Big Game Player

:thumb:Here at Owsley County doesn't take this offensive coming from a team that has only won one more game that us (5 compared to 4...WOW!!!).

Let him play. There were an instance a couple years back with our freshman team when we took our team to the opposing team's gym and had a varsity starter that was a true freshman. He went just to go with his future team and show support. The varsity coach told the freshman coach not to play him. Shortly after arriving the opposing team's coach came over and boasted about how many games they had one againest some of the larger counties in the region and how they were gonna take it easy on them. The varsity coach becomes aware of this by a phone call from the frshman coach and the varsity coach gives the go ahead. After rounding up a pair of shoes and a jersey the varsity player plays most of the game, dropping 25 pts while dishing out numerous assists and was able to get everyone involved. Several of the players got into double digits scoring because the focus was around the varsity stater and he passed well.That team won by 12. IMO without the varsity starter they loose. He went on to only play againest opponents that were a challenge. IMO let him play, helped him and the team's chemistry, they went on to win the freshman tournament. The team's senior year they won distric tournament at the varsity level. Worked out for us and that team clicked from then on out. A lot of times when a player starts for 4 years that player doesn't get to play with his senior class all at one time because we all know its not everyday that a freshman(especially an entire freshman team) starts all 4 years of varsity

I agree, Lee could never pull away once they got a 10pt lead. Breathit never gave up. I would say that Lee's percentage of shooting is much higher at home than on the road. Should be a good game come the trip Estill.

In the varsity game the owls came out and looked for a promising game. After #2 knocked down 2 quick 3's and then number 13 got hot(he finished 5for7 from 3pt line for the game) perry started pulling away. I believe Perry hit around 9+ three pt shots for the game. Perry's defense bothered the Owls, not so much as turnovers but as just knocking down the easy shots that should of been knocked down.

They subbed but as far as just putting in the bottom half at one time they never did. Timmy Murrell got into early foul trouble by picking up 2 in the first quarter so sit out the entire 2nd quarter. They were down 24 at half due to hot shotting and hustle plays made by Perry. 2nd half with Murrell back in the game and some conflicts within the team addressed and resolved the Owls JV was able to pull it down to a 10 pt game by the end with both teams starting 5 playing the majority of the 2nd half. Looked like the Owls put 2 different teams on the floor between the 1st and 2nd half. Perry does have some nice young talent coming up.

Big win for June B witout Cox. Add Blank to Buckhorn and they may be able to hold the halftime lead they had in this game. But on the other hand if June B had Cox then Buckhorn probaly doesn't have a halftime lead. Goodluck to both teams the rest of the way.

I'll take Hazard in a close one. IMO it being at Perry doesnt hurt Hazard and Cox being out could be the deciding factor in a win or lose.

Just goes to show how good Cordia is. I know Wolfe isn't top five in the region but Coach Creech's teams won't just roll over and give up. Congrats onteh win and goodluck throughout the rest of the tournament and season.

Big win for Estill. Looks like Lee is playing Powell at Powell for the first game in Distric Tournament.

Owsley is improving and will continue to improve under Coach Noble. This team has came leaps and bounds since the beginning of the season. Buckhorn tonight was just the better team. Owsley got the same type of pressured shots that Buckhorn got , its just that Owsley hasn't adjusted all the way to the physicality and game speed yet to finish around the basket when that type of pressure is applied. It was a very physical game and Buckhorn performed well under pressure all night long, knocking down the big shot or coming up with the hustle play when needed. Zack Gay is a nice player and does a great job leading that team. Buckhorn never got in a drought but when they offense seem to slow down or the defense pressure eased up Zack seem to bring the team back together and come up with the Big Game play.Buckhorn only made two field goals in the 4th. I believe they got 13pts from the line. Big win for the Buckhorn and goodluck with the rest of the tournament. Even though our Owls didn't win ,imo Owsley pride is starting to show up again in the players eyes, especially in the younger players. Timmy Murrell plays as hard or harder than any kid I've seen all year and can tell a difference wach time he is on the floor.

Should be a good game. It being at Estill will be an advantage but should be a good night of basketball with the guard matchup. I'll take Estill by 8

He did not play tonight but he just wanted to rest up an extra night and is expected to play next game againest either Owsley or Buckhorn. And yes Professor they will need him to reach Richmond. This team becomes a different team without their MVP in Cox.

Congrats Hazard for the win. Lee IMO is one of the top 5 teams in the region. This team has the size and shooting capability of beating a Hazard or a June B. They have a solid pg, a leader that loves to score, role player that can knock down a jump shot and a big banger down low that can rebound and has his days scoring with his back to the basket. I have watched Lee play early in the season and then last week and was impressed with Coach Wright's team and how much they have improved over the season. IMO, Lee is the favorite in the 56th if they get the number 1 spot with Estill right there with them, Powell isn't far behind and will more than likely win since it is at Powell so getting the number one spot is a must(I think Estill may already have it but I'm not for sure), and Owsley is capable of pulling off another upset like the one last year againest Lee because they are playing with the other three teams in the distric they just cant find a way to win. I predicted this game to be under 8pts because it was at Lee. At Hazard and at this time in the season I would take Hazard by 10+. Give Lee some more experience and let them find a way to play on the road as good as they do at home and they can compete with June B or Hazard. Good win for Hazard and Goodluck to both teams on down the road.

The 14th it is still great. For example this year in the boys the top two teams are in the All A and people may be able to see these two teams play each other for a good game of basketball. It also gives teams a chance to pull off an upset and could be a big confidence boost for them. It also shows that a small school can compete with schools their size. As far as loosing the All A, especially being a favorite is should inspire the team to work hard. Winning the All A or competing for the All A can be used for a confidence boost in which most of the time the best teams are in the All A in the 14th. A team that isnt suppose to win a game goes in and knockes off a top seed then this could make the season and give them the confidnece needed to compete. For example a year or two ago a team knocked off one of the top two teams in the All A and that made their 4th win in the season. Loosing the next game and most of the rest until districs. This team went in to distric as a 4th seed and knocked off the number one team. Got them into region with 5 wins. Things happen and a team can never give up. If the coach gives up then the season is already over.

Tough loss for the Owls. They just seem never to get going and get settled in. Offense still seems to be a struggle most of the time for the Owls. Owsley seemed to have a little spurt of energy and cut into a 15 point lead when the Owls pulled their 6th and 7th player off the bench. Good win for Lee for playing a more slow pace (Lee's Pace)due to Lee rotating the ball and then was able to get 2nd chance points and put backs all night after dominating the boards. I believe that Lee will now play Wolfe Wednesday.

I'm taking Estill in this one. Powell is always hard to beat at home but Estill's guards seem to be able to handle the pressure. Estill by 7

Congrats to these teams for breaking top 25, hope they keep climbing. As to top in the nation, it must be more of a BCS like ranking because a couple years back in the girls the Jackson County when they were tough were ranked like top 5 in the country but was ranked 2nd in the state. I didnt understand this then and still don't exactly understand now. In the boys a couple years ago, Perry Central was ranked number 1 in the Mountains and Hazard 2.Perry was also ranked first in the region and Hazard was 2nd but Hazard broke the top 25 in the state and Perry hadn't, still I stay very confused.

If so then this may become a factor next week in the All A Classic. Any updates on him?
