Early high school. The kids I umpired were mostly freshman and 8th graders. A lot played for the HS. I saw it at younger levels too, but I thought it was more significant at that age level. Regardless of the age a coach/manager needs to not let it occur.

Never in my life have I seen players yelling at the opposing teams' hitters. I saw it all the time this year and I couldn't believe coaches allowed it. Also, as an umpire hearing the infield yell, "batter, batter, batter" gets real old. IMO it's bush and kids doing it is absurd.

I would also tack on the "Shawn Alexander went there" and they still couldn't win it arguement.

The year they had Alexander they should have won it, but apparently they hadn't been informed of the forward pass rule.

Other than the grass who cares about the football field. The bleachers were the nicest around, the parking is the best around, and the food is close and good. Does a scoreboard and a name really mean anything to anyone? Have they ever resodded the field? I am not saying anything negative about Joe Roberts. What I am saying is that Dixie, Conner, SK, Ryle, and BC seem to be fine with a high school AD. In Kenton County we have elementary basketball and that's new. There is no district AD. There are a lot of people working together to make it work, but if anyone should be held responsible it's the board and central office people who have found the money to pay people for there efforts. Kenton will also be adding sports.

I don't have "ties" as you would assume(other than going there). I know that Jolson gave the chorus about 10k one year and the football team's field and practice field didn't have grass on it. You are acting like I was attacking Roberts and I really wasn't. Also, I know that both AD's in the late 90's (Mohr and Bandkamper) attempted to get the football field sodded and Jolson denied it. It didn't have grass because at the time the band, soccer (JV Boys and girls), red devils, middle school, freshman, jv, and varsity football all used the field. The AD's and almost all the coaches would talk about it and Jolson wouldn't alocate the funds.

Similiar districts are successful without the position. Thanks for answering my question though. Maybe he should have been the HS AD and they could have not rehired Jones.

Pendleton has an AD on a 100 day contract. So does CCHS. I am guessing that a full time AD at CCHS could fulfill the duties of the district AD and the HS AD. However, Jones is in "retirement" so he can't work a full schedule. This isn't a knock on Joe Roberts by any means because Joe seemed like a great guy every time I came in contact with him, but I don't think his job was necessary and I don't think CCHS will keep the position around.

I am pretty sure Carver will not be coaching at Brossart this year.

Got awful quiet when I asked this. So Joe Roberts did a great job, yet none of his supporters know what his job was. Also, he left on his own he wasn't fired.

Jones works 100 days and is already drawing retirement I believe. You missed my point about the job being easy. What is the job? Answer that please. What exactly does a district AD do because coaches schedule, he delegated attending athletic events, and I can't think of what he could have been doing that could have been remotely hard.

I would too, but they are below several people who can prevent them from doing a lot of things.

So Kenton, Boone, etc. etc. etc. are going to "model" Campbell County's AD plan of the future???????????? Riiiiiiight....... I'm not sure what Joe's job was. I like Joe and thought he was a nice guy but he had one of the easiest AD positions possible didn't he??????? In CC they had a high school AD, a middle school AD, and Joe was the district AD. He was able to delegate games out to administators (never heard of that before), and what exactly did he do? He didn't fund that football field work and there have been people trying to get that done for years with little to no help from the administation above. I would say Strong (who would have had to OK the funding and actually attends the sporting events) had more to do with that than anyone.

They haven't posted the position. Most districts do not have a district AD and I am hearing he won't be replaced at all.

That's not a hard call to make and that would effect the runners. A lot of umpires are lenient (because of inconsistency across leagues) with certain things.

Is Simms getting the job? I was talking to someone last night that didn't seem to think so.

I am also about 100 percent sure that won't happen. There is zero reason to stay there if you are Bill Walker.

PC had a tough team in 97' when TJ's brother, Dave, blew out his knee while scoring 53 points. They also lost Josh Chaplin who was about 6'5" that year to a knee injury and he was there 6 or 7 man.

Biggs came from outside. Reitz (CCHS) was there 2 weeks and left before him. Toim Appleman was there 2 years prior to that and he was hired from the inside. Before him was Lee Kendall from Harrison County and I believe Willie Feldhaus was before him. Chad Simms makes the second hire from inside the school district in the last 20 years or so. I may have missed someone.
