Having coached with both Clay Clevenger and Shadon Brown, either would be a great hire. Both are bright, energetic, and very well disciplined. Good football minds in both cases.

I would venture to guess Jarred Barton, with a very talented rising 8th grader behind him as a freshman.

Williamsburg has rising senior Ryan Moses back at the helm. By season's end he will shatter all school records and give chase to a few state wide records as well. A fine QB, and better yet a good person. Also 4.0 or better in the classroom.

In Southeast Kentucky look for Dusty Brown to have a big year for Williamsburg.

If WC pitches Clifford against the Hounds you may see a WC - SL match up.

Very true. Though not a fan of Whitley I have been very impressed with their grit, discipline, and determination. If he's not the district coach of the year then pigs fly.

If Clifton is pitching for Whitley they will be tough, but Bell is so well rounded, I'd give them a very slight edge.

After seeing both play I'd give the edge to Bell.

Don't know, and am not a South fan, but their staff is pretty impressive as it is.

6 straight hard hit balls may not be hindsight. It was tough to see him pitch his guts out and end up with a loss.

The Jackets continued to struggle against Knox. Barton pitched well for 5 and 1/3 innings but may have been left in too long as the Jackets lost a 3 - 0 lead in the 6th. This was a tough one to lose for the Burg as they may have played their best defensive game of the season, but 3 mental mistakes on offense killed them. The move of Andrew Root to catcher, on what now appears to be a full time basis, has really solidified the defense. J.P. Payne is turning out to be a very nice middle infielder as well. Root and Teague seem to be carrying the offense right now, Root drove in a couple and was on 3 out of 4 at bats. Williamsburg really needs some other bats to come alive. No easy ones in sight though as they play Bell tonight.

South -1 Whitley - 2 Corbin - 3 Williamsburg - 4

Martin is getting healthy for South and looks really good. Rakestraw gives them a nice 1-2 punch. South hacks well and they also have a very nice running game. Clifton for Whitley is tough as nails, but I don't think the rest of the staff is capable of shutting South down. I think the colonels will make it interesting, but after watching South I just think this is their year. I predicted Whitley would split with Corbin, but I think I'll have to pick South to sweep here, although I'd love to see Whitley at least split.

Called the split on this series. Clifford is tough and will give the Colonels a shot anytime he is on the mound. Could not have called Whitley scoring 16 runs. Wow.

If Middlesboro gets runners on their running game will be tough to stop. Quite a bit of team speed here. Also they crush the fastball, but struggle some with off speed stuff. Not knowing alot about Raceland I'll guess here and take Middlesboro in a close one.

I look for a split here. Clifford will be tough for the Colonels, but after that I'd take South. Should be a good series.

McCreary is very well coached and much improved. Should be a fun game to watch, but I reckon I would go with Corbin on this one.

I was impressed with Whitley when they played Williamsburg. Any game the Clifford kid pitches will be tough for Whitley's opponents. But as far as regular season seeding goes I still see it South 1, Corbin 2, Whitley 3, and Williamsburg 4. Year in and year out I enjoy watching South and Corbin play, they both play solid fundamental baseball and are very well disciplined. I think you are beginning to see more of that out of Whitley, and I was impressed with Ledington's coaching. As far as Corbin being better than South, who knows...but South has to have the edge, they went 2-0.

Stated I was impressed with Middlesboro, and my comments had nothing to do with the lack of hustle or the errors taking away from that. Williamsburg is one of the smallest schools in the state, HS enrollment is only around 220.

Williamsburg has some kids that are decent players. With that being said, they are very undisciplined (players not running out fly balls, loafing on dropped third strikes for just 2 examples), do not play as a team, and do not execute very well on offense or defense ( errors, mental mistakes, inability to move runners). I don't understand the lack of hustle on a few players part. I wonder why this is acceptable. I'm not the coach, but when I have coached you either busted your hump or sat down. I could get really hyper critical of a number of things I've seen this year but I won't in this forum. Suffice it to say Williamsburg is very dissappointing thus far, and the same old excuses of being a small school are getiing old. Size has nothing to do with hustle, effort, and discipline. If they were to lose every game, but would play with those attributes it would be a sucessful year. I was very impressed with Middlesboro's play as a team. They appear to be very well coached.

At Williamsburg and I'm pretty sure Barton will be pitching.
