Interesting, I've heard no such rumors. They are one of the smallest 3A schools, even under the new realignment.

CAL, Central, Desales, Bardstown, Thomas Nelson. Ouch!?

Using the JCPS chart above, the top pay (I'm assuming stipend) for a head high school football coach is $7,930. let's say that you are ONLY talking about from when the dead period is over to around mid-November, when most teams have been eliminated. That is 4 months. that's $1,980 per month. Divided by 4.2 that is $470 per week. Now let's say this head football coach is doing the BARE MINIMUM, which is to say 3 hours of prep and practice per day, a 5 hour day on Friday, and maybe 10-15 other hours per week watching film, coaches meetings, organizing buses, making schedules, dealing with parents and trainers, player discipline, grade, and other issues, etc., we will say 30 hours per week. We all know that its likely double that, but just call it 30. that's $15.67 per hour. The Bardstown McDonald's is currently paying $15 per hour with a $500 sign-on bonus if you commit to staying 2 months. So, basically what we are saying is that Chris Wolfe, the head football coach at Male who just competed for a state championship, is valued the same as a short order chef at McDonald's (less when you include the McSign-On Bonus). And, of course, we know that being a head high school football coach is more than just 4 months out of the year.

Now I, personally, have no presuppositions about what private school coaches make. I really don't know. People were throwing around all kinds of grandiose figures, but they don't really know. However, there is no restriction on what a private school could choose to pay, is there?

See, I was not aware that chart existed. So the head coach at Male makes the same as the head coach at Western to be the head coach of the varsity football team? Is there a restriction/cap on the number of assistant coaches a given school may choose to employ?

Lloyd really throws things out of whack. They are the only remotely 3A "Nothern Kentucky" team. I have a tough time seeing them being required to come down to Louisville twice a season, or the Louisville teams go all the way up there. Also, there seems to be a "division of Louisville" component in the other classes, such as never putting Trinity and St. X in the same district, and I could see that possible happening here, making sure that Central and CAL are not in the same district.

I don't know that I've ever seen a thread on this before. I would like to know what everyone thinks/knows about the average head coach and assistant coach salary/pay/stipend to coach high school football is, or, if they know, what it is at their school. If a public school, that information may well be public information, although I can see where what the specifics are may be rolled into a total pay figure if the coach is also a certified/classified employee at the school as well. However, private schools of course do not have to publish that. Corollary question, developed in discussion in the stands while we were getting our tails kicked in the state title game, how much money is paid to Hunter Cantwell, Doug Beaumont, Chris Redman, Keith Towbridge, and Bilal Powell (middle school head coach) to coach at CAL?

I still think there is a lot of wild cards. For example, right now Mercer County plays with the Louisville schools and we haven't named them here. Also, whether Central asks to play "up" may depend on whether Hunter Cantwell & Co. is still at CAL. If Brohm takes a job at Louisville and brings in several of the coaches from CAL, it changes the landscape a bit.

Better than being in the same district. Also, at home. Have to beat them sooner or later. Just need to up our game.

Obviously we have concern that they are going to create a super-district in 3A out of Central, CAL, Desales, and Bardstown.

Disappointed in the performance but very proud of the Tigers and really enjoyed the ride. This was tremendous for the whole town. CAL is well coached and fundamentally sound. Bardstown returns 7 starters on offense including Ty Ty Williams and 8 starters on defense. Disagree with the remark that “the real 3A championship was 2 weeks ago” etc. they lost to a team we dropped 66 on, so . . .

Our female kicker may get her own deal. She’s been on WDRB, WLKY, 2 podcasts, KSR. When she came in to the elementary school today, she signed autographs for little girls for 10 minutes. Total rockstar.

The full pageantry of being in a state title game in a small town is on display in Bardstown. Tiger Walk through all 5 of the campuses today, courthouse lit purple and gold, signs in all the business windows. None of these kids were alive the last time we were in a title game. It’s magic.

Clark missed 6 weeks with a broken collarbone.

She kicks the extra points and field goals, but not kickoffs.

On a separate, but kinda cool, note: it is believed that Bardstown kicker Tate Blincoe will become the first female ever to play in a Football championship in state history.

Technically, most of our lineman and linebackers only play one way. Morgan is a two-way starter, and Kaden Stone starts at middle linebacker and fullback. Ferrell had to play both linebacker and tight end while Nalley was out with a concussion, but he is back now. Most every other player starts one side and probably only gets spot plays the other way. The secondary is a concern. We had lost both starting corners the week before, and had to do quick subs. One of them was the QB, Clark, who had not played any D since September 30. He drew several of the PI’s. It is what it is. On another note, Mason’s QB was only 7-25 passing for 85 yards, so other than the PI’s we defended pretty well. Agree that Hodge is a stud, though.

If you watch the Ashland game, CAL looks like world-beaters, but in my view Ashland went for it on 4th down at least 3 times in their own territory and did not pick up a first down. If you watch the Paducah Tilghman game, CAL looks good but not invincible, and PT had several drives where they moved the ball and 2 or 3 chances to win that game. They were hurt by kick returns, that blocked punt before half, and an inexplicable desire to always throw the ball deep when perfectly good receivers were wide open in the middle.

Am I able to register a membership and then share it with my son at the Naval Academy? I am going to the game live, but he would like to watch his two brothers play.
