Coach OHearn has been coaching for four years at Mason County and has been to Rupp twice and lost in finals of the Region once. This seem pretty impressive to me. I wonder how this compares with other Royal coaches first four years. Anybody know what records of other coaches were?

Homeplate, let me echo what you say about Ryan. I have watched Ryanthe last two years and nobody works harder than he. Sure glad to see him find his stroke at the right time. He was shooting terrible during the year but didnt stop him from taking the shot when it was there. Gald he and coaches did not lose confidence.

Coach Ohearn along with Coach Moore, Faulkner and Butler did an absolutely marvelous job this year. The varsity played the most competitive schedule in school history and are heading to Rupp with a 25 and 4 record; JV and Frosh lost one game each. The coaches work as a team and developed this same attitude among the players.These coaches teach tough, hardnosed defense, bolstered by a team approach offensively and most importantly are teachers and role models for these young men. I dont know what is meant by "getting people off of Ohearn in town," but in my mind he and other coaches deserve nothing but praise for a job well done and not finished yet. GO ROYALS!!!

Under Coach Ohearn direction the Royals have won 100 games and lost 25 and this year played the most competitive schedule in Mason County history. The Royals clearly know how to win. I totally disagre with the idea the O'Hearn system does not include effective half court sets. It does. The Royals offense (as all quality teams do) starts with defense and hustle. We were outhustled tonight andshots didnt fall. The lost tonight was not the result of a lack of half court offense. Tonight the Royals lost to a very good Bryan Station team andthere is nothing to hang your head about. The real season starts nextd week and if the Royals implement the O'Hearn system, playing solid team defense, hustle, play hard each and every play and have fun the Royals will be just fine. Have fun Royals and relish the ride.

Papa mentioned something in this post that I believe is at the core of the Royals success. This is Mason County's defense. It is a tribute to Coaches O'Hearn, Moore, Faulkner and Butler that at each level the play is the same...hard nosed, disciplined team presssure with energy, strength, hustle and teamwork. This is what fuels the Royals. OHearn won his 100th game Saturday and is something like 100 and 24 in his four year tenure. The Varsity lost three games with one regular season game to go, JV one and the Frosh one An amazing record and even more outstanding when considering the Royals varsity played the most competitive schedule in school history. Of course you cant win games without dedicated, talented young men (being long, tall and strong helps) willing to buy into the O'Hearn system and the Royals have done that. Congratulations on a great year Royals and I hope there is more to come.Go Royals!!!

You are correct the Royals had better not look past the Saints or anybody else for that matter. Upsets happen and that is why the game is played anything can happen especially in a high school game.

Posted this before I was able to read the other comments about seeding. I now understand why there is no seeding in the District.

Seeding couldnt have been worse for the Saints. I wonder which schools favor seeding and whiich ones dont. I dont imagine it matters to Mason. St Pat's has had an excellent year and a shame this draw came out the way it did. Chris Owen and Nick Anderson have had stellar careers. From what I hear both Chris and Nick will continue to play ball at the next level and that is great indeed. they are very good players and even better people and hope the future will be bright for both

Downing does make a difference to the Royals. I thought Darius was guarding Stenzel much of the time. Darius who is arguably the best defender in the state should be able to handle the freshman Stenzel. Stenzel is a player who is simply outstanding and will be a force in the years to come. Setty hit some big shots tonight and although Middleton didn't score was a factor in other ways. All in all a very nice win for the Royals who are playing maybe their best ball of the year at the right time. GRC is a very good team and will have to be reckoned with in the postseason as will Montgomery.

Might depend upon whether Downing plays or not. Mason much better with him but I look for a close game to be decided by 5 or fewer points. Mason should be able to pull out a win against a fine GRC team

Being lucky and good is true this time but will need some rebounding as well next time if there is a next time with a very, very good Montgomery team.

Downing makes a big difference to the Royals. Montgomery has a tough team and MC fortunate to come away with a win. Pawsat showed he can play with the upperclassman as a freshman, Trevor Setty was only Royal rebounded seemed like at time. Teams are going to double and triple team Darius and other Royals have to step up. Russ Middleon nice game. Regional tourney will be a battle for the Royals.

Downing is a major cog in the Royal scheme with his aggressiveness, defense, passing, intelligent play and doing other positive things often unnoticed. In some ways I think he is the key to Royals success especially in close games. If downing doesnt play obviously others will have to step up, hamms, tolle and the freshmen. If Downing can go full speed, Royals by 10 or so; if he cant game is a tossup.

Any team would be proud and fortunate to have Jackson playing for them if he never made a free throw. the facts are he shoots free throws well. He gives his all every minute on the floor and is a true team player.Congrats Jackson on earning a football scholarship to Georgetow

Tough loss for the Saints who are playing so well this year. May have run out of gas a bit in the fourth but gave it their best effort. Nothing to hang their heads about but keep on getting better and enjoy the ride. The Saints are fun to watch as they always play hard and give their best. This is all anyone can ask.

Setty is a competitive, hardworking team player and a very polite nice young man to boot. Nothing wrong with him. Sometimes the shots dont go in but there are other facets of the game and Setty plays the entire games all the time. I also hear that one of the military colleges is looking very seriously at Setty as are couple of mid level Tennesse colleges. Setty and the Royals had an off night against HC. I expect they will get back on track. They have some tough games coming up before tournament so had better be ready.
