  1. Come on Tony...a BIG TIME media star such as yourself cannot wrench this info out of the session? You may have to resort to more devious :scared: tactics.
  2. After the way the Tigers played in the second half, I'm wondering if this was a concession to the public schools, prior to the vote, to show that they could not only compete, but win. Good luck to the Crimsons on their remaining journey in search of the state soccer title. :thumb:
  3. Two of the private schools, St. X. and trinity, have a numbers advantage in boys sports, but the rest of the private schools statewide have no such advantage. The public schools, however, offset this advantage by having far more students with high athletic potential. Their major problem has been in developing this talent, which can be attributed mainly to a lack of parental support and to a lesser degree, inferior coaching.
  4. Pete, I will never argue with you that we have a numbers advantage (although I do wish you would use the correct number of 1400 instead of 1600...are you a fisherman?) On the other hand you should not stick your head in the sand and say that you do not have more athletic bodies roaming the halls of Manual than we do. It's time to get REAL!
  5. Initially the money was given to trinity by Archbishop Kelly following a private request from Dr. Mullen which did not go through the normal review procedures of the Archdiocean Finance Committee. After some procedural objections were put forth, the Archbishop withdrew most of this offer, and the needed funds were then raised by the trinity community.
  6. That an excellent list Tony, but it can also be misleading. Out of the nine (9) players listed for St. X., I believe only two (Dan Bick and Mike Sturgeon) are on scholarship. The rest of these kids are all walk-ons who love football enough to serve as strictly scout team players for practice and are footing their own tuition as normal students. Is there some list also available which counts only those players who were deemed athletic enough by the coaches to merit a football scholarship? I think that you will find the football scholarship list much more scued to the public side.
  7. Ram, I have tried to stay on the sidelines of this discussion for a long time, because I think the lines have long ago been drawn in the sand and further debate only leads to personal attacks. Nonetheless, I feel that I must wade in here to counter one of your major points above. We are out drawing the public schools in numbers of students who participate in athletics (although the publics should have no excuse for not matching our percentages to total students), but we do not out draw the public schools in terms of students with high athletic potential (mainly because most are non-Catholic and cannot afford the tuition even with 50% financial aid). This is a real life big disadvantage for private schools. I will speak no more on this.
  8. Ram, you have very few people you need to convince. You have gone toe-to-toe with the best and barely lost three split decisions. The only thing the Crimsons seem to be lacking is luck and the avoidance of one critical mistake per big game. :thumb: Once again, I'm happy it's you suffering with this dilema and not me. My famly picnics will once again be as enjoyable as they have been for the past decade.
  9. JD Dog, your venting is absolutely no problem to me. I welcome your viewpoints in the presentation of John Hardin's case. In the preseason and actually throughout this season, I have felt that John Hardin probably had a very good team; but I have no ammunition at this point to support my feelings. If they win the district against North Hardin, then I fully expect them to have a 50/50 shot at beating PRP or Butler in the 1st round of the playoffs. If they don't win the district, then I only give them a 1 in 10 shot at beating St. X., Male or Manual in the first round. If John Hardin can survive through the first two playoff rounds, then I believe you have made your point. :thumb: Thanks again for your comments on a team which is underrepresented on BGP. The more you can tell us about your team, the more we will understand, and the mystery tag may be removed. :ylsuper:
  10. John Hardin is not by itself in being in the mystery catagory for me. George Rogers Clark is another undefeated 4A team which due to strength of schedule has no reference point to date. At least when GRC plays Madison Central towards the end, I will have some gage on them. However, prior to playoffs, the stiffest competition John Hardin will see is North Hardin, who seems to be struggling some against a much harder schedule. Moreover, as others have already posted, stats are not considered impressive when compiled against so-so opposition. Let's face it, none of us is going to know the true quality of John Hardin until the playoffs. If I were you, JD Dog, I would just bide my time for now under the radar, and wait for the playoffs to reveal the true character of my team. Your weak schedule of teams outside of district competition has prevented you from receiving regular season accolades. Toughen the schedule in future seasons to prevent this from reoccurring.
  11. I don't agree with you on this, H. In Fiddler and Lamar, Henderson Co. has arguably the best QB and WR in Kentucky. Both were BGP All-State last season. Manual's biggest defensive weakness is against the pass, which was obvious in their loss to trinity. Henderson at #6 and Manual at #7 looks right to me at this stage. In regards to John Hardin, they are a mystery team to me. There are no challenging teams on their schedule, so they have no point of reference, either positive or negative. As others have already noted, I would probably place them at #11 for now because I do not see a team currently in the Top 10 that I could eliminate in their favor. My current feeling is that every team ranked above them would beat them.
  12. We'll know for sure by the end of this year, Ram. If things go as planned, we will be in the new "Oxnard Stadium" (I'm still trying to raise the final $1,999,999 needed for naming rights  ) in the fall of 2007, which means this WOULD be our last HOME game against Manual in Manual Stadium. Personally, I don't know whether to smile or cry  .
  13. Back on to the Topic: :fire: TIGERS ATTACK HERD OF LAMBIKINS IN OPEN FIELD ON BURNETT :fire: :ylsuper: CHECK'S HAS MUTTON STEW SPECIAL ON FRIDAY NIGHT :ylsuper:
  14. I've also stayed out of this debate this time because it has been so redundant with previous threads and arguments. I expect the proposal to pass, but the real battle will be in the Legislature and the courts. We have been gearing up for this, and I fully expect it to be a heated battle . We will NOT walk softly into the night. :irked: :fight: :irked: I am GREATLY disappointed in Male, Manual, and Scott Co., three schools for whom I formerly had a great deal of competitive respect.
  15. Unfair to whom...you and your personal vision of fairness or the student from the adjoining state, who wishes to attend a private school but has none proximal to him in his own state?
  16. Not so...The school itself is paying for its membership in the KHSAA, which entitles all its students to the benefits of Kentucky athletics.
  17. A well-spoken, excellent post, Oldschoolwrestler, which deals with realities and not ignorant suppositions. :thumb:
  18. Based on this you are still in denial that seeing the two teams on the same field perform (in whatever manner is chosen for the scrimmage), is less meaningful than verbal speculation...hard to understand your logic. I am not saying that scrimmages are the where all of everything, but on the football evolutionary chain they are above verbal speculation and below a regular season game. :argue:
  19. Where do you place more validity? Case #1: The fans of two teams who have not yet played any regular games, let alone against each other, argue and debate about who is better. Case #2: The two teams, which have not yet played a regular season game, scrimmage against each other and one outperforms the other. Personally, I would place much more creedance in the scrimmage result than verbal speculation.
  20. This is a great anology of the debates which occur every weekend before the BGP Rankings are finalized and released for publication. By having a wide diversity of knowledgeable people participate, representing all the geographical regions in Kentucky, "homer" sympathies are eliminated. Votes are not merely cast, tabulated, and then published. You must defend your position utilizing all known variables. As the guru has pointed out, this does include performance in scrimmages, which early in the season is much more meaningful than shere speculation. It is for these reasons that I feel that are no other published high school rankings which can hold a candle to those produced by BluegrassPreps. :thumb:
  21. Actually Holy Cross is the resultant merger of two private schools, Bishop David and Angela Merici, which were both around since about 1960. Bishop David was always a strong contender in football, and that tradition has been carried over to Holy Cross. This is not an overnight deal.
  22. This not true...Louisville Central is a 3A team and came very close to beating Boyle County in the playoffs last season. I am really having trouble with your logic in this discussion. When you willingly handicap yourself through the considered choices you have made, how can you claim the result as unfair? To me this is like tying one hand behind your back and blindfolding yourself before enterring a boxing match.
  23. Boy, we sure have a lot of love coming our way in this thread! Personally, F to B, I certainly hope that we do get an opportunity to play you again this fall, because that will mean that we have emerged victorious in what should be the toughest 4A Region in the state. :thumb:
  24. Is this a tenant/landlord thing with you or just too many times where you've snatched defeat from the jaws of victory? Having followed this rivalry for a long time, I've never gotten this :fire: intense :fire: feedback from other Manual alums. I've always viewed the Tigers' games with the lambikins as much more amicable than our encounters with the chiquaquas and the pebbles.
  25. Despite our constant X/t bickering on BGP, RockPride, I for one always enjoy your posts and almost consider you as a friend. :thumb: :thumb:
