There's no doubt that you've hit on something here and that will be an ongoing challenge. Obviously Brossart has had success in most sports far beyond their size and classification, so the athletes must be wandering around the halls. One problem the current team has is timing, as the Mustangs have just had two of the most athleticly gifted classes in school history graduate in '05 and '07. Had football started a few years ago those classes could have provided some serious football players!! Not to say the cupboard is bare, but certainly not as full as recent years. BB has always had a rich tradition of athletes participating in multiple sports, and good cooperation between the coaching staffs. They will as you say, need to start convincing some of these kids to include football in their schedules!! It will come, and it will help as some of the incoming younger kids may have some youth football experience. The hoops and baseball programs in particluar will need to start providing some football players, and undoubtably soccer may suffer along the way. Time will tell, but I would suspect it won't take forever; and football may soon be a popular option for Brossart athletes!!

Newport showed a lot of life last week when they had Holy Cross on the ropes, but Dayton is having a very good year; and I expect them to continue their winning ways. I won't be surprized if this is closer than predicted however.

The Beechies pulled their starters mid-first half, and played their 2nd and 3rd strings liberally for most of the last three quarters. They also scored at least 3 TD's on interceptions returned for TD's if I remember correctly. It was 69-0 at the half, so they didn't exactly push it further in the 2nd half either. As bad as it was, I'm not sure how you hold the score down short of telling your kids not to try; and nobody wins in that situation. I can only recall one of the lopsided games this year where the winning team's starters were still playing deep into the fourth quarter; so all in all teams have played it pretty straight up with the fledgling Mustangs. You've heard no complaints on here from any BB faithful about teams running up the score. Every sane fan knew it would be a long year, and that it will take a few years to start to become competitive with established programs that have long traditions and very active youth programs!! To think otherwise is just unrealistic, and once again my thanks to the current players & coaches as they pave the way for what's sure to be better times in the future!!!! :thumb:

Never been to the field, but it looks good from the X-Way. I understand they've scheduled Brossart next year, so I'm assuming I'll see it then. How old is their team? Good luck to them in their new venture.

Northern KY, about 22 miles south of Cincinnati off I-75.

Looking at the new three class track numbers BB is listed at a two year average of 404, with 34 class 1 schools larger than them all the way up to Shelby Valley at 594. Beechwood was listed significantly smaller at 318.5, but seeing the football number (boys) of 170something must have some extra boys? Probably stud football players??

I used the football numbers and estimated BB's!!

Not sure of the KHSAA's official numbers for Brossart, but the school currently is around 400 (co-ed 9-12), with a few more girls than boys. I'd guess they are in the 180-185 boys range, which would put at least ten schools ahead of them in class A, and another 4-5 in that 180 range, including Beechwood who many thought would make the move to 2A originally. Doubtful there would be enough movement to cause a boost to 2A for several years, although I'd expect them to upgrade their non-district schedule once they can field a competitive team. "Playing the best to be the best" has worked for them in their other sports!!

Absolutely no arguement that NKY overall has had better years, especially when NCC and BW were right at the top of 1A, CCH and Highlands up top in 3A, and the 4A schools closer to the Louisville powerhouses. My question was however, is the best overall football in the state being played in NKY this year?? What area, if any, is playing better overall football, top to bottom--This year??

Might have been CCH's last chance for glory until the playoffs, as their last two will be against Ohio teams including # 2 in the nation??

This may be a bit premature as there's a couple weeks left before the playoffs, but is the "overall" best football in the state being played this year in NKY?? I'm talking all classes, and across the board, not just big schools?? Obviously Trinity and X are going to dominate the top 10 in the state, along with several of their Louisville and Lexington big school brethren. When you compare the potential for several state champs, and the impressive overall ratings by some of the 6A teams; along with top 20-25 ranked 2A and 1A teams, its a pretty good story!! As I look over tonight's games and look at the various ratings, it appears this may be true. Just a few things to consider: **Teams ranked # 1 in three of the four classes where they're represented, with basically no entries in classes 3 & 4!! **Overall 5 teams in the top 25 in Cantrell and 5 in the Litkenhous top 20, despite most of them be compared to much larger schools!! **Impressive overall record versus the rest of the state!! Again, I'm thinking across the board, not just number of top 10 teams in the state; and consider for the most part there's no "middle sized" teams in NKY that haven't chosen to "play up"??

Sounds like a solid effort by the Black & Gold Tigers, but Red & White ones just too much. While they will be challenged by old "A" mates NCC in their final game, will Beechwood be tested again in the playoffs??

Good job by CCH avoiding the upset bug, especially without their starting QB. Sounds like the defense was dominating??

Did SK ever get Ponzer involved in the offense at all? It sounded like either the Camels took him away, or SK forgot one of their most important weapons? Looks like the road downstate will go through Boone this year--Not an easy road, although Ryle almost pulled out the upset tonight!!

I don't think this scenerio is at all uncommon, as most of the bigger publics have one or two large feeder middle schools? Up here in NKY that's pretty much the case, and even though the Catholic schools may have multiple feeders, they are mostly rather small (and are K-8 elementary schools as well) in comparison to their county brethern and also lose a lot of kids to the tuition-free public HS's. Not sure you can really "read much" into the number of middle schools feeding a high school??

Did the NCC defense score tonight, or is the "O" starting to really come together?

Guessing Ashland lost due to the lack of response and the late 3rd quarter lead by Station??

Dominating win for the Camels. How does the seeding work out in NKY 6A? I'm guessing Boone (1) and then Ryle, Campbell & SK all at 2-2.
