They have enough irons in the fire already. They would not want to bother with the governing and financing either. Wait a minute, if there are x amount of kids playing AND paying that would mean alot of $$$$. Maybe they would be interested. Well you could bank on one thing, it would end up being a mess.

I can acknowledge that, I grew up in St. X's backyard. Heck, I wanted to play for St. Stephens Martyr. The majority of both X and T are those kids. That in itself is very hard to match.

Think someone might consider digging a hole and burying one's head. Shameful!

Spread concepts are utilized by most everyone using a two-minute offense. As stated before wing-t concepts are evident in many different scemes.

The issue remains the same. The 70 or so that dress for Manual or Male are all they have. Those 70 are not the best of a pool of well over 150 football players to choose from. The 70 or so are all they have, Period! You could throw in another 25-35 FRESHMAN. That would not allow you to platoon though. Scour the hall at Male and Manual and you may convince a couple more athletes to come out but those are not going to be kids that played through grade school. Heck, these kids that you try to choose from will not know alot of the basic rules. For this reason alone I take issue with the "better coaches" platform some are preaching. Male takes heat every year for not playing more bodies and rest their studs a little more, Manual had only 1-2 players getting substantial two-way time. Those 1-2 played probably little more overall than a one-way player through the course of a game because they got rest on Offense or Defense. Not really true two way players. Some people wonder why teams with all the bodies to choose from would need to play anybody both ways, ever. We know though that at times you HAVE to have your very best on the field.

Now to reality. Coaching at number 1 AND 5, academics at number 8. The same old "they work harder"? I do not agree with these thoughts. Now talk about parent support and involvement as a whole maybe at some schools more than others. Faith based teaching and common goals, yes! Facilities? Yes! Even St.X without having their own stadium (yet) they do offer some of the finest training facilities around. Numbers in practice have to play the largest part and the extra weeks of pracice year in and year out in post season helps tremendously in developing players. Heck, Sophomores are Juniors by the time the season ends. These extra reps in practices add up to 2 extra spring seasons every year. Traditions that run generations deep is the big "intangible", it is very hard to question the family tradition's role in drawing the dedication and commitment from these kids. The CSAA helps cultivate that desire to follow in the footsteps and carry on the tradition. WITHOUT getting into the argument about enrollment numbers these issues are hard to ignore. So anytime the numbers issue arises, I think all of us can agree that there is an advantage in having the numbers to choose from, BUT those numbers would mean less if there were not the tradition, dedication, etc,etc. Maybe that can be a new stance.

This gives new meaning to doing "whatever it takes" to win. It is unfortunate how blatant this act was, almost Woody Hayes like.

I like to know how many times these players are seen by their supportive fans, maybe 12-13 times already. How many times have the players selected been seen by these same supporters? Once or twice maybe. Please quit discounting ALL other selections because your top players (in your opinion) were made HR or left off this less than prestigious list. It is not very becoming.

I think most of us know of a parent(s) that will go to any length to provide all that is good for their children. Unfortunately, the parent is doing more harm than good. We would all be in a better world if our younger generation were taught to abide by rules/laws and that they need to take responsibility for all their actions good or bad. Parents should also try to lead more by example, and be the role models our children look up to rather than allowing some of the low lifes that are publicized in the media to be these role models.

Agreed! The OSSAA should play the game and let this BULL pan out after the season. The decision would have to be up to the coaching staff or school administration as to whether the player should actually be played in the game for fear of risking the title for the whole team. I am taking bets that if the staff decided against using the player that the parents would again go to court. Just a guess. We now have parents going to schools and threatening litigation if their kid does not get a scholarship offer. The coach "held the player back," "didn't give him the ball," "played him at OLB instead of DB," blah,blah,blah!

When I say blanks, I mean we did not see what the officials saw nor are we privy to all the details. I do honestly believe that the offsetting penalties we see all too often are an easy way out and a slap on the wrist. Officicals can put and end to alot of unnecessary activity on the field by calling penalties on the offender they see whether retaliation or instigation. We also see all too often players allowed to get an extra push or shove in before the officials start cracking down. Call infractions of the personal foul and unsportsman like variety when they happen and most of it will decline.

Probably did not state my case precisely, I think there are a lot of blanks, and my point was originally pointed more at the people who always revert to the courts to solve all their issues. Things like this should never make it to court

The key is how many of these teams run strictly wing-t and how many dabble in it. When a team is committed to the wing-t they run a lot of the series that GusMcRae listed and then some. Tubby Raymond at Delaware is the wing-t guru so to speak and Carnegie-Melon has a wing-t camp that coaches and teams can attend. In my experience playing against a very well honed wing-t machine it is very hard to defend. How many teams can offer two really good wing backs, add a FB that can run trap and down, and a QB that carries out all the fakes all the time and is a true threat to score. That is 4 backs in the backfield all carrying out fakes AND blocking down effectively on buck series or blocking the backer inside on Iso. Add to the mix a QB that can pass effectively to a TE that is vital in wing-t (some say the key). Waggle with all the pass run option. My personal dislike for the wing-t aside (tough in short yardage situations) it is effective and takes a tremendous amount of time and discipline to run as well as to stop. As doubledeuce posted, forms and plays in wing-t philosophy ARE seen on saturdays in major college football and on sundays during NFL games. I believe most any team has a form of the waggle in their playbook.

Here we go again, this is a situation where a little common sense and good discretion could go a long way. Rules are in place to protect players and when a player committed a penalty (maliciously) he should have given up his rights to protection. Even if a penalty was enforced against the QB (position irrelevent) there should not have been an ejection and subsequent suspension. If the officials were unable to control the situation and the player refused to stop his retaliation then maybe the ejection and then possible suspension. Sounds like a little more detail could possibly sway a decision. It is just a shame that our society has become so litigious, next thing we will hear about a tee-ball game going to court because a player carried a bat to first. RIDICULOUS!

Brian Wright leaving Western High School was announced in C-J today. Bill Mason's official announcement also. A few more rumored in Jefferson County to be announced probably after the State Finals.

I do not know if he was eligible but he was dressed when G-Town played at Campbellsville this season. I assume that would make him eligible. Also, Is May getting any time at Villanova?

I would expect it to be a little more difficult to get the coaches together for the 1A-2A teams since they are a little more widely spread. Only a few of the local teams make the GLFCA meetings. I also hate to hear and see all the post selection "political" rantings. All of us see and hear how picks are often omitted at the collegiate and professional levels whether the sport be football, basketball, baseball,etc. Bottom line is not everyone can make it and very often some very deserving players get left off. Not always intentionally but by way of a player maybe not playing as well against one district team as another. To discount the teams that were selected is just a slap the players that WERE selected some of them very deserving as well. Even with St.X,Trinity, Bullitt East, and Male(?) not represented at the game , it was still a very talented contest.

PeteW is correct and there was no representation from JH at the meeting. I do not know if there has been a rep at any GLFCA meeting. They may not even be members. Regardless, there is good reason to require member schools to have representation at these meetings, especially the all-district meeting. Yes, you do nominate your own players but you cannot vote for any of your own players on the ballot. By not attending the meeting you would not be able to answer questions other coaches may have about one of your players when they decide on one player over another. I will say that this meeting did take place on the tuesday before the second round playoff game and this could have been a problem for JH to free up a coach to attend (?). Just a possibility. The meeting in Louisville and 35-45 minutes from JH after a practice and post practice coaches discussions are normal. Maybe the players and coaches could care less about the Greatrer Louisville Football Coaches Association and their all-district votes.

I remeber this story evry time a parent yells obscenities at the coach and every time I hear a parent talk about how their kid should be playing more but the coach....... These days I think all of us know that coaches are very accessible while on the field, leaving stadiums, etc. not just while in their office. That security is so minimal is the scary part whether in the school building or at an event like a game. This is a great story of turning negatives into motivation and focusing energy on success in football.

Think back just a couple of years. Do May and MCBroom bring back memories? McBroom was lacking in size but he sure could move, May was also a great RB but from what I understand got on at Butler or Valpo? I saw McBroom at Georgetown earlier this season, he did not play much but he looked every bit as good in pregame. Again I think pre-conceived standards really cost us all in not being able to SEE some of the talent go on to college. In my thought with who I have seen go to some of the local D-1 schools both May and McBroom should easily have gotten a shot.
