  1. Hopefully the dinner matches the comraderie of the ST. FRANCIS XAVIER SOCIETY!
  2. I should have added: X looks forward to your attendance. Hopefully the game will unfold in a stadium that comes close to matching the new Trinity facility.
  3. Careful, LSURock, about who you ride with. You saw the first Godfather, with Pete Clemenza and Carlo Rizzi.
  4. I strongly considered Mr. Houk for inclusion on the team but the fact that he had been in the seminary, resulting in only one year of football at Flaget, weighed in favor of the other selections.
  5. What a memory! Herman was a 5'6" dynamo on Faget's O and D lines from 1963 through 1965. He was tough, and a geninely nice guy. Flaget was an all boy Xaverian Brother school in Louisville's west end. The student body came from primarily blue collar homes. It offered an unparalleled education, excellent atheltics, and strong discipline. Many grads will recount tales of physical duress inflicted on rambunctious teenage boys by faculty members during their tenure at the school. Of course, schools can no longer engage in that type of discipline for fear of legal reprecussions.
  6. I have not been in the Marshall Center, but am told that it is top notch. Also, Shamrocks, you guys set the standard for first class football stadiums for private schools in Jefferson County. X is following a path blazed by Trinity. After viewing BuddyBW's photos and walking around the partially finished stadium, I will admit that it eases some of the nostalgia induced distress of leaving Manual Stadium. Now, if there was just a Checks or Flabbys within walking distance....

  8. I was living out of town during Henessy's prime years, but I have heard about him a lot through my Trinity friends. How good was he, and is there a player in the past few years one could benchmark him with? What did he do in college?
  9. Yes, but confirmed by indirect (somebody said somebody said...) or by direct? That is why I ask what the boys' mom and dad said about the boys situation at the football banquet the other day. Surely someone spoke to the parents at the banquet. What did they say?
  10. Redarding the thread topic, many posters have speculated as to whether the Petrino boys will end the season at Trinity, and whether the younger Petrino will return to Trinity next year. Has anyone actually talked to Bobby Petrino or his wife for confirmation. For example, the Trinity banquet was just held. Did anyone talk to Mr. or Mrs. Petrino at the banquet about this, or did Mr. or Mrs. Petrino give any indication to anyone at the banquet about this? Surely Coach Petrino or his wife gave some indication as to this or spoke about it to Trinity supporters at the banquet.
  11. Did Bobby Petrino or his wife indicate at the banquet what the status is of Nick and his younger brother as to staying at Trinity or moving to Atlanta?
  12. Correct. I took the title of the thread to mean a coach who would make UL an even greater football power. If that was the meaning I do not think it is an upgrade for Louisville. After all, if any of us were asked a week ago to name the better coach between Petrino and Kragthorpe, who would have selected Kragthorpe? But, in terms of other issues (personable, constant flirtation with other programs/franchises), Kragthorpe may be the better choice.
  13. Kragthorpe appears to be an excellent hire, but an improvement over Petrino? We'll see. The LSURock and h.s.sportsrbest show is interesting. Perhaps we could get you two on another thread in a discussion of 3A champion Covington Catholic v. 4A champion Trinity, had they played this year.
  14. The Big East was undefeated in post-season bowl competition and had 3 teams ranked between 6 and 12 in the various polls. The SEC has the national champion and 3 teams ranked between 1 and 6 in the various polls and 5 teams in the top 25. The Big 10 had the 1 and 2 teams for part of the season. Thoughts?
  15. Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner. The numbers are as follows: 1) Male -6 2) Flaget -3 3T) Manual -2 3T) St X -2 To my knowledge these are the only Jefferson County schools to win a Lietkenhous Rating state championship. (Source: Steve Vesel's "The HISTORY of METRO LOUISVILLE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL"
  16. Good guess. You have 3 of the 4, and close to the order.
  17. The late, great Bishop David Falcons (football 1962-1983). An interesting trivia tidbit: David Bradshaw was selected all-district QB over.......Phil Simms! Bishop David was known for staunch defense. Bishop David merged with Angela Merici to become Holy Cross High School in 1984.
  18. Yeah, quite true. You may want to start a thread on that topic. This thread, though, is " Which Jefferson county school over the years has won the most Lietkenhous state titles. Extra credit: Which school or schools is second and third?" Lets stay on point.
  19. Kentucky high School teams since 1959 have won state championships in a playoff system, capturing a class title (originally A, AA, AAA). However, different class champions may claim that they were the best team in the state. Prior to 1959 there was a champion based upon whatever system you may prefer, such as polls or mathematical formula. One such formula is the Lietkenhous Rating. Which Jefferson county school over the years has won the most Lietkenhous state titles. Extra credit: Which school or schools is second and third?
  20. Well, judging from Jamie's appearance, the "Legendary" Coach Brown may be up to that task.
  21. jimmyref, that was not a flaw in the Michigan game plan, but rather a flaw in the athlete(s) covering Mr. Jarrett. Unfortunately, judging from Jamie's appearance, I'm afraid even the "Legendary" Coach Brown would not be up to the task of shutting down Mr. Jarrett.
  22. If there are flaws to be found in the USC game plan, the "Legendary" Coach Brown would find them. Good man, good coach.
  23. Good post, LUCK. This, gentlemen, I believe is the 1978 State Champion St. X team, 13-2 overall and a 42-21 victor over Tates Creek for the 4A title. If only heart counted in this thread, this would be a difficult squad to beat. The thread asks "Put together your schools best players of all-time. " I know a couple of the above list LUCK, and while long on heart, the talent....
  24. Whew!!! I do not think there is another school in the state that can match that lineup. You have a lot to be proud of. Another feather in Male's cap is, I believe, the only 3 time first team all-stater's from Jefferson County attended Male (twice: Montrell Jones and Michael Bush). BTW, if memory serves, Othello Brim went to Western Kentucky where he started along with Romeo Crennel, giving Western what I considered the all-Shakespeare team.
  25. I felt like Brooks did a good job this year. He took over a poor program reeling from probation scholarship penalties and played rugged schedules every year. This year he finally played teams with a full compliment of scholarships. He lost to Sagarin's 4th ranked team(blowout), 5th ranked team (blowout), 6th ranked team (close well into second half), 10th ranked team (outplayed UT at UT), and the 26th ranked team(close). He beat the 24th ranked team, and the 29th ranked team, and won all his games against lesser opponents. Two and five against his superiors and undefeated against his inferiors. Four games against top 10 teams, all away, with one close loss late and the other loss a winnable game on the road. All of this while running a program that by all accounts had no ethical challenges. Who knows how he will fare next year. By any measure, he did well this year. This is from my vantage point as a neutral observer, although I am a fan of the way Brooks has conducted himself and his program.
