  1. I think it would be an interesting concept, but maybe have tourneys only, similar to what the colleges do in the fall? It could be an opportunity for schools to use the tourney concept as a fund raiser as well?? As long as coaches don't penalize multi-sport kids for not participating, or use it to pressure kids into giving up baseball/track/etc.
  2. Good work by both GT and 'Ru--Throughly enjoyed the show! Very good knowledge of the area teams and their downstate competition--Love to hear more of the same as the season goes on? Are you guys planning a similar show for hoops when that season comes along? I'm sure there'd be lots of interest!!
  3. Wow--Get a map out?? At least the Fieldhouse is a little more centrally located and is a tremendous environment for HS hoops!! I'm still OK with keeping it there, as its a huge $$$$ producer and a great experience; unless of course the region were to decide to permanently put the tourney at a neutral location--like NKU's new arena??
  4. I've seen both Miller and Hopson several times the last year or two, and really don't think it's close; although I'll admit I've not seen either this summer. Hopson is a very good athlete, but doesn't compare to Darius as a "basketball player" IMO!! As a Brossart fan, we've "gotten close but no cigar" against Mason repeatedly the last two years, and the difference has always been Miller!! While it's only one game, a Thomas More recruit and a golfer held Hopson to 6 points (2 in the last 3 quarters) in the All "A" semis; so either our guys need to reevaluate or Hopson is a whole lot overrated!! Looking at recent UK moves, I'd guess they'd go for Hopson; but Darius would seem to be the proven winner, a more all around player, with a great work ethic, AND a lot of upside--Here's hoping BCG looks towards Maysville and D. Miller likes what he sees!!
  5. Huumm...........The new NKU arena is large enough, in the 10th region, brand new, and a neutral site?? I'd be nice to see everyone else in the 10th burn their gas for a change!!
  6. Scott gave BB and GRC all they wanted, so it might have been more of a big 4? PC was definitely off from recent years, but was still dangerous at times (see Brossart game). Campbell and Harrison were inconsistent but had some talent, but maybe I'm giving them too much credit. Montgomery built a monster record early against an embarrassing schedule for a school their size, but faded losing 4 of their last 5. SG was very good considering they have only about 80 boys in the school, and surprised some teams. I thought Elliott and Russell were above the rest, but the region was uncharacteristically weak from there IMO last year. Agree with the schedule comments, as we know to be the best. you've got to play the best. It would really help them if they have high expectations. Other than Mason, the top teams in the 10th were devastated by graduation in '07, so this would be the year to schedule!!
  7. Definately Scott, and probably teams like Campbell County, Montgomery County, Harrison County; along with Silver Grove and Pendleton on a given night IMO. Probably hard to tell since they didn't really play much of a schedule--Seems like they played the same 6-8 teams over and over (Raceland-3 times, Russell-3 times, E. Carter-4 times, W. Carter-3 times, etc.)?? Not knocking their team as I only saw them once, but they appeared to be the best of an average lot at the end of the year? Hey, they made it to Rupp--Hats off to them!! I just expected more after reading all the hype, that's all??
  8. Good choice not to compare to the 10th last year!! I really did think the 16th was very evenly matched last year, and they seemed to take turns beating each other?? I'll expect more this year, and they should be a favorite for the All "A". Maybe beefing up the pre-tourney schedule would help??
  9. Not really because the region was pretty evenly average, and they got a dream first round draw!! They would have been mid-pack or lower in the 10th!!
  10. Actually most colleges have what amounts to two seasons--Fall is considered "non-traditional" I believe they commonly call it, and Spring is the "Traditional" season, when they play for regional titles and the NCAA's!! Many states HS seasons are in the spring as well, but you do have to battle unpredictable weather and especially rain?? Agree on the heat though, and the state tourney has been known to be COLD in early October!!
  11. Why heck--They only lost 7 of their 8 position players, and their top 3 ptichers to graduation?? :D
  12. How will they do in the All "A" this year? I was very surprized at the early exit last year to an OK Paintsville team, after all the hype I'd heard about them.
  13. Not to knock anyone, but have the guys that make these rankings ever seen these kids play?? No way Hopson is above Miller, much less this far above, at this point??
  14. Is Wehry not in the mix? Was't he the #2 last year?
  15. Worked for CovCath and NewCath last year, as both took a few on the chin early; but were ready for the playoffs??
  16. Isn't Isler the very big kid who had Tommy John surgery a year or so ago??
  17. If Mason stays healthy, this is as one sided as I've seen the region in years and years. All the recent contenders either lost a ton to graduation or are on down cycles, and the Royals are loaded--You MC fans can get your reservations in Lexington for March!! The question with Mason is not can they win the 10th region, but can they win it all again??
  18. I'm admittedly not that up on this years' kids as in years past, but it's hard to believe that Highlands, NCC and CovCath don't land on this list somewhere?? CCH in particluar has thrown the ball well the last few years, and I've heard good things about Dixie's aerial game this year!!
