  1. Curious HOW Manual could possibly compete with the private schools, especially in those "Country Club Sports" like swimming, volleyball, soccer, etc.??
  2. The diocese sets up "districts" and designates "feeder parishes/elementary schools" to those districts, which the diocese EXPECTS the HS's to follow. Obviously they don't, and you are right, there is a slight upcharge in tuition for out of district students. Explain to me how you realisticly recruit students and not athletes, since they obviously are one in the same??
  3. As small geographicly as NKY is, and with a much larger concentration of HS's than the rest of the state; I doubt it's even a majority, much less a VAST majority up here!!
  4. So in your world, it's fine for a kid to live outside a district and pay tuition to go to a public school (or would that only apply in Ludlow?), but not to a private school?? That makes perfect sense!!
  5. How many kids in the state live within 5 miles of their high school??
  6. From what I've seen, the Diocese rules are anything but "very strict"; concerning enforcing kids staying within their feeder school boundries, when moving from elementary to high school!!
  7. Would your "clearly defined districts" also apply to the so-called "City" schools, like Beechwood and Highlands here in NKY??
  8. And this never happens at NKY public schools?? Look at the rosters of any school's freshmen teams, especially in the "minor" sports. By the way, name the middle school(s) for any NKY private school?? Just another unfounded slam at private schools!!
  9. In the case of Bishop Brossart, they wish they were able to GET all the kids from their natural feeder schools, and NOT be subjected to the "encouragement to attend other schools" of their kids by other private and public schools!! They do lose kids from their feeders to other area schools for reasons of no football and $$$$'s. Unfortunately, playing by the rules hurts sometimes!!
  10. My facts are fine!! In your haste to defend the KHSAA, you may want to actually read my post?? I said "keep THE political agendas", not THEIR!! Please don't tell me that 24 other similar cases are immediately ruled OK to play, but this one drags out for a couple weeks; and somebody's not playing to somebody??
  11. Another interesting obsevation by the CJ?? The reason the privates are complaining is that they are in the gym, trying to get better!!
  12. At least they got it right FINALLY, albiet a little late; and I'm sure after putting the kid through additional grief that he certainly didn't need. Shame on them--They need to keep the political agendas out of their rulings!!
  13. Wow--You mean not all public schools are alike?? Maybe this will "light the bulb" for some others on here, that the vast majority of the privates don't share the advantages of the very large privates either!!
  14. I've not heard mine mentioned, and I'm glad!! Mine happens to be one of those NKY 4-A schools that was down for years, but decided to "work harder" both on the field and in the community; and has turned their programs around into legitimate contenders in multiple sports!!
  15. As one of the "private supporters" you refer to, I've got no problem with your argument about the numbers advantage X & Trinity have; and in fact have explained on multiple threads that is the problem no one knows quite how to deal with? Simply not enough very large schools in the state. However, explain to me how you in fairness want to ban ALL PRIVATES, due to the fact those two have grown bigger than the rest of the field. (PS: They must be doing something right, as appx. 1500 families are willing to pay $7000+/year to send their kids there) Please explain????
  16. Many reasons have been very eloquently given on these forums, so I won't try to rehash them all. IMO a simple reason not to is numbers. There are 46 total private schools in the state, the vast majority of who play by the rules, use homegrown athletes and aren't much threat to win many state titles, certainly not in football!! If this thing were to pass, who exactly would you like them to play?? The very large schools will morph into regional powers and become stronger than ever; taking even more of the best athletes form the very schools who banned them!! The problem, again IMO, is the smaller privates and the future of their programs. For example, who will NCC and Holy Cross in NKY play in football; nine games against each other (and that's after Highlands, Cov Cath and Beechwood get done carving up their talent)?? Simply put, ban the privates; and create your own monster!! The large regionals will attract ALL the great athletes, now that they can openly offer financial assistance; and will be replaced in the so-called public league with a new handful of "have's", and the same "well meaning administrators" will be back looking to ban them within a couple of years!!
  17. HDE--What program that's losing state championships to the likes of X & Trinity, or other private schools, has a student population without enough money for food?? I'll agree there are high schools with quite poor students, but I doubt they are worrying about competing for state championships, and trying to get their private competitors banned!!
  18. I certainly do understand your points, especially how poor some of these communities are. Wouldn't argue your points on the fact a lot of schools, public and private, have big advantages on others when it comes to alumni/parent/community involvement. My point however, is the majority of the 46 private schools the KHSAA is seeking to ban, especially the smaller Catholic schools, are not sitting around having meetings on how to spend their excess millions; but rather are arguably doing significantly more with far less resource-wise that their public counterparts!!
  19. Wow--How did I miss this post along the way!! Right on the money, especially the last statement!!
  20. The average (note I said average) private school does not come close to having these unlimited funds everyone keeps referencing, and in fact is constantly fighting the budget battle, without the supposed benefactors. They are working for the most part out of out dated facilities and with less than current equipment. They work out of computer "labs" where the students share PC's, instead of most public schools, who boast more computer equipment than IBM!! Just answering a mis-statement, I've seen repeated on here so often I want to barf!! Relating to the topic of this thread, this is not a real or unavoidable advantage for the publics/privates, as if you try hard enough, enough money can be raised. And by the way, no parent or alumni has more money than the public schools' Ole' Uncle Sam!!
  21. If I'm not mistaken they (KHSAA) have been "ruling" on this for a couple of weeks, while those in the parish/school community have been trying to help raise tuition money. Hardly a case of HC lurking around the Bayous looking for players!!
  22. And yet another advantage the public schools have over the private schools, as if tax $'s, free education, better facilities, etc. weren't enough!!
