  1. You have to find away around the Redbook so coaches and administrators can attend. The middle sections should be full no matter what teams are playing and they are not. Not a lot of coaches and AD's are attending anymore. Coaches and Ad's used to get professional development days to attend. Now they have to use personal days. If you don't have any personal days and you use sick days it throws up a red flag and you may have to provide proof for use of sick days. Hotel cost are High. The Hyatt requires you to stay the whole time around $1300- $1500 for the week. Other hotel rooms may be cheaper but then you have to take a cab or pay for parking each day. The event has also dragged out during games. Im ok with the awards that go on but 25-30 minutes in between games and 15 minute halftimes are too long. A lot of fans head to the exits to watch NCAA games instead of waiting around to watch the last sessions late game.
  2. If you want kids to get all state votes you need to schedule games around the state. If you only play in your area coaches in other areas may not see you play. So should they vote for kids on stats or who they actually have seen. Doesn't the Couriers ballot say vote for the 10 best players you have seen play. I will guarantee you Carson Williams got a lot of votes from the Louisville area playing in the KOB. He was the talk of the tournament. Some coaches don't get to see some players until the state if they make it and ballots have already been sent out before. For coaches that don't vote that's just pure laziness and un professionalism. Courier Ballot has a self addressed stamp on it.
  3. I've said this before on here and no one seems to hear it. JCPS basketball has become an aau system. Not much professionalism at all anymore. It started when they took away the restriction of having to be a teacher to be a head coach. If your not willing to seek transfers or take transfers you are not going to win. I would be willing to bet that most coaches who do this are miserable. Promises that cant be kept lead to transfers.
  4. Match ups have always been an issue and will continue to be. In the past there were still better crowds for those games. Doss didn't bring anyone but there still shouldn't have been empty seats in the middle section for Doss/Taylor Co or Doss/South Laurel. Those were good games that should attract those fans. The middle section was empty all week. The state tournament needs a format change. competing against UK, NCAA tournament, games on social media, over exposure of players(don't have to go to state anymore to see certain kids), and the Redbook. Trust me the Redbook and schools not paying the bills anymore for coaches, administrator's, and families is hurting. Saw a lot less of coaches than ever before this year. Heck I would just like to see the games speeded up. 30 minutes between games and 15 min halftimes makes me head to the Hyatt to watch NCAA games. I was at the state tournament all week and struggled to go to games just not as exciting as it once was.
  5. Hill was ruled ineligible twice. Family hired a lawyer and threatened lawsuit and he became eligible. It shouldn't matter anyway if you move back to your Home school if you initially choose a school that is not your district. Transfers are not supposed to be for athletic reasons. We all know this was about athletics.
  6. He will be ruled eligible. If a Kid can play 5 games in December at Fern Creek transfer to PRP and be eligible by post season this will be rubber stamped at any school in Louisville.
  7. Maybe Gatewood is going to Ballard. Every year Renner looks for an AD job. Maybe he found one.
  8. I liked the old format. Fairdale's 91 back to back team was honored for their 25th anniversary win Saturday night. They basically won it playing three games in a 24 hour period. Played the late game on Friday night, the second semi-final on Saturday morning, and the Finals Saturday night at 8:00pm. Takes a great team to do that. I would like to see the games speeded up 25 minutes in between games and 15 min half times takes forever. Need to move it the week before the NCAA starts. If I'm not interested in the second game I usually head to the Hyatt to watch the tournament games. Not gonna wait around that long. Just my thoughts.
  9. State tournament talk is sexual assault. Harper was asked to suspend them and didnt. Evidently video has surfaced of the alleged incident
  10. I agree with a lot of what you are saying. AAU is the new problem. Fern Creek and Waggener have had some recent success but to my knowledge they don't have any history of winning regional titles in basketball. The Legends and their coach show up at Waggener and The Spiece Gators show up at Fern Creek and they start having success. I believe Doss has an assistant that coaches in aau. Problem is when things don't go the kids way they transfer just like in aau. Is it worth the success dealing with the head aches that it brings? Legends aau coach sits behind Waggener's bench. Sometimes its hard to tell who's coaching. Im not criticizing the coach for it, but you better be able to deal with the problems. I just think its easy for coaches in Louisville to get frustrated and say its not worth it and get out. Just when you think you are ready to challenge the powers your kids transfer and JCPS rubber stamps it. The state tournament is when you find out more about who's in and out. Looking forward to some great games this week
  11. East starting the game hitting three threes in a row came back to haunt them. All they wanted to do was shoot threes. Didn't do enough to get Sharpe open. Stood around the perimeter most of the night. East never looked inside to Pharris. He seemed to score every time he touched it down low. Doss did a nice job on offense being patient and making East guard them.
  12. would like to see Taylor Co vs North Hardin
  13. Louisville area has become almost impossible to keep coaches. Some schools that have numbers(enrollment) are doing fine. A lot of hires are no longer teachers. The jobs they are getting in the buildings do not pay much. A lot of work for little pay. In Louisville you have to be out there and connected to aau organizations or your not getting talent. Some coaches are not willing to spend every weekend chasing 5th-8th graders. A lot of soul selling in Louisville that has backfired. Kids come in with high hopes and it doesn't happen immediately they transfer. JCPS seems to be allowing transfers. Hard to build programs when you can start off playing at one school and finish at another in the same year. For the record, Unless there is a health issue or his assistants get out of it, I see coach Mabrey staying forever at PRP.
  14. Final. Can anyone post the video of the 75ft shot at the buzzer that Ballard tied it with?
  15. Some times transfers can hurt your team. I saw where the Hill kid played a lot of minutes last night. Stats were good but I wonder how that went with their chemistry and team. I would say a couple of kids that had been playing went to the bench. PRP plays a lot of match up in their press and half court. Not always easy to pick up in a few games.
  16. PRP usually plays a weak schedule. I still thought they were playing really good at the right time. Desale's can shoot and can give you trouble with their 3-2 matchup zone. This is why I don't gamble especially when young kids are involved. I'm done with the predictions and analysis and just going to enjoy some good basketball the next few days. Good luck to the rest of the teams alive.
  17. I'm picking a Doss/PRP final with PRP winning the region. Mabrey is the best at game planning for a big game. He will come up with something that Doss hasn't seen and pull it out. Wouldn't be surprised to see North knock off East at home in the first round. Desales always plays good against PRP and will keep it close. Would like to see a PRP/East match up. Just not sure they will get past North.
  18. Im picking PRP to win the 6th. Coach Mabrey always has them ready at tournament time. He will out prepare the other guys. Reason he has won close to a 1000 games. His staff knows how to prepare for big games
  19. Hearing Hill is now eligible for PRP how does that effect things? They are playing as good as anyone in the region right now. Gotta love the aau feel in Louisville now. Not happy at one school up and transfer in the middle of the year and play at another school.
  20. Not supposed to be able to coach your players until schools is out then you can. This includes anyone on staff that is paid or a representative of the school. You can however coach your son or daughter on a team.
  21. A big problem for all teams is scheduling your season around the LIT. All JCPS schools are required to play in it if qualify. Refusing to play causes you a ban for a couple of years. Coaches have to decide how many games to leave for the LIT. Lets say a Ballard leaves 4 games for it thinking they can make the finals and get upset in first rd. They will have to fill 3 games on their schedule which is tough to do at this time. Also if you only leave two games and you play well and make the semi finals, you could be over 1 game and have to cancel a game leaving a team without a game.
