All "A" Sectional: Middlesboro vs Raceland (Predictions)

Featured Replies

Who wins this game?

This game will take place at Middlesboro sometime this week.

I know nothing about Raceland other than they have played a pretty solid schedule up to this point. Can anyone close to the team tell me about any stud pitchers that might be thrown?

I have only seen Middlesboro once and that was down at Williamsburg when they were knocking the cover off the ball. I have heard they are somewhat streaky with their bats. I do know that their stud pitcher (Brett Pittman) has been out a couple of games with a strained quad but have heard that he will be back this week. Don't know if there is any truth to that or not. However, if he healthy, I'm sure he will be throwing in this game. He throws at about 85-87 with a pretty good change and an average curve.

Raceland has been playing much better since returning from Florida. They beat Russell yesterday 8-6. Josh Wilson is the ace of the staff and second baseman John Scott Carver was 9-9 Saturday with 2 HR's, 3 doubles.

I don't know much about Middlesboro.

Raceland has played a strong schedule, and has done pretty well so far, they have fallen short a few times in games that could have went either way.

Wilson is a very good picture, Barr, Huffman, Reid, and Carver seem to be playing pretty well.

How hard does Wilson throw you think?

I honestly don't know. I don't even know if he has ever been clocked.

The winner meets Murray at the state tournament. Murray ripped Russellville 11-1 on Saturday.

It will probably take me a week to decide who I think will win. Something a buddy of mine reminded me of is that Middlesboro plays Bell County early in the week with district seeding on the line. Sadly, who they decide to pitch and for how long in that series could have a big factor on the outcome of the Middlesboro vs Raceland game. Does Raceland have any big games before Friday?

Russell, district game, I don't know if it is a seeding game or not.

Boyd County, not a district game.

He will not overpower you. He is a southpaw with pinpoint control. He hits his target and will work you inside and out, up high in the strike zone and then come at the knees. I am like Ram, I am not sure if he has been clocked, but he definitely can pitch in the big games. He threw a complete game 2 hitter against Boyd County to open the season and lost 1-0. I like Raceland's chances when he is on the mound, no matter the opponent.

I'd guess that Wilson throws low to mid 80's. Nice change up and real good curve.

That's a pretty good guess.

Middlesboro also has a good lefty. I remember him coming in against us in the Regional Semi-finals two years ago as a freshman and pitched very well. I also saw him pitch against Williamsburg in the All "A" last week and while he didn't look 100% sharp, he had some good stuff. Very good change but not so good curve.

Has this games day and time been set yet??

It says on KHSAA that they will play Friday night at 8:00 at Middlesboro. I guess it is a long drive for Raceland to get down there.
