The offense was anemic. The line play never got on track. And Ironton wasn't all that great either. But tonite they did what it took to get the win. Their major weapon was a brute fullback #36. He reminded me of "The Bus" at Pittsburgh. Ashland had no answer for stopping him up the middle.

Well, Coach Hart said so. He's hoping they can get fired up for another local rival. Maybe it will work. Maybe it won't.

Jeepman, you had a strong sense that they would beat this Ironton team. The offense just can't get anything going.

Russell could be just what this team needs. I don't think they can roll into the "Hank" without getting the adrenaline flowing. Sometimes a good rivalry game can flip the switch. I can't wait to get it underway. :fire:

Dickie has not had very kind words for the Tomcats tonite. He calls a spade a spade.

Ashland is just not very good this year. Russell will roll through this team with reckless abandon.

"If it ain't broke - don't fix it".... This year's Ironton team is a testament to how fast a program can fall when coaching/player/position decisions become political. Make no mistake, Lutz will fix the problem. But it may take him until midseason next year to get it back on a solid foundation.

Nice piece on Mickey Brown's comeback this year from his motorcycle injury in today's Daily Independent. Brown has always been a "headhunter" on defense for the Devils. It's good to have him back on the field.

Ironton's a mess this year. I think Ashland stands a good chance of beating them. That being said, Lutz will be on the sideline for the tigers and that can almost trump any other factor. Ironton 17 Ashland 13

The County has never really healed from all the turmoil that consolidation brought. The biggest problem with the varsity team is that there is a less than effective feeder system in place. Every great program has a great junior football league. At some point the Lewis Co jfl program has to come together and get on the same page for the future of the varsity program. JMO

Greenup Co athletics continues to have more drama than an afternoon soap opera. There are a multitude of internal issues that are distracting the football program during a season when they really should have been a much improved team. I wish it were different for some of these kids that are playing and trying to compete. There's a proud football tradition down there. I for one would like to see them get back on track. Unfortunately, it's probably not going to happen this season though. It's looking like a another one win season for the Musketeers. (South Point)

Regardless of which team walks off the field with a win this Friday at Putnam, one of these traditional football powers will leave with a record of 0-3. I would have never predicted that for either program. I'm not sure about Ironton's remaining schedule, but Ashland has no daylight until the 12th of Oct. and the Greenup game. They face Russell at Russell, Mont. Co., Boyd Co. at BC and Woodford Co. on the road. That's a tall test for any team, much less one that is struggling to get their first "W" in the column. Coach Hart and this young team will certainly be tested these next few weeks. It will be interesting to see who steps up. Best of luck to the Tomcats except for that Friday night visit to the "Hank". :thumb:

Oldrambler, I think you've had one too many cups of Tomcat koolaid. It sounded very much to me as though Coach Hart will be starting from square one with his offense. Didn't he ditch Thomas and play the soph QB in the 2nd half? I agree that both Raceland and Pikeville are quality 1A representatives, but for Ashland to have any kind of season they have to put a team on the field that can execute. JMO

Congrats Devils! We miscued early with the big late hit penalties. I think both calls were legit though and Morris will use film to make his point on control of emotion. Ivan was really upset after the second late hit. I was impressed with the BC QB as he made a lot of plays all over the field. I felt like Tyler really stepped up and lead the team in the second half. Bates and Abrams both made some good cuts for yardage. It was good to get this one under our belt. We need a West Carter game to sharpen our execution.

I wonder where the Tomcats will rank in this week's "Super Seven"??? :sssh:
