Yes, Travis is the younger brother of Cody Elliott from Beechwood.

From what I saw at some of the summer games, Boone looked good, even without Downs and McCreary playing (they played JV). Ryle also looked pretty good. Dixie was OK, but I think they were playing some of their younger kids (I could be wrong about that). I know many of the summer games don't have all of the players, so it is hard to go by. It is difficult to say this early because you never know who will make the team as Freshman and who will be pulled up to JV/Varsity. That will make a difference in the freshman teams. As 8th graders, Gray was really good. Tichenor won the NKAC championship. They have some talent, but are inconsistent at times. Ockerman and R.A. Jones finish out the Final Four and will both pretty much combine into one team at Boone. I was also impressed with Campbell County and Highlands 8th grade teams last year. Turkeyfoot 8th grade team was also supposed to be pretty good (I didn't have a chance to see them play though).

Boone Freshman defeated Simon Kenton 18-6. They also defeated Lloyd 14-7.

Boone lost an impact player on both sides of the ball to injury two weeks ago. Boone's Mullins had knee surgery last week and is out for the rest of the year. I pray for him to have a full recovery and come back strong next year.

Trevan Brown and Travis Montgomery may see some varsity minutes at Boone. Kevon Arnold at Holmes is pretty good too.

From what I understand, the KHSAA rules for four consecutive years does not start until a player is enrolled in 9th grade. In Boone County, the middle schools do not have football teams, so some of the more talented players sometimes play freshman ball with the high school. However, this thread was about incoming 9th and 10th graders who are good football players. Now, with Ryle being a large football school, Elliott will probably not play varsity, be he is still an exceptional player. I saw him play against Boone freshman last year and he was unstoppable. I think he ran for a lot of yards and had at least 3 touchdowns. This was as an 8th grader, so I'm assuming that as he gets older and matures, he will be a player that a lot of people will be talking about. He did play JV after freshman ball was over, but he I don't think he played much at all.

I agree. I saw this happen this past year. The middle school in our district requires that athletes play in the grade they are in for conference games. There was a 6th grade student who wanted to play for the 8th grade. When he was told he couldn't do that because of league by-laws, his parents moved him within the next few weeks to a Scott County middle school where he played on the 8th grade team as a 6th grader! So, if the KHSAA continues to rule kids ineligible due to transfering in high school, I'll bet that you will start to see kids move in middle school to the feeder of the school they want to play sports for in high school.

Even though Arnold is not playing for the Shining Stars teams, he is still IMO one of the top prospects in NKY. He has been playing with a 17U team with a couple of the seniors-to-be from Holmes, which IMO will help him develop. He is playing against bigger and stronger players than he normally would if he played in his age group. He also works pretty hard and has some pretty good seniors guiding him along. He may surprise some people next season for Holmes.

How did the Elliott kid do at Ryle this year? I know he went 2-4 in last night's championship game against NCC. I know he was a tremendous football player on the freshman team this past year and was wondering how he looked playing baseball.

He has improved a lot, and will continue to do so. He is playing on a select team with several JV/Varsity players (mostly from Holmes/Boone) which has helped him tremendously. It's one thing to be able to play with kids your own age, but it's something different to play with/against kids with Varsity experience. He is also getting some individual workouts in and when summer gets here he will increase that. Probably the best thing about him is that he is a great kid.

Yes that's him. Sorry spelled the name wrong. He is a big body and can shoot from anywhere.

Joscelyn Davis from Boone is a nice player.

Probably the two best I saw were Zane McCreary and Cooper Downs. Those two will both be at Boone next year. Another player who is starting to look good is JR Doss. His 8th grade year was his first year of organized basketball. He is 6'4 and athletic. He has been playing this summer with some high school kids and is starting to look really good. He will join McCreary and Downs at Boone.

Don't get the wrong opinion, he is a very good shooter, just IMO he is not one of the best players in the state at this time. However, he can be an asset to any team.

Ok, this is definately not accurate. I don't want to take anything away from Flannery, but he is not one of the best sophomores in the state. He wasn't even in the top three at Boone. Earls, Popp, and Gabbard all started for Boone and Cotton, another sophomore, started ahead of him in a few games and was pretty much 1st or 2nd off the bench. Flannery is a good shooter, but that's about it.

OK I answered my own question by going to the KHSAA website. Henry Clay wins over Boone 80-73.

I agree. Jordan often goes unnoticed behind Brown and Montgomery, but he is a good player. He is sort-of a blue collar player. You will always see him box-out and do the little things, but also can drop 15-20 points on you on any given night and come up big for you in the clutch.

Any updates on the games from Saturday?

I'm not sure about all of the rules regarding AAU, but is that allowed? I thought I head somewhere that you are only able to have 3 players from the same school on an AAU team. Maybe that is only in Ohio?

I believe #22 is Travis Montgomery. He is a nice all-around player. I didn't see the game, but I am not surprised that he kept making his free throws. He is definitely a clutch player.

I was watching a game today and a player went to save a ball out of bounds and tried to throw the ball off of a player from another team so her team can retain possession. Heads up play, right? That's what I thought but the referee called a technical foul on the player. I couldn't believe it. There was no warning and it was within the first two minutes of the game. Is that really supposed to be a technical?
