Dixie 15 Cov Cath 9 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

Congratulations, Dixie! Dixie scores a TD on a long pass play with under 4 minutes to go in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.

Overall, it was a very good team effort from the Dixie offense, defense, and special teams. Keep up the hard work. Continue to strive to improve each week.

Very good game. The teams seemed evenly matched, but Pike was the best player on the field.

Just a note, the peel back block will most likely not be called a clip if the blocker gets his head on the inside shoulder of the player being blocked. There was a parent confused about this and went on and on about the clip not being called.

Pike had a good game, but he alone wasn't the difference in the game. Quite a few others from Dixie contributed just as much. However, I don't like to mention names because invariably someone is omitted and I'd rather keep the focus on the team.

As for the play you mentioned above, I record every game and have already watched the video with my boy. You are correct that the block on the Dixie linebacker was not a clip because the blocker started on the side and maintained contact throughout the block. However, a WR on the same side of the field clearly shoved the CB in the back (without first making contact on the front or side) as he came in make the tackle. So there should have been a penalty called on the play, just maybe not the one that the parent was talking about.

Not an expert, but a clip is a block from behind, at or below the waist. So, unless he is coming from behind the defender and taking out his knees, it's not a clip. Also, where the helmet is on the block has zero bearing on whether or not it is a penalty. The question is, where is the initial contact. If the contact is not square in the numbers on the back of the jersey, it is a legal block. Ask an official...I did.

Maybe the cornerback should call the crack-back block and not allow his linebacker to get crushed.

Very good game played by two evenly matched teams. The one "clip" or block in the back play that had most the Dixie parents up in arms, the corner had clearly gotten inside of the WR and seemed to be blocked in the back. Not that the play had a huge bearing on the outcome of the game but the Dixie sidelines were up in arms on that play.

Congrats to both teams as after the first drive of the game for Dixie who drove the ball straight down the field, Cov Cath made some adjustments on defense and Dixie had trouble moving the ball after that point. I thought both defenses played well and both teams seemed to have players that we all will be hearing about in the future.

Dixie had a group of nice players, just thought in this game Pike stood out.

Didn't see the CB with the shove and that was clearly not the player the parent was concerned about. I hope there were no lingering injuries from the play.

There are no lingering injuries as far as I am aware. FOr that matter, both teams appeared to come out of this game without major injury, which is always a plus. Good luck for the rest of the season Blue Colonels. :thumb:

That's 2 tough (late) losses for the young Blue Colonels. Good to see they're talented and competing. The "finishing" part can and will come.

How long was the fg? It's very nice to have a weapon like that on the frosh level.

It was about 20 yards, but would have been good from at least 30 if not more. As long as the line blocks and gives him time (there was a blocked XP), he definitely adds another weapon to the frosh team.

Can we sign you up to wear the stripes? What's your price? Nicely done.

While it may not be a clip could it not be an illegal block in the back? I can't imagine that if I'm a blocker and hit the DB from behind (even if its not in the middle of the back) that its nothing.

Nope.

If the initial contact is not " in the opponent's back, inside the shoulders and below the helmet and above the waist", it's not an illegal block.
