Some photos from this morning’s Tiger Thanksgiving practice, complete with a few dozen players from past teams, ranging from Class of ‘65 on up to Class of ‘22. Lots of banter and trash-talk about whose team would have beaten whose team. Another link in the chain. Very, very rewarding morning for Tigers past, present, and future.

It should come as a shock to noone, but the Tigers have lost two more starters to season-ending injury. Coach Clark has diligently recruited the kid with the acne problem from third period French and the overweight bassoon player from the band to replace them . . . Seriously, I never in all my years playing or watching have ever seen anything like this.

Bardstown is the second-lowest enrollment 3A school, if memory serves. We are always on the watch to see if they drop us to 2A.

Will he be joining us in Bardstown Friday to cover Mason County vs. Bardstown? If so I will have a pork chop sandwich ready for him in the booth!

Bardstown's 5'5" junior running back, Tyleeq "Ty Ty" Williams, has 1,478 yards rushing on 154 attempts for 20 TD's on the season, to go with 27 receptions for 431 yards and 5 scores, 2 punt returns and 1 kickoff return for TD's. That is after not becoming the primary ball carrier until week 5. He went for 237 yards and 3 TD's on 18 carries against Union County Friday night. We at Bardstown feel strongly he should be considered an all-state selection this season and given early consideration as a potential Mr. Football candidate entering his senior year next year. Tiger senior wideout "Baby" Shannon Tonge became the school's all-time career receptions leader (he already held the career mark for yardage) Friday night. He has 36 catches for 714 yards and 10 TD's this season, and 101 for his career. Senior QB Brayden Clark has completed almost 81% of his passes this year for 1,319 yards and 14 TD's against just 2 interceptions. This despite being sidelined for 6 weeks with a broken collarbone. Clark waited patiently behind his predecessor, Brady Clark (no relation), for 3 seasons before stepping into the role this year, and is the unquestioned field general and leader of this Tiger team.

I voted for the Bowling Green/Southwestern game, but I think Male/Ballard will also be a slugfest. Athletes all over creation at that one.

Just a heads up for Royals fans, the “Light Up” Bardstown event, where the city turns on the Christmas lights for the entire downtown from the courthouse Square and in the middle of town down the various roads, is scheduled for 6-8 PM on Friday. They shut down the roads downtown starting at about 5:00 or so. The school and field IS accessible from both exits off the BG, but it will crowded. Plan accordingly.

Spot on. Bardstown maintains a 24:1 ratio and has kids from Nelson County on a waiting list to get in. There is discussion about going to 25:1 but it’s delicate. Low classroom ratio is a huge sell for me.

Next man up. Tigers lost Senior two-way starter Logan McMillan-Grundy in the second quarter with a knee injury. His status unknown for next week. Tigers plugged in sophomore Tykeem Taul-Williams to cover, and he proved to be a very good downfield blocker for freshmen insert Sevyn Hamilton, who ran for two TD’s filling in for Ty Ty Williams, who was pulled out in the 3rd quarter when Union began dragging him down by the horse collar. We hadn’t seen Hamilton since blowout wins over John Hardin and Marion County earlier this year. On defense, they flexed junior linebacker Kyan Lydian to McMillan’s strong safety spot, and inserted freshmen Devin Newsome, a special teams coverage artist, at linebacker. He promptly had a sack and a defended a pass. Again, the staff has really done a stellar job of prepping the whole package instead of just the first string.

90 was Joey Downs’ first season. It was rough sledding, the Tigers went 1-10. ‘91 they started winning at some point, ran into Craig Yeast and Harrodsburg and lost in 3 OT in the playoffs, and finished 7-5. Bardstown went to Class A state in ‘92 and ‘93, losing to Beechwood both years.

It will be our pleasure to welcome the Royals to the Bourbon City. I honestly don’t know much about Mason County. I would love to be enlightened. It looks like a huge roster, a senior-laden starting lineup of skill position players, and what appears to be a balanced attack. What else?

Now THAT is impressive.

They didn’t really play bad, per se, but they failed to score twice inside the 5, and allowed a clock-chewing 99 yard drive. However, I think the principal reasons for last weeks rust was that we hadn’t really played anyone in 6 weeks (including 2 idle weeks), and we also had our QB back for the first time in 6 weeks and he was literally cleared two days before.

Tigers defense held Union to -15 yards rushing, forced 3 turnovers and Union threw the ball a jaw-dropping 60 times. Score was 40-13 at halftime and Bardstown pretty much gave up the middle and the sidelines in the second half.

There are no primma donnas. These players legitimately enjoy watching one another succeed. The seniors like the freshmen and vice versa. They aren’t just friends, they fellowship with one another. I also disagree about the talent. Shannon Tonge broke the all-time record for career receptions tonight. And Ty Ty Williams is a legitimate superstar packaged in a 5’5” frame. If he is not being considered for at least second team all-state, then there is something wrong with the sports media.

And this year, some blue collar lineman to boot. Shout out Chandler Newby, Aidan Riley, Hunter Morgan, Kris Sauter, John Floyd, Ryder Meredith, Blake Werner, Tyler Harmon. You all mauled people tonight.
