  1. I want to say there's 40-45 total Privates in KY. Obviously most are small, non-football schools.
  2. Sure seems like the Independents have an unusual amount of success when I come from, especially in football!! You might want to check the posts on the previous page or two, by some of your Ashland area brethern aluding to the same fact in your area??
  3. That frequently accept (and encourage) out of "CITY" and even "COUNTY" transfers, and tuition paying students; especially if they happen to be good athletes!! You ought to try getting informed!!
  4. I stand corrected stat guy!! Still not quite a small little program who just happened to get one good player and win a state championship, like was suggested!! A proven program with a rich history--I stand by my point!!
  5. Just going with the programs I know. I'm sure if you look at any of the other successful public programs you'll find similar numbers. You'll probably also find the same schools in the playoffs for the most part each year--public and private!!
  6. Good points, but most of our programs aspire to play the better (and normally much larger) competition; in an effort to get better, and it seems to be working. There are classes in many sports, and the All "A" in several for the smaller schools.
  7. I'm glad you can read my "posture"?? I was actually just trying to understand what you were trying to say. Thanks for clarifying. Not sure what can be read into the Privates having a over-500 record in the playoffs, especially given that Trinity and X are part of the equation, being by far the largest schools in the state. Since you're a stat guy, look up Beechwood and Highlands record in the playoffs. I'm guessing 80-90 % wins!! I believe BW is 8-3 in the finals alone, and obviously had to win a lot of games to get there. My "point" if you're wondering is, I think you'll find most successful programs have pretty good playoff records; regardless of their private of public status!! That would be why they are "successful programs"!!
  8. Agreed, but you've got to admit it's a little easier to get a good team from 1500 vs. 200? Don't forget the larger schools can allow kids to "specialize" in their sport as well. I primarilly support a smaller school with about 200 boys in 9-12; and most all of our top athletes play 2-3 sports. Tough to devote the time to be the absolute best in any given sport without training year-round!! Personally I think it's great for the kid however, to experience multiple sports; since few are going to even the next level. Enjoy HS sports as much as you can!!
  9. So what are Highlands, Beechwood, Danville, Boyle and the other public powerhouses records in the playoffs? I'm not sure of your point, other than to say the private schools do well when the reach the playoffs??
  10. You mean AAA Mason County, closing in on AAAA; with the biggest venue in the state?? Great example?? Hint--Try using the old Rose Hill with Mayo & Co. or UHA!!
  11. So you're saying that it's no problem getting those 7-8 players from a school of say--150-200 boys vs. a Trinity or X with 1500 boys???? Please remove head from sand!!
  12. I believe they are officially referred to as "Independent City School Systems"--Please refer to them accordingly when you attempt to ban them!! Eventually if some of you guys can get the field down to only a couple teams per region, you can assure yourselves a trophy every year!!!! Wouldn't that make you proud????
  13. I think your argument holds some water in Lexington and Owensboro; but not in Louisville and NKY. X and Trinity are simply bigger than the rest of AAAA and have built first class programs as well. In NKY, while both NCC and CCH are fine athletic programs, it has little to do with being the only private schools in their area. There are I believe 8 Catholic and one other private high schools in NKY, and many compete very well with NCC and CCH in most sports. Further, while CCH in AAA and NCC in A have very successful football programs, they are not even the best programs in their own area; as that would be Highlands and Beechwood--Both public schools??
  14. So the private schools are to blame for Williamsburg's lack of participation??
  15. Good luck trying to stop this type of activity!! However, it is safe to say this happens at all institutions, not just public, private or independents.
  16. I had heard that if it were the finals last night, he could have played; but they felt they could give him another week, and still control the line of scrimmage, which obviously was the fact. Look for him to go next week!!
  17. Kiernan will play next week. I think they realized they could give him the night off to heal, and still have a pretty good advantage on the lines. Congrats to both teams on great seasons, and bring it home for NKY 'Breds!!
  18. Having followed this "Public vs. Private" argument for many years, and having heard valid arguments on BOTH sides; it's starting to remind me more & more of our Federal Government!! Can't make the existing law work, let's create a new one that won't work either!! We've heard various settlements offered such as: 1. Separate the publics and privates for playoffs only. 2. Separate the publics and privates totally. 3. Ban all private schools. 4. Ban private and independent schools. 5. Ban privates, independents and open enrollment schools. 6. Limit the enrollment areas of private schools. 7. Limit all schools enrollment areas. 8. Allow out-of-state players in certain border areas. 9. Ban out-of-state players in private schools. 10. Ban all out-of-state players. 11. Multiple combinations of the above!! I think anyone who looks OBJECTIVELY at this situation will realize that the outright cheaters or those who bend the rules exist at all levels--Private, Public and Independent--and likewise realize that the vast majority of schools--Private, Public and Independent--Follow those same rules and run basicly clean programs!! Simply put, if you take the emotion out of the arguments; the problems seem very simple to me!! Enforce the laws in place, and punish the offenders severely enough to discourage similar behavior by other institutions. The KHSAA has many rules on the books regarding recruiting, phoney moves, out-of-district kids, etc.--ENFORCE THEM!!!! Quit trying to create new rules, laws, by-laws, playoff structures, etc.--Simply punish those who break the rules!!!! Is this concept too rational, too obvious, make too much sense--Why is no one touting this solution??
  19. I realize he's a multi-dimensional player, but they listed him at QB. I'd say he's a better ATHLETE, but not a better QB than the above!!
  20. Wow SS, you guys have been having a spirited debate with good points on both sides. But I've got to comment here that you make it sound like the private schools (and obviously you're talking about your beloved Catholic schools in NKY); are like Harvard or something, sitting back accepting only the absolute cream of the crop--academicly and athleticly?? Given the tightness of funding, how many students do you think these schools actually turn away?? I'll give you the fact the public schools take the special needs kids, but are actually well compensated for it. But let's be realistic, for the uninitiated; at least in NKY the only real advantage the Catholic schools have is it's easier to expell a problem kid. Let's not pretend that the only kids who can make muster at the privates are the "silver spoon", "privately trained", "well funded", "perfectly behaved", specialty tuitored", etc. That's downright ridiculous!!
