  1. Again, you can't teach "BIG". If nothing else, this kid has NFL size in his eighteen year old body. Worth the chance! Give the BlueBoys a shot!
  2. May be true, but this boy has what no high school or college coach can teach............SIZE. That alone makes the potential risk of recruiting him well worthwhile. If coaches could only have a way of measuring the ticker (heart), it would make recruiting a lot easier.
  3. Maybe not next year, but within the next couple of years, with the new school, I assume a new field, and a probable change in districting of the city of Lexington, I would think this Bryan Station job would be highly coveted........potentially a gold mine filled with great opportunity. I am hearing there has not be a lot of interest and am scratching my head as to why? Anyone know?
  4. Why can't someone from Lexington get a big truck and haul that big sequoia up to play for Kentucky? Does he have no interest?
  5. "Burke has also LED his team to its first ever state championship"........what crystal ball are you looking into, "Stick1"?
  6. Besides Tyler Hancock, who I think is a junior, are there any promising prospects in the sophomore or freshman class that might contend for next year's job?
  7. Absolutely no hands down winner! Two horse race......two pretty good horses. Not that I agree, but I think Micah Johnson's commitment to UK as well as his Rivals.com Top 50 status may give him an edge. However, Justin Burke is still playing and playing for a championship.
  8. Micah Johnson just tightened up the race for Mr. Football with his oral commitment to UK. I like Justin Burke from Lexington Catholic. Outstanding numbers. It is not the statistics that impress me as much as his overall win/loss record and the fact he is playing for the state 3A championship. I hope he did not chose North Carolina State just because of Marc Trestman. Trestman will probably not be at NC State next year or at least not in a couple of years. He is a professional coach and came to the college ranks after Nick Saban did not retain him on his staff at Miami. He will be back in the NFL within two years.
  9. George Rogers Clark won the state 4A championship using the Wing-T in 1991. It is a very effective offense with the proper personnel.
  10. Why would you try to throw out the St. X blowout? At least we know Trinity is beatable and that St. X game was more than a beating. As you know, great teams do not get beat like that......especially in traditional rivalry games which are usually closely fought. "RockPride"... what river runs through Eqypt? Dee Nile!
  11. A very good point. If Lexington Catholic jumps out on Highlands, playing catch-up with the Bluebird offense will be a formidable task! If they are put in that position, it certainly helps that they are: 1.) at home; 2.) playing against Lexington Catholic's defense.
  12. I feel the score will be well under 40 for both teams because Highlands will control the clock and win the time of possession game. Lexington Catholic's defense will give up the long drive. This game will only get into the 40's if Highlands gets out to a big lead. The Knights would then make a valiant comeback and score a lot of points and possibly win the game. The lower the scoring, the higher the probability that Highlands will win it!
  13. Henry Clay attempts to two-platoon, but we are seeing more players playing on both sides of the ball at playoff time.
  14. I would love to be able to see this game in person. Lexington Catholic has excellent skilled players. Wes Caldwell (WR) will be the best athlete on the field. He is the man to stop. Cornell Burbage, Jr. is a good high school receiver, but not the game breaker Caldwell is. One thing is for sure, Highlands will have a nice scheme to stop the Knights. It is a matter of executing Coach Mueller's design. As for predictions. It's playoff time and the Bluebirds have at least two major advantages: 1. Home field advantage; 2. Defense wins championships. Lexington Catholic will not be bringing much of a defense on Friday night in Ft. Thomas. I thought the Knights could win one of the playoff games against the Northern Kentucky teams, but not both. That being said.......Bluebirds by a surprisingly comfortable margin. The Lexington Catholic playoff hex continues.
  15. To go 8-3 with 9 of your 10 opponents making the playoffs is impressive. Is the Highlands team young? I know they have a senior at quarterback. Who is the future at that position for Highlands? Also, how young is their defense?
  16. It is true that Lexington Catholic has not had the big boys on the offensive or defensive lines. Have always had great skilled position talent. Never has been to tough on the defensive side of the ball. I think the real problem is the strength of their schedule each year. I know they are in a very weak district and they don't have control over the district scheduling. They did play the best in AAAA (St. X) and last year's AAAA runner-up (Scott Co.), but playing Bourbon County, Western Hills, Anderson County, and then Grant County in the first round of the playoffs does not get a team ready for the likes of Covington Catholic (who played a tough schedule) and potentially Highlands in the playoffs. Not that they have any control over it, but it has hurt the Knights every year come playoff time.
  17. "Mean Bird" says Highlands had 9 opponents (all except Conner) make the playoffs. "72 Birdman" says 6. You Ft. Thomas boys need to get your stories straight! Which is the correct number?
  18. Henry Clay has seven opponents who made the playoffs. The teams and their records are as follows: Belfry (9-2) Boyle Co. (10-1) Bell Co. (9-2) Christian Co. (7-4) Scott Co. (6-5) Dunbar (9-2) Lafayette (6-5) Six of the seven won their first playoff game. Only Lafayette was defeated.
  19. Chase Minnifield of Henry Clay might be the best defensive back in the state as a junior. A big-time playmaker! And for those who are wondering, yes, he is Frank's son.
  20. Remember, Lafayette beat Henry Clay with the short passing game very similar to that of..............South Laurel. Both teams run the Tony Franklin system, but Henry Clay has tweeked it with the running game of the old Delaware Wing-T. South Laurel seems to be very committed to every facet of the Hal Mumme offense. A very interesting November playoff match up. Looking forward to seeing this game! As far as a prediction, I'll take a three year starter, senior quarterback over a promising freshman quarterback at playoff time.
  21. As LCA continues to grow their program, the results of this game will be quite different in five years. As for now, LCA is looking for a moral victory here. Beechwood is too strong all-around for LCA this year. I look for LCA to play this one down to the wire.
  22. To say that Paul Lawrence Dunbar has a lot of momentum going into this one is an understatement! They beat Clark County on a fourth down magnificent throw with 15 seconds left in the game. Also, what a catch (the television tape showed he had one foot in) to a receiver who was covered like a blanket. However, Scott County made it to the finals and will be tough to beat.
  23. I think Justin Burke has been properly coached to throw the ball away if he doesn't have a play. Therefore, his completion percentage is a bit lower than otherwise, but the Lexington Catholic's offensive efficiency is better. I am very impressed with what Bob Sphire and Justin Burke are able to produce at Lexington Catholic. If they only had a strong defense..............PJS in December?
