Any updates on this one? I know they have formed the committee but with the Vikings making it to the region, I don't know if they will wait or try and get someone in time for springball.

I heard he met with the committe yesterday and should announce it today. I agree, they did keep it quiet. I wish him and the Lions the best.

If he just wants to play one sport, then why is spring football an issue? I know baseball coaches that have months of evaluation before practice actually starts.

So the schools that start baseball "conditioning and open field" / (without instruction of course) in October is fine? I am not siding with one or the other. Coaches that work together find ways for each athlete to play any sport they choose to play. The "kids" have 4 years that they can NEVER get back so why deprive them of playing a sport they wish to play. Let them enjoy their high school career and if they are an athlete they will be seen in the sport that they excel in.

I believe Bryan Dean of Letcher will be one of the top coaches in the state. He has done a great job at every school he has been at and with the support he will prove himself worthy of being one of the tops.

They will be returning the core of the team but they will be mostly juniors. Billy Bowman (sr), good bat, good glove; then the rest (jrs)have started since the 7th grade; John Mark Yieser quick, good SS, good bat and pitches some. Marty Jones, probably strongest pitcher on team, big bat, plays 3rd and some 1st, Josh Estes-Waugh-catcher, good bat, pitches. Jared Robin-lefty pitcher-1st base. They have some sound players but what they do with it will be the question.

I sure wouldn't play for that. It would have to be a large sum before I'd get in a situation like that.

If I'm not mistaken, Coach Dahlstrom got $0.00 for the football budget. Everything that he purchased had to be raised and I believe a large part of that came from games like Scott Co. I am not sure how much Rockcastle is paying but if they raised $5,000.00+ on one game it may have been the only opportunity to have the money to purchase what was needed. I agree they need to find teams in the same situation and build upon that but sometimes you must do what you must do in order to survive.

I believe this job would be a great opportunity. The one that gets it will have one year out of district to implement their philosophy, schemes, etc before heading into district play in 2007. Does anyone know what district they will be in? I know with the new additions to classes that this may change a few things. Will they have someone in place before spring ball? Any names? Are they keeping everything hushed? Any information at all?

It is my understanding that if a certified person applied they must get the job over a non-certified person. The way the by-law reads the only way a non-certified person can be hired for extra-curricular positions over a certified is when 1) there are no certified positions open and 2) if no certified person applies. Does anyone know the exacts on this by-law? I heard he brought in 5-6 of his own assistants but I've heard no names.

We played our championship game at EKU ('73) I know we tore the field up sinc it was raining but it was a more central location.

I heard that Rick Massie will be the coach there. Just the rumor mill until they actually do something. I agree, under the present conditions, I do not know how would want or take it unless it is someone already in the system. Still I would have to think a LONG time before taking on this challenge unless they are willing to change some things.

Great FCA coaches clinic today. Coach Bill Tom Ross, Ray Graham, John Schlarman, Tom Sullivan (BFS) & JB Donahue all did a great job. I'm sure I have forgotten someone and I apologize up front. And as always Coach David Buchanan and Steele Harmon ran and organized an excellent clinic. Hats off to all involved. It was a great opportunity to share football and to Glorify the Lord with some of the best people and coaches in this profession.

I was told they told the players yesterday and they are meeting with the parents later this week. Not sure on a press conference.

Some schools it's voluntary--some basketball coaches will make it madatory. Some Football coaches do as well and some baseball coaches do as well, Everyone is right in that "ALL" coaches must work together and allow these young men to play the sport in season. I know the schools I've been involved with the baseball team, basketball team, track and football all used the facilities and worked out the times and dates. It can work.

I disagree. Basketball has "open gym", baseball has "open" field" but let a few guys wih footballs have "open field" and it hits the fan. I agree every kid should play as many sports as possible and I do not have a problem with the baseball players missing spring ball because it is basbeall season but when you try and limit the 10 days football gets in the spring is where I see a problem. I agree--let them play baseball during baseball season and basketball during basketball season but do not tell the players that if they don't play summer basketball (they would miss "official" football practice) then they can't play that season. I have a problem with that big time.
