  1. Preseason they were unrated by the most accurate Kentucky HS poll (BGP), with no Mr. Football candidate, did Ryle do more with less than any other 4A school this year?
  2. There are a few schools, some located close to one another, that do not play one another in a regularly scheduled series. The matchups seem to be naturals. Does anyone know if any of these matchups are in the works, and if not, why not. Male v. Trinity-Perenial 4A powers whose last two meetings have been games for the ages. They are located within 10 miles of one another. Each had a relatively weak non-district schedule this year. A Poppa Johns matchup would draw huge crowds, but forget the attendance- what Kentucky HS fan would not look forward to this clash. For the past twenty years they have been among the elite football powers in the state. What gives? Why no series? Central v. Western-Super athletic, high scoring schools with similar enrollments, situated within 10 miles of one another. Bring a calculater to the game to keep tally after the scoreboard blows. Johnson Central v. Bell or Rockcastle County-An intersectional rivalry between Eastern Kentucky powers would rev up fan interest (as if necessary in these hotbeds of HS football) and give much needed preperation to these teams for when they inevitably meet a NKY or WKy 3A power in the playoffs. Russell v. Belfry-The bully boys of EKY 2A. Neither has a particularly loaded schedule, and an early season slugfest between these titans could set the tone for the season in 2A. Mercer County v. Lex Catholic-Newly created school/football power was criticized for being much larger than schools in its class and for a flaccid schedule. Lex Cath, like Cov Cath, X, and Highlands, has a reputation for playing anybody, anywhere, anytime. Why not?
  3. In terms of the recent Male v. T game, do you feel that Trinity having kids from 14 or so counties affected the outcome of the game?
  4. Alabama Larry, H: Regarding the T v. Male game, given that the game ended third and goal from the one, is it your belief that Male would win if they played again? Also, if the playoff schedule was reversed, and Male played Southern and Ballard leading up to the Trinity game and Trinity played PRP and X leading up to the Male game, do you believe the results would have been the same?
  5. Trinity played Southern and Ballard leading up to the Male game. Male played PRP and X leading up to the Trinity game.
  6. Yes, and that makes my point. X and T, sans Brohm, as you point out, are 3-2. Against all other competition they win 90% of the time. They have up to double the number of boys as these other schools. Guru was correct when he observed that "Trinity maximizes their potential. And, this year they have an all state QB which makes them very dangerous."
  7. X and T are the two of the three premier 4A football teams and they have the two largest male enrollments in the state. Numbers are the critical factor. Does anyone really believe T or X would be nearly as successful with 700 boys? And to answer your 6-3 question (although not the thread): Brohm. Again, this is not a n X/T thread, but a "does Trinity do more with less than any other 4A school?" I would imagine that a Bullitt Central fan (I believe they are the smallest 4A school with about 680 boys) would be amused at that assertion. Numbers matter.
  8. I should add, though, that T has done exceedingly well despite their numbers advantage over most schools!
  9. Thats true... but the point he is making is that the larger the number of boys, the greater the chances of good or excellent athletes. For example, if on average 1 in 10 boys is a superior athlete and one in 100 is a far above average athlete, T or X would have over 150 or 160 superior or far above average athletes to choose from vs. 75 or 80 with schools with lesser enrollments. That is why I have long felt that perhaps Fort Thomas Highlands truly does more with less than any Kentucky school in football.
  10. Is it possible that the post was tongue in cheek, similar to the Trinity poster writng of the Male game: "Its official, we're doomed. The new guy in CJ picked the Rocks to win. I wish Jody would have told him not to do that. We're doomed I tell ya!!!" [Posted 11-17-06].
  11. Alabama Larry and LSURock: Pregame LOUD music is standard at many high school games. It drives many older guys like me (us?) nuts, but the young kids love it. If put to a vote, Trinity and Male (X too) players, I dare say, would approve that message.
  12. Xtiger, there has been a decline in the frequency of your posts on this board, and BGP is poorer for it. Indeed, your daughter was correct. I was there to witness this poignant moment, watching Vic console the heartbroken fan with downs syndrome . Vic also walked the sidelines at the game's end, shaking hands and hugging players and coaches. Sure there have been periodic “downs” with some antics and drama. How unlike a teenager. On the other hand, if any senior in this year's class spent more time at St. X functions and activities, I would like to meet him. I have also observed him around children and watched him brighten their day by laughing and talking to them. He made great strides in his journey from his early teen years to early manhood. As to his football prowess, meteors this bright don't flash by often.

  14. Could someone explain the financial advantage to Male if the game were moved? X played them and there was still room around the field to pack in more fans. I am aware of no empirical evidence that T travels better than X. If the game were at Papa Johns I would assume that there would be a rental fee for Papa Johns, and I am not sure about whether Male would get the concessions at Papa Johns. It seems like they would give up concession money and a rental fee for a possible attendance increase. Does anyone have knowledge of the financial numbers on this sort of thing? Note, again, I am only addressing the financial angle, not the home field or condition of the field aspect.
  15. Congratulations to Male on a well deserved victory. They are perhaps the most physically talented team in the state this year. Their seniors were undefeated as freshmen and sophomores and have yet to lose this season. They have a chance to be a special team before it is over this year. X's senior class was also special. With the exception of Vic, they certainly were not the most physically talented class. But they were good kids, worked hard and played a most difficult schedule for four years with a lot of success. Over four years they won with class and lost with dignity. Thanks for the memories!
  16. A sound, solid and intelligent post, well thought out and non-provocative. SuperShamrocks, what are you doing posting such high quality analysis in the middle of an X and T dust up?
  17. I was more thinking physics or calculus. Maybe even Latin.
  18. Those X people are tricky. So is Cantrall. His November 6 ratings have Trinity at 91.2 and Ballard at 74.3. The Lit Ratings are also engaging in this trickery. On 10-31-06 they had Trinity at 126.9 and Ballard as 99.6. X people, Cantrall and the Lit Ratings all know that Ballard high school players avidly pour over what we post here for "material". Freud said "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".
  19. No sir, St. X does not have a football stadium. Unlike most schools (yours perhaps?) the taxpayers did not fund a stadium for St. X. When you post that " I think we will just play at home on our own fieldturf" you acknowledge that St. X is in an inferior position to your school, since X has to find a stadium to rent for every "home" game. As to not being permitted to play at Papa Johns until the title game, many X fans would concur, with this caveat: You can play there at any time, like X, but your playoff road to the title is Manual, Male, Trinity all in succesion. X will stay out of Papa Johns but will assume your schedule. Deal?
  20. It could result in a retroactive ban of the privates by the KHSAA. Your 4A scenario is the most likely, although Male would be the favorite if their road to the title were flipped with Trinity. X may have too much on their plate with 11th ranked Manual, and if victorious, probably Male and Trinity. IMHO, the most impossible task is Manual's. To win, the Crimsons would have to knock off X, then most likely Male and Trinity.
  21. You have succinctly capsulized what I have been wondering for a while. Perhaps there is no objective answer. Over the past nine years Jefferson County 4A teams have taken state. Four champions came from Trinity's district (Trinity), and the other five were Male/X. Would the results differ had Trinity been in the district with either Male or X, and had Male or X been the lone power in Trinity's district? Any thoughts or analysis?
  22. And yet it came down to a blocked punt at the end of the game. You never can tell in HS football. Thanks for the info. I was not aware that the stadium had hosted a state title football game. I should have pointed out earlier that it also has hosted huge soccer matches over the years. IMO the ambiance is unmatched. What will X do next year without a Check's or Flabby's to walk to after the game? Rams fans are fortunate indeed to call this their home.
