saw blevins play at lawrence last year from shortstop it looked like he had a cannon. does anyone know how fast he can throw?

Yea i agree they lost a lot of good talent but they have a great coach and from what i heard and saw last year i think they will be alright, i like the way they play baseball.

yea, they have like 2 day tryouts i think and then when the basketball players come out there is a re-evaluation i believe but im not sure about that.

Riley Hendrix from Leslie really impressed me last year. Colten King and Keenan Muncie from Powell, Corey Thomas from Lee, Jason Bowling from Owsley. Im sure Estill has a few guys that can hit, and im sure im forgetting many others.

I just dont see the point in lifting all fall and winter when your bench is 245 and then you get to regional tournament time and its back down to 200. What does that help, you should maintain your strength throughout the whole season or else all the conditioning is meaningless.

Did Tre play last year, if so what position did he play?

well from what i saw last season powell had guys ready to take the field at any position if need be so im not sure but as of last years team assuming theres no new players or anything it would be: 1B- Colten King (started last year) 2B- Snowden (pinch hit last year) SS- Keenan Muncie (started last year) 3B- Cory Brewer (started last year) C- Pelfrey (caught j.v. last year) OF- Logan King, Ryan, Daniel Kinser (started), Halfacre: outfields kinda wide open i would say P- Muncie, Benningfield, Brewer, Proffit, Kinser I think Estill lost their ace and one of there best hitters so im not sure about them and about hazard i have no clue

I believe that lee co. pitched an 8th grader in that game and knott only beat them by 1 or 2. i think with thomas or osborne on the mound it would have made a slight difference. but taking nothin away from combs and hammonds they are both good coaches.

Not so true. In the regional tournament you really only need 2 pitchers. Why not let Osborne or Thomas shut Knott down for 5 innings let the little guy come in, in the 6th and hold them off. Not just taking away innings from knott but gives hitters confidence that their lock down pitcher is on the mound to back them up. Whoever didnt pitch against Knott goes against PCC for all 7 assuming they win again they have Osborne or Thomas again on the mound in the regional finals with as good as a chance to win as anybody.

With the season getting closer and closer each day who is everyone going to be playing on opening day?

i dont know just hard to believe. not many teams have two guys throwing mid 80's from the way it sounds you should be able to win region if you just get 1 run up on the board.

im gonna have to go with estill by 4 68-72

your right about that should be a great year.

thats the way that i think it should be. especially if you are strictly baseball and are dedicated to the sport. If you want to win its simple work as hard as you can and for as long as you can even if it means all the way in august. I mean you cant argue with boyd county's results
