It's Devin. They are both about 6'. Devin probably weighs around 190; Drake around 170. I'm sure time in the weight room will change this before next summer and fall.

My understanding is part of the reason they transferred to Highlands is that they are seeking a place where they can work hard, so I don't think it will be a hard sell to get them to buy in. The other Bruns played on the OL, and alternated between inside LB and DT.

That's the wrong Bruns. The Bruns brothers played for Summit View Middle School.

Congrats to the Camels on this win. Qryche, Tichenor did have a good 8th grade team last year, but one of the good players from that team (his name escapes me) is now at Beechwood and looked pretty good last week when they played Dixie.

Congratulations, young Colonels, on another win which moves your record to 7-2. It was evident from the start of this game that these two programs are at different points in their level of talent and where they are at. IMO, Scott is headed in the right direction, it will just take some time. The substitutions on defense started late in the first quarter, and most of the second half was played by the backups. The backups did very well, only allowing one Scott score on a long pass play that came about because of pass coverage issues. During the time that Dixie's starting offense was in the game, they played well. Scott's defensive alignment did help. For some reason, Scott crowded the box and did not cover all of the WRs so all Pike needed to do was look at the coverage and throw the ball to whichever WR was open. Dixie will be playing their final game against Boone County next Thursday at Dixie. Also, my understanding is that the Dixie JV team will be playing the Dixie Frosh on Monday night at 5:00. This will be an interesting game to watch.

Congrats, Camels! As mentioned previously, this was a realy good football game to watch. In the end, the Camels came up with the stop when they needed it most. For Dixie, it was far from their best game of the year. Defensively, they played pretty well. The run defense was, for the most part, very good. There were some missed assignments on pass defense that, unfortunately, resulted in scores. Probably the biggest difference between this game and the last few for the Colonels defense is that the Camels offensive line did a great job blocking and pass protecting. Kudos to the Camels OL for their effort. Offensively, the Colonels struggled. The running game was decent as Drake Bruns had 165 yards rushing in a follow up to his 185 yard effort against Highlands) but the other backs (Pike, Moore, etc) were unable to find much room to run. The Colonels were unable to complete a pass for the first time this year, which further hurt the running game. And in no way am I trying to minimize the Camels victory, as I'm sure they had something to do with the way the Colonels played. This game was probably one of the best lessons these young Colonels have received in their short lived high school career. I have feeling they have learned from the experience and will carry it with them to future years.

LN, I can certainly understand where you and the others were coming from. I wasn't sure what kind of kick it was until I had a chance to watch it on tape and then asked the players. Because some posters were getting fired up over a perceived onside kick, I was attempting to calm the situation with facts before it got out of hand. I did not intend to disrespect you or any other posters with my post. My apologies if there was any misunderstanding.

For the east... Dixie is in the championship game if they beat Campbell County Highlands is in the championship game if Dixie loses to Campbell County and Highlands beats Holmes Campbell County is in the championship game if they beat Dixie and Highlands loses to Holmes

Viva, I agree with you completely about the Dixie line play. The Dixie lines played extremely well. The offensive line opened up the holes and provided time for the passes. The defensive line seemed to be in the Highlands backfield most of the night. Also, kudos to the Dixie WRs for their blocking in this game. Overall, this was the best Dixie performance this season. Congratulations, young Colonels, on this win. You have continued to work hard on improving and it has shown as each game has been played. Enjoy this victory but remember there is still work to do this year. The Camels are right around the corner and will, no doubt, be ready to play. Finally, I agree that this Highlands team will be different the next time these teams meet. Highlands has a great program and the fact that they know how to continue to improve their football players has been proven over the years. The challenge to these young Colonels is to make the commitment, in the offseason and beyond, to not settle, but to look for every opportunity to improve as well. But that isn't the focus until after the season. Congratulations, young Colonels! Keep working hard!

First, I hope for the best for the Highlands players injured during the game. As a parent, I don't want to see any kid helped on the field, let alone driven away in an ambulance. Prayers with those young birds on speedy and complete recoveries. Now, to the plays in question above, particularly what has been labeled as an onside kick. Some facts for those who weren't there but that haven't yet been posted: 1) Highlands had already run a kick off back for a score 2) I watched the tape, and the kick was fifteen yards down the field, and the Highlands player received the ball 7-8 yards away from the closest Dixie player, and 3) My boys, who play for Dixie, said it was a called squib kick. The HB (by the way his name is Drake Bruns #10) pass is what it is, but too much is being made about an "onside" kick that wasn't. Have your fun if you want, but I will never stand by and watch the mob mentality distort the facts.

The way I see it, there are four outcomes for the East division: If Highlands beats Dixie, Highlands will be in the championship game. If Dixie beats Highlands, Dixie will still need to beat Campbell County next week in order to play in the championship game (the Holmes loss in week one could come back to haunt Dixie). If Dixie beats Highlands but loses to Campbell County, Highlands is in based on the head to head with CC if Highlands beats Holmes next week. Finally, if Dixie beats Highlands but loses to Campbell County, Campbell County is in if Holmes beats Highlands.

C'mon, Skunk, that is an uncalled for opinion. Any reasonable Highlands supporter (or any other reasonable BGP poster for that matter) would agree this comment crossed the line.

Nees, the game is at Highlands. It is on the Dixie schedule for 6:00, but I saw a websource that listed the gametime at 5:00 earlier today, so the game time should be confirmed. I will be able to confirm the game time tonight if no one else does so before then.

:eek: That is a lot of offensive plays for one game. How many turnovers did Newport have for the game? Assuming 10 minute quarters and 20 seconds of clock time on average for each Highlands offensive play, Highlands was on offense for over 30 minutes of the 40 minutes game. Highlands defense should be well rested for next week's showdown with Campbell County.

The nice thing about this Dixie team is that they have a lot of depth to work with and develop at many different key positions. I could provide you a really long list of kids that are contributing at some point during each game. I'm not a fan of dropping names on a message board, but here are some that have contributed quite a bit thus far this season (listed in numerical order)... 10 Drake Bruns 11 Zach Mohring 12 Zeke Pike 19 Parker Stansberry 21 Ian Lewis 23 Clayton McKinney 24 Tyler Moore 29 Alex Furman 32 Seth Bruns (currently out with injury) 62 Devin Bruns 78 Blake Withrow 85 Jake Kleier It may appear as though I have put together a rather long list, but that is what is nice about this Dixie squad, there are a lot of kids contributing.

Dixie continues to show improvement in their offense, defense, and special teams. Dixie was up 34-0 in the third quarter when mass substitutions began. This win moves them to 3-1 on the season (they have also beaten NCC and Cov Cath, with the lone loss coming in week 1 against Holmes). Keep working hard, Colonels, and continue to strive to improve each week. Dixie will be traveling to Newport to take on the Wildcats next week.

It was about 20 yards, but would have been good from at least 30 if not more. As long as the line blocks and gives him time (there was a blocked XP), he definitely adds another weapon to the frosh team.
