Senior Leadership won the game for the Birds. I didn't realize until I read the Enquier but all the points were from Seniors. Guidugli 19, Hudepohl 12, Vories 11, Johnson 10, Smith 6. Big defense out of seniors on Kiernan. He had the Breds first 6 points and finshed the game with only 10 and he fouled out. Hudy hit the treys when the Birds needed them in the 2nd Quarter. Ben was big all night. Johnson, Smith, and Eaton all came in and made big plays on both offense and Defense. I think Johnson had at least 4 blocks. Smith had great drive from the left corner and drew the foul too to make a three point play. So glad to see this team can win big when Jeff is having an off night. Simpson played great defense on Beuter. I said going into this game the key to beating NCC was pressure on Beuter. HE is the nucleus of the team and just makes things happen. Looked like Simpson had him worn out by the third quarter. And of course it didn't help that Kevin would have to turn around and try to stay with Vories. Let's go Birds, three more games to win out at Ryle!

I think it is funny that Wight talked to the ref all night after every call and non-call. This same ref T'd up Eaton at Boone County after he called him for a foul. And for once Eaton didn't even say anything to the ref. He went to Hudy and told him they had to step up the defense and the ref thought he was talking to him and gave him a T. Now Wight questioned almost every call and never even got a warning.

How did Burkhead do as a JV/Freshman coach?

Looks like to me that both Carney and Whitey Simpson saw a lot of value in Burkhead, so I would say that would be some credentials you think Carney was the best.

Birds played hard tonight. Double digits for Vories, Guidugli, and Johnson, and 8 points for Smith, 6 for Simpson. It is going to take team scoring like this to get past NCC on Friday. Good first night of districts.

Sounds like WCHS needs to get Coach Burkhead to come back to town. Definitely couldn't get worse than this years record? But I'm sure the top brass at the board knows what is best for the program. NOT

9th Region Player and Coach of The Year
I may be partial but my vote goes to Coach Schlarman and Jeff Vories from HHS. A turn around season.

Tyler Mains commits to D-II school
Way to go Tyler - Good luck in South Carolina. You have come along way from the days when you use to drive up on Saturdays to play with the boys from Ruth Moyer and the 7th and 8th grade days when you had to carry the PMS team all by yourself. Great job and good luck the rest of your season.

Highlands vs. Bellevue District 1st round
I would hate to be the team to face the birds after 4 straight losses.

Hey now, don't forget about a win in Lexington over state ranked Bryan Station. And I think we have 18 other wins over N. KY and other in state schools. And all but two losses are to top 25 teams in ky. So give me a break.

I have said all year there is no favorite in the ninth region. So many teams have the chance to make it to Rupp this year.

Wise came in and made a difference on the boards in the first half, but didn't see much time in the second half.

I didn't take any credit away from Boone County. I just said our Birds couldn't finish the game. What do you want me to say "Way to Go BC, you kicked some butt. " I purposely didn't even mention BC, but one would have to say when you are on the line twice under a minute with a one point deficit and you miss both times and then turn the ball over with a chance to win, you gave it away. So take the comment any way you want, and don't look here for a fight.

The birds gave this one away. Two missed free throws on two straight one and one situations down only one. Down only two and they turn the ball over. A lot of easy baskets weren't falling by all the birds. Birds were without Tanner Johnson due to a mouth full of stitches from the Shelby Co. game. They have to start hitting free throws or the tourney run will not be long. Dont' give up Birds - you can still make it to Rupp.

Why so much talk about CCH on this thread, it is about Shelby County and HHS. And HHS beat Cov Cath at CCH and lost to Holy Cross in Latonia. Threes did get the birds back in the game but what difference does that make. A point is a point. They were almost back on top. In fact had Vories not lost the ball going up the middle against three SC guys, it could have been back to a tied game or HHS up by one with a three. But I guess it wasn't meant to be.

I think the Birds proved tonight they can play with anyone. Great games by Guidugli, Hudy, Eaton and Smith. Hudy, Eaton, and Guiduigli all had two or three threes each. Smith had a great first half with 8 points but saw limited time in the second half. I'm guessing Coach thought he needed the quicker guard lineup, not sure! McGraw looked good tonight as well other than a couple turnovers early in the game. Johnson struggled but went out early in the fourth quarter with a bloody mouth and didn't come back. Tanner got an early charge which seemed to take him out of the game for a while. Still think he spends too much time out on the perimiter. Vories had 20 something but didn't seem to have his A game tonight. Simpson didn't play tonight due to sickness. Went home from school sick. You know that Vories will put up close to 20 every night but IMO I think if the Birds can get Johnson, Guidugli, and either Smith, Hudy or Eaton all in double figures this team will be hard to beat. I think this and Saturday's loss will help this team come tourney time. Still don't think the Holy Cross loss will help anybody though.

What is their record and who are their losses too.

It sure looked like a lot of rabid PC fans in the midst of the big run for the bluebirds. One fan sitting almost at the top of the PC stands at midcourt ran half way down to the court to yell at the ref. I thought he was going to go on the floor had his wife (date) not stopped him. So don't tell me it was just HHS blaming the refs. And for your information I quoted on this thread PC is a good team.

Let me guess, you were sitting in the Pendleton County section

Were you watching the game, we were down by double digits and got to three, the "cheap shot" as you call it, was Tanner turning and getting tangled with Elliott. But I guess since you have all the answers you probably can tell me exactly what Tanner said too.

Yeah, I guess hitting three out of four free throws on the techincal and getting the ball back helped them deal with it, wouldn't you say! Funny how that works to get you pulled together.

I can't believe there hasn't been any mention of Tyler Mains in this this thread. I believe he was blocked three times by Mr. Johnson. Two of them in succession. And each time I seemed to see Tyler jawwing with the ref about needing a foul called. Hum, I guess it is okay for a PC guard to jaw with the ref, but not a big man from HHS. I think PC is a great team with many great basketball players it is ashame that question marks had to be put in this game by such poor officiating. And yes the calls were bad both ways, it just seemed that the Birds were hurt right when they were making a run.
