  1. It sounds as if Highlands has a very short school day compared to Franklin County Highschool the first class there starts at 8:00 and the day is done at 3:20 you get 25 minutes for lunch here with Five minute passing times on a 7 period day. That is seven 50 minute classes.
  2. The fitness industry is a multi-billion dollar affair in our country now which makes this feild just as important as others in our country, if you are a school that offers career clusters or electives the wieghlifting or advanced fitness classes are completely beneficial and tied into the curriculum, and should be offered as an alternative to the old dodgeball 101 PE class that the state requires. If done correctly meaning the students do learn vocabulary, in the fitness feild and nutrition and muscle anatomony I see no reason why it is not a good idea to have in schools. As far as more math, more english etc. I agree if that is what you will use in the future, not many kids will be writing poems, short stories or 3 page algebra problems after high school.
  3. I believe it but it is in no way easily attained. I played at a Divison 1aa college and we only had 3 or 4 the whole time I was there that could squat 600 hundred or more. congratulations to these kids and keep up the good work let me know when you can get 700 that is my personal best. But I was 21 years old.
  4. I didnt say enforcing the rule would be easy, the right thing is not always the easiest way. However I am confident that if it could be totally messed up our KHSAA would be the ones to do it.
  5. JD Dog I totally agree with your post I personally think the current rule is good in most cases but I believe that there must be some exceptions sports are for the kids.
  6. I think we sometimes forget that not all kids or thier families are normal. the parents did the right thing by holding the girl back so she could improve her reading. I see no reason why this girl should not be allowed to play another year, I don't really think we need kids on the feild that are 20 all the time but I do feel there are circumstances that qualify for an exception, being held back for academic reasons (not failing) or a serious illness or something should be allowed. Maybe the solution is to come up with a strict appeal process that would need to be filed and reviewed by the KHSAA. We do have such a process for a fifth year of competition in kentucky don't we, why not for an age exception.
  7. The Henry County I seen last year was not very good I seen them scrimmage at Frankfort and play Western Hills.
  8. Coach Combs will do a good job. Look for him to do it the right way, there will be no short cuts from him. He is a good person who really cares about the kids and what he does.
  9. I left the game a little early so I didnt see the game that close. Sounds like FHS played it close.
  10. I agree with you boomer, but we are talking about Rowan county here, I wouldnt doubt if the soccer coach and the basketball coach were heading up the committee to hire a football coach.
  11. Coach J he sounds like a good canidate I don't doubt that at all. I do know of a few cases where some assistants were highly involved in the hiring.
  12. Coach J wouldn't it be up to the new coach if the D-Coordinator would be staying on? or is he in on the hiring commitee?
  13. So no answers for why, privates want to be included with the publics so badly?
  14. I don't know if I am on topic or not, but here are some thoughts on the Public/Private discussion a friend and I had discussed a day or two ago. I Just don't get why the private schools even want to be part of the rest of the state. wouldn't they want to jump at the chance to make their own leagues built on sportsmanship, morality and superior work ethic? Private school supporters get so mad and insulted that we the public schools want to become seperate from them, hello......... you all have chose not to be part of our school systems, you have payed good money to attend another school system that is seperate from the rest of us.... Why is it okay to be a part of our sports? I believe that public schools have the right to be seperate just like you all have the right to choose where you can go to school. We also have the right or should have the right to vote you out of our championships or impose rules upon you and your schools if we so choose through a vote of KHSAA membership.
  15. 100+ division 3 level athletes are worth something aren't they?
  16. 6 classes is a good thing for the state concerning football.
  17. Whether this is a good idea or not is irrelevant when the main issue that is on the states agenda should be the fact that an overwhelming majority of schools wanted to seperate publics and privates. This is an attempt at a band aid on a large wound.
  18. I guess you could give these two teams the benefit of the doubt in not beleiving how bad they really are.
  19. I say good for Fayette County to stick to their guns on the ban even though there is a huge loss of gate money for doing so. I will not voice my opinion on the reasons for the ban.
  20. I guess a loss is a loss to them, my question is what in the world is Scott County and Rockcastle doing scheduling Bourbon, talk about buying a win.
  21. I chose Nicholas County I believe in no team left behind.
  22. I think that baseball and basketball really exploit AAU, and other leagues for their own uses, therefore creating a huge loophole in the idea behind dead period, this is why myself as well as other football coaches are irritated by the timing and use of the dead period.
  23. Does Dead period effect AAU, Legion Baseball, or other non-school affiliated sports?
