Who made the 2nd late hit? I think the first one was on Tyler, but didn't see who got called the 2nd time. I agree, we can't have those type of penalites on defense, especially after the first one, when #53 had just sacked their QB on the play. speaking of #53, I thought Adam is really stepping up his defensive play. He made some nice reads and hits in week 1 against Greenup in their passing attack (despite cramping up in the 2nd half) and last night really limited their sweeps, at least twice bringing the ball carrier down and the other times stringing it out for the Lb's to come up and make a play. Offensively, I agree with Ivan that He and Seth and the rest of the o-line stepped it up and made some nice holes for Abrams and Bates to run through. I think he and the other senior captains are beginning to step up the challenge of being leaders on this year's teams. Still concerned about our secondary though, but with time hopefully they will keep improving.

yeah. I hope it gets no worse than that. Adam, Will, David and everyone else need to start hydrating themselves earlier in the week, because we will be needing them in on as many plays as we can against Boyd. Hopefully the trainers and staff make them start on wednesday getting themselves ready

Bailey took a shot to the groin and Foster cramped up after he made a tackle on the greenup sideline. He tried icing them down and stretching but after every 2 or 3 plays the calves tighten up again. They both should be fine. Here's hoping for a little less heat next friday.

I agree with you about rice, I really believe you'll see him at fullback on friday night against Greenup. Nice point about the o-line. I was impressed with the fire off the ball, but didn't notice the lack of sustaining on their blocks. I'm going to watch for that tomorrow. On that point, I don't know all the intricacies(sp?) of the Wing-T, but I have watched the guards (wills/foster) last year and (foster/boyd) this year,and when they are not pulling, they fire off the ball, letting the d. tackle come on through and they head straight to the LB's and Safeties. Someone out here that is smarter than me, can tell me if that is a feature of the Wing-T offense or not.

I also agree with Goherd, Fball, Jeepman etc. that watching the Scrimmages and where the players are playing is by no means where we will see them on the 24th. At one point when the "1st" team defense was out there, I saw Ivan and Coach Morris switch at least 3 of the players in and out into different positions. DE to LB to Hawk (Strong Safety) and about 5 or 6 of them in and out just for breaks and yet Spring Valley's "1st" did not score on them. Now for the offense, I echo some of the other poster's that each of the runners that ran with the 1st team showed some inconsistency, but I thank that will fix itself the more reps they get in practices and scrimmages they get. Remember all of these runners are 1st time Varsity starters and it takes time to get that cohesion with your o-line. We were spoiled with Gross and Clark for the last 5+ years, but I beleive one or more of these runners will come to the forefront by the start of district play.

I thought the defense looked a little ahead of the offense at this point. S.V. ran alot of the wing-t (1st and 2nd teams at least) so didn't get to see Db's and safeties in pass coverage very much. 1st team offense looked better on the second drive of the day. Passing game still needs more rep's in the next 2 weeks. I'm sure coaches will review the film and fix a few things before Cabell -midland come in on tuesday

And I'll 3rd, 4th and 5th that one. We (Russell) were fortunate (un?) to play the LAST game at Vipperman. Of course the bench was behind the Belfrey fan's section. The game was tremendous though. Love the new stadium and carpet though. The drive is rough. (but of course We hope to make the drive again this year!!!)

Overall, I give them a grade of "B" right now. There were definetly some bright spots. Will Rice look very good running the FB. For that fact, all 3 "projected" first string backs ran the ball well. Sophomores Max Rogers and Travis Jones, looked very good playing in the secondary. I could see them getting some playing time this year on defense. QB's Jones and Cordle both threw the ball well. Receivers dropped a couple, but also made a couple of nice catches. Our o-line and d-lines were divided up for the scrimmage, so it wasn't a good test as to how well they'll play as a unit. Hicks played center intead of tackle on one team. Foster was back at guard and opened some nice holes. Evan Boyd and Joey Roark played really well at linebacker on their teams. Cumpston and Cornwell also did a good job. As for the kicking game, Dolly made all of his PAT's and even made a 42 yarder. His kickoffs were going to the 10 yard line consistently. Freshman Tanner Locey also made his PAT's. The "B" grade was simply because of not seeing the entire units together. But I am very encouraged at the "newcomers" to the first unit at this point, and look forward to seeing them saturday against Spring Valley. The good news was that no one got hurt or dehyrdated and there was a good crowd there considering the heat.

I ask one of the players if they had practiced the jumbo package yet in two a days, just to see who was running it, and they said it hadn't even been practiced yet. They said the coaches told him they probably wouldn't work on it until after the season started. but I do like the idea of moving jones to the backfield for that set. What I have heard is there will be more running this year with alot more option running this year, to utilize jones power and less passing (at least until the new WR's get a little more experience) On Defense the "DB's" are going to get a work out this year, since over half of the teams on the schedule are pass-oriented teams.

From "Red shift" - I don't believe that Raceland is currently in this season's plans for WLGC, at least not on FM. Thanks for the information guys, so we'll being seeing alot of Mr. Robinson this year!! Looking forward to it.

I know that they had been broadcasting fairview for the past 3 or 4 years, but someone had told me they were covering raceland this year. I might check out their website and see if their is any info about the games this year.

Also, "Meet the Devils" scheduled for tuesday, has been changed from 7pm to 8pm due to heat. Come catch a glimpse of this year's squad an enjoy a "dinner" with some good old pork and all the fixin's!! They have been doing some moving around on the defensive side of the ball, and several players have looked good. Mikey Brown and J. Cornwell are both back from injuries and playing on the defensive side of the ball. But the one name that I've been hearing more than anyone so far is Mike Dillon. They said he has been playing really well at the TE spot on offense. At almost 6'3 and 240, they say he is moving guys off the line and has decent straight ahead speed on passing downs. I think they also said he is looking good as a punter as well. The offense has been plugging in guys on the o-line. I have heard Travis Cumpston(sp?), Joey Roark, and Evan Boyd's name mentioned this week as linemen. The pads go on tomorrow, so we'll get to see some hitting.:fight: :fight: Only an A.M. practice tomorrow. p.s. - also, just a reminder that the football players and boosters are having their annual car wash and bake sale saturday. The car wash will be at DWI by Super Quik in Russell and the bake sale at Rail City, so if you can stop by and help them out.

I agree that the time is this year for 38 and 13. They each had their moments last year, but they will need to shine bright in 07-08. Haven't seen much of #22, but from what I have heard, he is going to be an excellent player and could see action on friday nights this year as well. I agree that Ivan and the staff always seem to find that diamond in the rough. 53 and 75?(I think) we be returning to anchor the o-line and also show themselves on defense as well. Having 78(S. Harvey) back with the team is a good start for the d-line. But with the senior laden squad of last year gone, there are several spots ready to be taken. Can't wait until summer workouts start to see who grabs the upper hand on them.

Of course not! you are a gentleman and scholar old rambler. It just seems that when AD's and coaches can't convince the different state eligibility committees, a good lawyer armed with dozens of legal documents canquickly change their minds.

Thanks for the info. I have known and helped coach Darrell since his JFL days and sure hope that he gets a chance to play his senior year, but I think it is going to be very difficult to convince the KHSAA. Humerous note: Maybe he could hire O.J. Mayos' attorney!!:laugh: :laugh: He moved between 3 states and never had to sit out any.

Okay, point taken. But if he didn't transfer to Lawrence Co, then where was he going to school? If it was at Greenup, then he must have not played football his sophomore year, (at least not at QB, because Roman Garrard played that spot in '05.) Or, did he transfer to Ashland and that year was his 1 yr mandatory sit out by KHSAA year?
