  1. My favorite quote on this subject: Homophobia is the fear that gay men will treat straight men the way straight men treat women.
  2. Or hope they can land the most versatile player alive and build a team around him that largely ignores the idea of set positions.
  3. Please clarify: if the Tsarnaevs hadn't bombed the Boston marathon, would that still be true?
  4. When the author says "including the suspected terrorists and their parents," is that taken to mean "including but not limited to" or just the named parties? Not mentioned in your link but listed in other outlets' releases is Medicaid, which is likely to be a fairly sizable chunk of the money. In any case, an incredible bonanza of $2,500 (value, not actual dollars) per person per year. To be clear, it's the characterization of that amount as some sort of pirate's chest of treasure that I find eye-roll inducing.
  5. Getslow is correct, firearms are specifically and thoroughly excluded from the WMD charge. There's no way it could have ever become law without painstakingly ensuring that it could never be applied to a gun.
  6. The most important takeaway from this is I am reminded that I haven't been to Malone's in a while.
  7. No, because he's not a TE. I don't think he's an NFL QB, but he's certainly not an NFL caliber athlete when you take QB off the table. He was right not to change position because it would have been career suicide... and possibly what the Jets wanted. Count me among those that think NY did Tebow dirty, and I'm no great fan of his. He absolutely should go to Canada and show what he can do on that wider field. It's his only chance to get a look at this point.
  8. Not sure how you can say it's not a big deal, when we have ZERO active players in the NFL, MLB, NHL or NBA that are out until this point. You can't say there are no gay players in pro-sports, because there have been several players come out once they retired-- that clearly indicates a pressure of some kind to hide it. For other celebrities, it isn't really a big deal any more. The stigma for your Neil Patrick Harris or Cooper Anderson is mostly gone, but that's only because others had to risk their careers to be out, and some had their hand forced by blackmail or tabloids. And if you think that these athletes and celebrites coming out doesn't matter, tell that to some frightened and bullied queer kid who could really use someone to look up to and is maybe trying to find the courage not to hide who he is from his friends and family.
  9. The thread says 2014. Maui for this season will be in 2013.
  10. Well, considering they will lose 8 or 9 of their top 10 players after this season, I can't really blame him.
  11. The Feds are going nail Farmer's mustache to the wall. Just for the record.
  12. So that's exactly my point. I can understand that UK fans don't throw flowers at his feet anymore, but I don't get the ones tossing bombs at him.
  13. I think it has affected how he's viewed by all UK fans, not just some. That doesn't mean they all view him negatively, but can you really say there are any that view him in the completely same light in May of 1997 as today?
  14. I can understand UK fans' feelings toward Pitino being tempered by his taking the Louisville job, but I don't get the outright hate, considering what he did for UK. If Denny Crum had left after 1986 and been hired at Kentucky in 1990, he probably wouldn't have a court named after him... but he would still be honored for what he did for the school and there wouldn't be the same vitriol that Kentucky fans have for Pitino. I mean, he only saved the program and restored its winning tradition. NBD.:idunno:
  15. Because it comes up in press conferences constantly? So he has said it, and I do believe him. How could he hate a place where he had so much success?
  16. Pitino doesn't relish the fan hatred from UK, but I would say his love of his time at Kentucky is definitely shaded somewhat because of the very hateful things that happened in his first return trip to Rupp, which apparently genuinely surprised him. But again, he doesn't relish it.
  17. Like I said, hate all you want. Doesn't change what I said. In my opinion, a Rick Pitino without an ounce of humility could never have developed Russ Smith. The man he was in 2009 would not have won this title. Last thing I'll say, and then I'm off this topic: it's a matter of degree. I'm not saying that Rick is about to take a vow of poverty and start washing the feet of the poor, but is he happier and less arrogant now than he was four years ago? Yes.
  18. Hate all you want, but Pitino is a better person having gone through the humiliation of the Sypher mess. He was embarrassed by what happened in Boston, but it wasn't nearly as big a blow to his self-image and ego. When he says that his greatest regret in life is not becoming a more humble person sooner, I think that was the catalyst. He's just a different person now.
  19. The Miranda reading does not confer new rights that you never had before they were read. They only serve to make sure you are aware of your rights under questioning.
