I think this should be chalked up as an honest mistake by a voter, whoever tabulated the votes or a typo. No voter would vote Brossart in the top 10 (I hope). In a few years I’m sure they will build a strong program because of: 1) The tremendous fan support they receive. 2) The excellent job Brossart does of promoting their athletic programs. 3) The expected growth in the Alexandria area. I wish them the best of luck!

Dave Schneider-NewCath

Mike Kiernan was a coach and teacher at NewCath around '85 or '86. He changed professions.

Not sure of dates or if this is a complete list but I know they play Newport, Ryle, Campbell County, CovCath, Simon Kenton, Lloyd, Beechwood, Bellevue.

I'm sure he had something to do with those 312 wins and 3 State Titles.

Schneider will always want to play CovCath before Highlands and I don't think there is enough room in the schedule for both. Remember that coach Schneider started his teaching career at CovCath.

What position does he play?

EVERY defense likes a muddy field.

I remember playing Corbin in the State Semi's. The whole town was really into it! The store fronts were painted, the main street was decorated. That was really neat! The only place I can compare that to is (this is real difficult to say) "gulp" Ft. Thomas.

I-Mom, please say that the QB is still on the team. I was told by several people tonight that he's not on the Frosh team anymore.

The NewCath / Holy Cross game has been moved to Holy Cross (practice field) starting at 5:30.

So the "overwheliming attitude" is not to care about the kids longterm health?

I don't think there is any way to change scouts view. It would be like scouting shorter centers in basketball or scouting kids that can lay down a good bunt in baseball. The first thing a scout looks at for a lineman is his height & weight, then they will take a look at how the kid moves. Hate the game, not the player!

I fully agree with that statement but the Real Sports segment was talking about what kids (and parents) will do to get that D-1 scholarship. On the show they talked about a kid who's father would wake him up in the middle of the night so he could eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich so he could gain weight. That is just CRAZY!

Size isn't over rated if the scouts won't look at you unless you're over 290lbs. You can't coach size, you can coach technique.

This is the story my father told me. He was in the NewCath class of ’54, which was the first year of the school on the hill. He told me that he and a few other students were helping a new teacher, who was a Brother, move into the new school. The teacher was asking a lot of questions about other schools in the area and Highlands became the topic. The students said that’s where the “rich” kids go and the Brother asked where Highlands was at. One of the students pointed in the direction of Ft. Thomas. The Brother then said to the students “They may be eating cake but we will be breaking bread together”. From that day forth Highlands became the “Cake Eaters”. Now….Is this story true? WHO CARES, it’s a great story!!!

How about Kyle Moore for NCC

For whatever reason the northern part of Campbell County has been a “football” oriented area. The southern part of the county has been a “basketball” oriented area. This has been true since the old Campbell County Youth Football league of the 70’s & 80’s. That old league had teams from St. Joe’s, St. Therese, St. Thomas, St. Anthony, and St. Francis. There were not any teams from the southern part of the county because they didn’t have any interest, the Southern schools (St. Mary, St. Phillip, Sts. Peter & Paul, St. Joe Camp Springs) were offered to combine players for one team and they still didn’t have enough to field a team. Even today the Campbell County Red Devils, which is the only Youth football program in the Southern part of the county, gets the majority of the kids from the Cold Spring, Highland Heights, Southgate area. Being very familiar with both NCC & Brossart I do not see this benefiting Brossart, but I think it will hurt NCC some in the long run. Although I hope that it may start a debate about merging both schools, which I think would benefit the whole county.
