State Finals Quarterbacks 2022

Featured Replies

As I was looking at stats of players in the finals, I could not help but notice the quarterbacks. The stats of these finals quarterbacks are outstanding. Some of these players most of us don't know but the quality in these numbers cannot be denied.

1A

Raceland - Jr. Logan Lundy, 62.2% completions, 2,213 yards, 158 yards per game, 34 TD's, 8 INT's, 388 yards rushing

Pikeville - So. Isaac Duty, 68.7%, 1,436 yards, 120 yards per game, 20 TD's, 1 INT

2A

Beechwood - So. Clay Hayden, 70.2%, 1,736 yards, 190 yards per game, 20 TD's, 2 INT's

Mayfield - Jr. Zane Cartwright, 66.1%, 1,984 yards, 142 yards per game, 23 TD's, 3 INT's

3A

Christian Academy-Louisville - Jr. Cole Hodge, 74.6%, 2,774 yards, 198 yards per game, 45 TD's, 4 INT's, 669 yards rushing

Bardstown - Sr. Brayden Clark, 79.1%, 1,371 yards, 137 yards per game, 15 TD's, 3 INT's, 247 yards rushing

4A

Corbin - So. Kade Elam, 72.3%, 2,306 yards, 165 yards per game, 31 TD's, 3 INT's, 476 yards rushing

Boyle County - Jr. Sage Dawson, 65.6%, 1,635 yards, 136 yards per game, 23 TD's,  6 INT's, 514 yards rushing

5A

Frederick Douglass - Jr. Cole Carpenter, 61.7%, 1,714 yards, 132 yards per game, 20 TD's, 4 INT's

Bowling Green - So. Deuce Bailey, 63.8%, 2,923 yards, 209 yards per game, 33 TD's, 7 INT's, 375 yards rushing

6A

Male - Sr. Lucas Cobler, 59.4%, 1,154 yards, 82 yards per game, 14 TD's, 7 INT's, 695 yards rushing

Bullitt East - Sr. Travis Egan, 65.8%, 2,649 yards, 189 yards per game, 31 TD's, 5 INT's, 901 yards rushing

Top Completion % - Clark, Hodge, Elam, Hayden = all over 70%

Top Yards - Bailey, Hodge, Egan = all over 2,500 yards

Top Yards per Game - Bailey, Hodge, Hayden, Egan = all 189 yards or more per game

Top TD's - Hodge, Lundy, Bailey, Elam, Egan = all over 30 TD's

Top INT's - Duty, Hayden, Elam, Clark, Cartwright = all 3 INT's or less

Rushing - Egan, Cobler, Hodge, Dawson = all over 500 yards

The name that stands out is Cole Hodge. The only category listed that he was not in the leaders was INT's and he just missed with 4. His 45 TD to 4 INT ratio is fantastic. He is 1st in TD's; 2nd in completion %, yards, yards per game; 3rd in rushing.

The other thing that caught my eye is 9 of the 12 finals QB's are underclassmen.

It is tough to get to a title game without good QB play but the numbers and young age of these QB's are outstanding.

With the majority of teams in their respective Championships being favored to be there, no doubt all the doubters never predicted Bullitt East to make it to Saturday. Well, we will be there in force at 4:00. Travis Egan is our top notch QB and has done a masterful job in leading the Chargers to have a chance in capturing the State 6A Championship. He numbers are fantastic with 2600+  yards passing and 901 yards rushing. And in certain situations he punts (rarely do we punt) and plays Middle Linebacker with a knack for stopping the run. The kid is a tremendous athlete with speed and true toughness. A Football Player. His leadership on the field demands that his team follow his lead. There are several athletes on our team surrounding him which gives BE a tremendous chance to take the title. Tomorrow we will Unleash the Beast!!! The community of Mt. Washington will be there, loud and proud in huge numbers. This magical ride is continuing to pick up steam and what a ride it has been. Good Luck Chargers - WE BELIEVE!!!

Clark missed 6 weeks with a broken collarbone.

Lundy, Duty, Egan & Carpenter are QB's I've worked with in the past. And, yes, this is a solid group of 12 QB's. Good luck to all 12 of these young men and their teammates this weekend!

Thank you @Voice of Reasonfor this!  We all know our favorite QBs, but don't really know all the rest.

Really great group here!

One good tidbit of info for BG's Deuce Bailey; he has attempted 330 passes this season and BG has run the ball 344 times this season.  That's pretty balanced.  Just some perspective on the broader scan of the stats.

Yes, I could see he missed games. That is a shame because if he kept close to his pace on completion percent, he was headed to the state record books. As it is, he doesn't have enough pass attempts to qualify.

Hayden missed the first 5 weeks of the season. I don't think any of the other QB's listed missed significant time.

Really cool to see these numbers, thanks @Voice of Reason. One thing that really jumped out to me is how young a lot of these QBs are. They are going to be a lot of fun to watch the next couple of years.

I'm really high on Bowling Green's QB.  Throws a sweet ball and can flat out run!

Beechwood sophomore QB Clay Hayden’s numbers in four playoff games:

41-54 passing - 75.9% completion %

12-1 TD to INT ratio

827 yards

Suffice to say, young Hayden has been beyond outstanding this year.

Didn't a freshman start the year? Played first 5 games against some pretty tough opponents. How will he fit into the equation in the future?

Nice @Voice of Reason.  Thank you for putting those totals together.  Like you said, one amazing thing is, most of those players will be back in Kentucky High School Football next season.  Wonder what they can do with another year of experience.  Should be exciting.

It will be interesting to see. Two different styles. Freshman Cash Harney is more like Hergott - running more impactful than his throwing. I could see Harney going the Charlie Noon route. Harney is dynamite running the ball. Get him the ball in space.
