  1. I'm sure there will be big play potential, but like everyone says. This was just a scrimmage. I always loved how Coach Haywood viewed scrimmages. Don't get to to worked up, it's just a practice. Get your techniques down, and we'll see what we need to work on. Belfrys Center #61 had a couple of bad snaps, and there wasn't much of a pass rush when Johson Central threw it out of Gator, but I'm sure all the kinks will be out come district time. I also noticed they worked a lot of players in on the defensive line, particularly at Nose Gaurd. I think this shows Belfry will have a lot of depth, and Coach Haywood will be able to work in some young guys this season. I love watching this district play each other. Belfry, Pburg, Sheldon Clark, Shelby Valley.. Going to have some intense action this year!:flame:
  2. I went to this game, and I must say I was disappointed in Belfrys performance. Body size was way down (from what I could tell) from last year. Johnson Central dressed 66? players, and didn't play exceptionally well either. They had quite a few good skill players though. I believe Johnson Central will have a GREAT season. Belfry will kick it into high gear after the preseason. Come district time they will be ready to go as well. Come on guys.. their the Belfry Pirates.
  3. Oh yeah, I know it will be a great game! Certain conditions killed the SC players last game (going out in full pads 90 mins before the game started and warming up in 101 degree weather, 30 mins before the game starts, Goldsmith sends his players out in just helmets and leg pads) and by half-time we all knew the game was over. Some of our SC players were puking on the sideline at the start of the third quater. They were drained physically. You can't send your guys out on the field an hour and half before the game starts in FULL PADS and in insanely hot weather and expect a great performance. The poor players were dead. But, you learn from your mistakes, and that didn't happen again!
  4. Isn't it a little early in the year to start making predictions? SC lost three KEY starting lineman in RG Josh Schmidt, RT John Allen and LG Jon Wells. All three were all-district or better. The two remaining lineman, C Sam Schmidt and LT Danny Hinkle were also all-district. All starting five lineman all-district or better?!?!:scared: Those three spots are going to be extrememly hard to fill. Hopefully some juniors and sophmores-to-be will step up and fill those holes. Sheldon Clarks success all depends on the line this year. SC fans know they carried the team to the Regional Championship at Pond-Creek last year. The skill players have been found in QB Damen Hensley and RBs Adam Dials and Ryan Kelly. Lets hope for a good season! :dancingpa
  5. The Sheldon Clark Cardinals have begun passing, but I'm not sure when they begin their scrimmages.
  6. Does anyone know, as of now, what Perry County Centrals schedule is?
  7. The weight room is "supposed" to be complete by mid April. Not for sure if it will be though.
  8. Its official. The weight room is being built as I type. I dont think they're building the weight room because of the success the Cards had in the 05-06 season, but because they REALLY NEEDED the weight room. It's amazing how good they did, with what little they had (training materials, equipment, etc.).
  9. Apparently Coach Hager has been pushing hard for the weight room Sheldon Clark was supposed to get back in the "Matney" era.:sssh: Rumor has it, that by the end of March the weight room will have been started on, and hopefully, it will be done by the start of the 06-07 football season. Lets go CARDS!!!:dancingpa
  10. Allright, thanks for the info. Will try to go see him in the hospital if I get the chance. He was always a GREAT competitor. I look forward to seeing him up and about again.
  11. Ive heard rumors of Matney being hospitialized and having to undergo surgery... Can anyone clarify this for me? Will this in anyway affect Johnson Centrals football program in 2006? I know Matney is a tough competitor, I saw him for years down here at Sheldon Clark and I know he will be up and about in no time if these rumors are true.
  12. I like it.... Looks really good!
  13. I defintly think, IMO, one of the biggest upsets THIS YEAR in AA HAD to be Sheldon Clarks come from behind victory over Lelslie County at Hayden. Leslie was a 4 touchdown favor, and the winner played in the regional championship. Probably the greatest upset in Sheldon Clark history was when they pulled off the 16-15 win in OT against the Belfry Pirates for the regional championship. And yes, He was in! :sssh: :jump:
  14. All they talked about on the WYMT Special Edition DVD, was the center of Sheldon Clarks offensive line, Junior Sam Schmidt (at least on Sheldon Clarks side). Someone told me they were asking if Josh (Senior Right Gaurd) and Sam were brothers. How many Schmidts do you know? Paul Schmidt, (senior class of 2004-2005) was Sheldon Clarks starter at center his senior year, whereas the year before he started at left gaurd. And as for Beef to the line, 315 is quite a big amount to move around isnt it?   I always hoped for a few more Schmidt boys, but from what I hear, Sam is the last of the trio...
  15.   My bad, major misunderstanding here! I meant State Semi runner ups!
  16. Two years ago Sheldon Clarks starting center Paul Schmidt (senior at the time) repped 225 almost 26 times. His max was 385 when he graduated. Not sure how that us for a high school player....
  17. Certainly deserved it didnt he.
  18. Apparently Sheldon Clark received a transfer or two on the o/d line and will probably continue to be pretty solid in that area. They lost the 4 leaders on the team with Josh Schmidt, Jon Allen, John Wells and James Maynard (d-line) but should still compete fairly well with a couple of juniors stepping up. I look for Sheldon Clark to be real competitive in the district in 06, but lets all pray they can get just ONE defensive back. I know I felt like we didnt even have ONE player in the secondary against the state runner-ups either time we played them. Good luck in 06 SCHS.
  19. Im pretty sure this was the name I heard.... Brad Harless
  20. Things just arent doing so well for Lawerence County right now. I also heard rumor that one of LCs off/def lineman transefered to Sheldon Clark High School. Sophomore who received a decent amount of playing time. Can anyone confirm this?
  21. Its pretty depressing... It seems next year for the cards the average size for an o lineman will be down from 280, to about 245.
  22. Its probably a tie for Sheldon Clark... Sheldon Clark- 21 Prestonsburg- 20 Sheldon Clark- 20 Leslie County- 19 But I bet most fans would pick the latter one. Come to think of it, i would too.
  23. I got to pull for Russell on this one. It takes talent beating the two time defending state champs. Lets go Russell!
  24. Maybe you should think more about Coach McGlone's outstanding game plan that vaulted Russell to what turned out to be an insurmountable first half lead.
  25. How in the world can folks question the play calling and coaching decisions of Coach Haywood last night? You just won two State Championships. I sat in the bleachers on the Belfry side last night and I was amazed at one fan in particular who kept screaming at the Belfry staff about their decision making. I honestly believe last night was an OUTSTANDING coaching job by Haywood and his staff. Many coaches and teams would have panicked at half-time. Instead of falling apart they made key adjustments and stepped up and simply outplayed Russell in the 2nd half. Belfry kept hanging around and was in a position at the end to win the game. It just didn't bounce their way. Big Congratulations to Coach McGlone and the Red Devils. Their first half performance was incredible. Good Luck next week!
