Any word on the Highlands/Newport freshman game played this evening?

Highlands won 47-0

I could only stay for the first half, but the Baby Birds looked pretty good after some sluggish first couple of minutes. Newport came out on O and was moving the ball fairly well until they fumbled to the Birds. Highlands, being gracious guests, fumbled the ball back to Newport. Highlands stopped Newport and after Newport punted, it was all Highlands the rest of the first half. I think the score was 25-0 at half.

 

True, Quillen, McGurn and Roush all ran the ball very, very well. That's a nice group of very talented RBs and doesnt even include Ringwald, who as most know, had to have shoulder surgery. Man, that's a bunch of very good RBs in one class.

 

Doggies did a very nice job opening the holes. Kudos to the O line led by Mitch Meyers. Well done boys, well done.

Of the 95 total offense plays that HHS ran, 92 of them were between the tackles (3 were passes).Trapp blocked hard on 91 of them, he was out of the game for the other one. Add Carson to the running back core. Add Towles to the back field as being the man. Of all the plays he QB'd last night, all were running plays. It would have been the perfect opportunity for him to show his passing talent, he was quite impressive in the FTJFL last year. HHS also has a talented receiving core. Some passing routes to the middle, a quick pass, a reverse, these guys would be involved in the game. If HHS runs the same offense next week against the Camels, it will be quite interesting.

Maybe that wise, old weasel Charlie Barr is saving something "special" for our country cousins from the county....Hmmmm?

I like the Trapp kid. He's a hard nosed football player. Why wouldn't you put Towles out there on offense and let him catch a ball if he's not going to QB. Heck he's 6'2 and I assume runs ok if he plays safety.

On the freshmen level I'm surprised Towles didn't get the opportunity to throw the ball. Maybe it was because of the score being out of control and they didn't want to run the score up more. Regardless I'm told it's nice to have this problem!!!:dancingpa

:eek: That is a lot of offensive plays for one game. How many turnovers did Newport have for the game? Assuming 10 minute quarters and 20 seconds of clock time on average for each Highlands offensive play, Highlands was on offense for over 30 minutes of the 40 minutes game. Highlands defense should be well rested for next week's showdown with Campbell County.
